2008-2009 Lightning Green Welcomes New Additions!

Swingbuilder Lightning Green would like to congratulate and welcome to our team:

Maya, Cassie and Miranda!

We are very excited about adding such great athletic talent. The commitment and quality of these players and their families will be a perfect fit with the outstanding players and families that are returning. Lightning Green is also excited to have 6 of its original players returning from our first year together, this will be their 3^rd season. Here's to a year of continuing to learn and grow as players; a fun filled year that is enriched by new friendships focused on the common goal of being the best team we can be!!

LIGHTNING GREEN PLAYS UP IN 14U & TAKES 2ND PLACE AT THE ASA FIRECRACKER
That’s the way to step up to a challenge and make something happen!! Awesome job this weekend Lightning Green, you stayed focus and took that next step of increasing the pace at which you play the game. The bats were on fire on Sunday and you played perhaps the best defense of the year. The pitching all weekend was solid. What a great way to complete our regular season before Nationals. Congratulations to the Blue Springs Ice on their Championship!! And, Congratulations to the Blue Springs Lightning Green on placing 3^rd in two tournaments, runners up in two others, and winning the Sonic Blast and the ASA KC Metro Championships!!!

ASA KC METRO CHAMPIONS

Tremendous job Lightning Green; you showed what playing as a team can accomplish! Great pitching, sensational defense, solid hitting and aggressive baserunning helped us to go undefeated in pool and bracket play. We outscored our opponents 28 to 6 this weekend. Keep up the hard work we are extremely proud of you!! Congratulations on your ASA KC Metro Championship!!

GREAT JOB AT MAE'S MAGIC!

Another strong performance at "Mae's Magic" to place 2nd at Hidden Valley; well done Lightning Green! The defense was our strong point with some terrific pitching and timely hitting which drove us to a 4-1 mark; scoring 29 runs and allowing only 9. Hat's off to the Rebels who played a terrific championship. Not very often do you see a 7 inning game in regulation. What a terrific season you are having - we are very proud of you!!!

Sonic Blast Tournament - First Place!!
Congratulations Lightning Green on Winning the Sonic Blast at Hidden Valley this weekend. It was nice to see you rewarded for all of the hard work and time you have put in. Keep up the good work and focus on the goals of becoming the best teammate and ball player you can be, playing with pride and sportsmanship and enjoying the game. You have now played three solid tournaments in a row; qualifying for both USSSA and the NAFA nationals. Over your last 16 games you have gone 12-3-1. Keep up the good work and positive things will continue to happen!!

Great Job at the T-Rex Tournament!

Fantastic job this weekend Lightning Green! We played strong defense, the bats were red hot, the pitching and catching behind the plate was tops and we even ran the bases very well - a complete team effort!! Placing 3rd in such a strong field of 12 was a great showing! We will try to list some player "shout outs" if time allows. But, remember this, everyone contributed to the teams success this weekend and that's what makes it special!

Lightning Places 4th at AFA Nationals in Lawrence KS

Great Job Players!!! Great defense, great intensity, great sportsmanship!!! Parents & Coaches could not be prouder. You have played your hearts out all year and represented the Lightning Organization in the highest manner. Blue Springs Lightning Green’s overall 10U record was 50-15-2. We placed in 7 tournaments winning 4 of those. The year ended in high fashion by placing 4^th at the AFA Nationals in Lawrence!!

The festivities started with some fun contests that we competed well in. Jordan finished 2^nd in the home run contest and Chelsey just missed placing in the base running contest. All of our girls competed and represented our team with great pride. After that pool play began where we went 2-1 to earn the 2 seed, just missing the 1seed by 1 run. The coaches had a feeling we were playing pretty well when they told us the CO State Champs and the OK State Champs were both in our pool. When there were 8 teams left in the tournament and 3 of those were from our group – we knew the Lightning Green was there to compete.

Pool Play Results OK Twister L 0-4 Wichita Cyclones W 3-2 CO Loveland Rage W 3-1

Onto bracket play – we started with MO Havoc, a very good team with a strong pitcher. We gave up two unearned runs in the 4th inning to lose 0-2. We played well, putting 9 base runners on, but, we were unable to get the key hit. We felt pretty good about how we competed, but, was disappointed to end up in the losers’ bracket so early. However, you showed so much pride and came back with a fury to win that evening 9-3 over the Tulsa blast. You continued that intensity the next morning with a big game against the Jenks Diamonds from OK. What a game, a 6 inning 1-0 win against a strong opponent. While we were excited to win – we had great respect for the sportsmanship and quality of play that the Diamonds showed and were sorry that this was a loser’s bracket game and that someone’s season was over. We followed that up with a 3-1 win over the Topeka Kryptonite. Then came a very good defensive team with another strong pitcher from OK – the OK N-ferno. Sure why not another 6 inning 1-0 game – at this point I think you were trying to cause your coaching staff to have heart attacks!!! After that came a rematch against the Havoc and a 5-2 win. We ended the tournament with a rematch of our pool game against the OK Twisters and eventual runners-up in the tournament. We gave it everything we had and we had our opportunity with bases loaded and one out. Twice you put the ball in play but the Twister’s made two fine defensive plays including a 2^nd base diving catch to hold us to a 1-2 loss.

Our final standing in bracket was 5-2 for an over all record at Nationals of 7-3 – WELL DONE!
