Great Fall - Looking Forward to Next Year!!

Merry Christmas Lighting Green!!!!

We look forward to seeing all of you at our Saturday night Christmas Party.  Work hard Saturday morning packing soap.  Everyone should smell really good for our party that night :)

The coaches and I want to tell you how proud we are of each of you. Lighting Green finished with .750 record in the 12A Div. this fall.  More importantly, you have worked  tremendously hard this off season and brought a very positive attitude to our off season program.

Can't wait until the '09 season starts!!!!!!!!!!!!

Way To Be Focused Lightning!!
Players, we are very impressed with the attentiveness to detail and willingness to work hard both in practice and outside of practice!!  Keep it up and exciting things are in store for you individually and most importantly for your team.  Each of you have been taped and giving specific drills to work on at home and through your progressions on Thursday evenings, make sure it's incorporated in both.  Also, remember to go over with your parents what we covered on our baserunning Sunday evening.   If you have questions, please ask, we have covered alot recently: slap hitting, bunting, coverages, baserunning techniques and hitting drills.  Over the next few weeks, we will step back and make sure we have fully grasped and our performing the above skills in practice so that when it's game time you are ready to "strike" like Lightning!!  Also, several Coaches, including the 14U coaches, have been impressed with your positive attitudes and no non-sensc approach to practice - way to go!!!!

2008-2009 Lightning Green Welcomes New Additions!

Swingbuilder Lightning Green would like to congratulate and welcome to our team:

 Maya, Cassie and Miranda!

We are very excited about adding such great athletic talent.  The commitment and quality of these players and their families will be a perfect fit with the outstanding players and families that are returning.   Lightning Green is also excited to have 6 of its original players returning from our first year together, this will be their 3rd season.  Here's to a year of continuing to learn and grow as players; a  fun filled year that is enriched by new friendships focused on the common goal of being the best team we can be!!

"Player No Brainers That Get You Beat Every Time"
We would like to thank Rick Waggener and the 14U Destruction for allowing us to borrow their idea and post it here with a few changes that fit our team.

"Player No Brainers That Get You Beat Every Time"

1. Not getting the sure out

2. Not being focused on the game!

3. Not being positive and determined – believe in yourself and your teammates!

4. Not knowing how many outs

5. Missing a signal

6. Not backing up the play

7. Not calling for a fly ball

8. Swinging with a 3-0 count

9. Getting picked off a base

10. Not sliding

11. Throwing to the wrong base or behind the advancing runner

12. Not throwing to the cutoff from the outfield

13. Not being able to get a sacrifice bunt down

14. Taking a called third strike

15. Throwing a strike with an 0-2 count on the batter

16. Not hustling all the time.

17. Not executing on a signal

18. Not hustling all the time. (hmmm this one must be important!)

19. Not “practicing” like you “play”

20. Not showing good sportsmanship!!

LIGHTNING GREEN 2007-2008 ROSTER!

Wednesday, August 22
Lightning Places 4th at AFA Nationals in Lawrence KS
2007 Nationals
Great Job Players!!!  Great defense, great intensity, great sportsmanship!!!  Parents & Coaches could not be prouder.   You have played your hearts out all year and represented the Lightning Organization in the highest manner.   Blue Springs Lightning Green’s overall 10U record was 50-15-2.  We placed in 7 tournaments winning 4 of those.  The year ended in high fashion by placing 4th at the AFA Nationals in Lawrence!!

The festivities started with some fun contests that we competed well in.  Jordan finished 2nd in the home run contest and Chelsey just missed placing in the base running contest.  All of our girls competed and represented our team with great pride.  After that pool play began where we went 2-1 to earn the 2 seed, just missing the 1seed by 1 run.  The coaches had a feeling we were playing pretty well when they told us the CO State Champs and the OK State Champs were both in our pool.  When there were 8 teams left in the tournament and 3 of those were from our group – we knew the Lightning Green was there to compete.

Pool Play Results OK Twister L 0-4     Wichita Cyclones W 3-2     CO Loveland Rage W 3-1

Onto bracket play – we started with MO Havoc, a very good team with a strong pitcher.  We gave up two unearned runs in the 4th inning to lose 0-2.  We played well, putting 9 base runners on, but, we were unable to get the key hit. We felt pretty good about how we competed, but, was disappointed to end up in the losers’ bracket so early. However, you showed so much pride and came back with a fury to win that evening 9-3 over the Tulsa blast.  You continued that intensity the next morning with a big game against the Jenks Diamonds from OK.  What a game, a 6 inning 1-0 win against a strong opponent.  While we were excited to win – we had great respect for the sportsmanship and quality of play that the Diamonds showed and were sorry that this was a loser’s bracket game and that someone’s season was over.  We followed that up with a 3-1 win over the Topeka Kryptonite.  Then came a very good defensive team with another strong pitcher from OK – the OK N-ferno.  Sure why not another 6 inning 1-0 game – at this point I think you were trying to cause your coaching staff to have heart attacks!!!   After that came a rematch against the Havoc and a 5-2 win.  We ended the tournament with a rematch of our pool game against the OK Twisters and eventual runners-up in the tournament.  We gave it everything we had and we had our opportunity with bases loaded and one out.  Twice you put the ball in play but the Twister’s made two fine defensive plays including a 2nd base diving catch to hold us to a 1-2 loss.

Our final standing in bracket was 5-2 for an over all record at Nationals of 7-3 – WELL DONE!
