This is the Legacy...

and we continue into our sixth year as a fastpitch travel team that represents the most dedicated softball players in the central Kentucky area and beyond.   We compete at ASA whenever possible & showcase our motivated and talented players for collegiate playing opportunities.  We have qualified for ASA and USSSA world series, played in a USSSA and USFA world series, played teams from 12 different states, played tournaments in nine states, and have realized successes big and small each year.  Legacy has made a positive impact upon many young players lives in the Bluegrass in helping them improve their game and fastpitch opportunities.  We continue on & grow because others see what we're about...ambitious fastpitch.
                                ...over the years past...
2003
The Legacy competed at 12u its first year and went 18-7. Led by John & Annette Cook, among the list of 1st year tournament accomplishments was that of 5 tournaments, Legacy finished second at Spring Thaw (Knoxville, TN Legacy's very first tournament) and had first place finishes in Ohio.

2004  Legacy expanded horizons competing at the 14u level and went 500 overall (17-9 in final four tourneys) in 8 tournaments in four states (KY, OH, WV, & FL).  Coach Erin Sherrill guided the team to earning a USSSA world series berth at Fort Knox Worth NIT Classic.  At the USSSA world series in Orlando Florida, the Legacy was one of 62 teams from coast to coast, featuring teams from California to North Carolina and Minnesota to Louisiana.

2005  The 14u Legacy, with just two returning players and new coaching staff, competed in 8 tournaments in KY, TN, and OH and compiled a record of 23-16, placing third or higher in 5 of them.  In their final three, the Legacy finished 3rd, runner-up, and champion, going 15-6 in the second half of the season.  This team went 9-4 in Tennessee tournaments that summer and played Tennessee Xplosion three times, Nashville Nighthawks twice (in pool and championship games), and Knoxville Thunder.  In Fall of 2005, the Legacy began 16u and got a runner-up and 4th (of 8) in their two tournaments (Ashland, KY & in Nashville).

2006  Legacy continued on 16u-A and had a hard fought 7 tournament season with just a roster of 9, cut to 8 and even 7 at some tournaments.  Led by Coach Megan Hammond, the girls forged ahead in A-ball in spite of adversities that would derail most teams.  In the Fall, Coach Ron O'Hair took the reigns and upward into 18u A and went 500, playing two tournaments in Tennessee and one in Indiana.

2007  Legacy expanded into three teams; 18u, 14u, and 12u, led by Coaches Rick Walker, Chester Dugger, and Ann Kirkland.  The teams competed in ASA and USFA qualifiers and had several 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place finishes.   11 counties from the Central/Eastern Kentucky area were represented by these players.

2008 Legacy will compete for a national ASA berth.

Congrats Sarah Mathis on a strong varsity win!

Even the best eighth-grade pitchers are still just in the eighth grade.

Sometimes they lack the maturity, control and mental toughness of their high school counterparts.

Knowing this and knowing that she was going to start eighth-grader Sarah Mathis, Henry Clay Coach Tricia Crowe wanted to make sure the Devils did everything they could to make Mathis feel at home on the mound.

So Crowe asked her players to focus on getting on base and knocking in runs early to ease some of the pressure.

They did just that and led 6-0 after two innings before topping host Bryan Station 10-1 in the Lexington Fastpitch Showcase on Wednesday night.

"It's great to get that early lead to calm her nerves," Crowe said of Mathis, who allowed three hits in six innings. She gave up only one hit through three innings.

Mathis' teammates were happy to do what they could.

Lisa Grossman's single in the first put Henry Clay up 2-0. In the second, the Devils' aggressive base running bothered the Defenders and forced them into four errors.

"We needed runners in scoring position so we could have those big hits and score them easily," said Hannah Simpson, who scored twice (via a courtesy runner) and had two RBI for the winners.

Laura Derrickson had two hits and an RBI for the Devils (12-9), who snapped a two-game winning streak. They had won eight in a row before their slide.

"We wanted to jump on them early and get a good lead," Derrickson said.

Mathis was pitching in place of Karneisha Johnson, who had some soreness in her arm, Crowe said.

But the coach was pleased with Mathis' effort and the effort of the Devils to give the youngster some early breathing room.

"She pitched really well," Crowe said of Mathis. "She kept the ball on the ground, which is exactly what we asked her to do."

Legacy proud of teammate pitching Varsity!

Emma Harris, a 14u teammate has been pitching for her Williamstown High School Varsity softball team while the orginal Senior pitcher has been out due to an injury. Emma, just 13 has shown that age doesn't matter.... skill and perseverance will bring success.

She did really well Saturday in the All A tournament. She pitched the first two games and won both! They lost the championship 13-12 in 14 innings.

Emma made the All Region Team and was 2nd in line for the MVP.  She went 3 for 5 with a double, triple, 6 RBIs and 2 runs scored in the final.

Congrats Emma! Keep up the great work for your high school and we'll see ya soon!
