RICHMOND, Va. – After leading the Towson University women’s lacrosse team to a pair of wins and the Colonial Athletic Association Regular Season Title, junior midfielder Kelly Custer has been the CAA Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, it has been announced by league officials.

Custer is the second straight Tiger (13-3, 7-0 CAA) and fourth overall to win CAA Player of the Week honors this season (Andi Raymond – Apr. 16; Rhiannon Coogle – Mar. 26 and Mary Teeters – Mar. 6).

"Kelly has stepped up and has had such an impact for us through our CAA schedule, particularly between the lines and on our offensive end," said Towson coach Sonia LaMonica. "She has an incredibly positive attitude that rubs off on her teammates and we wouldn't be where we are without her role on this team".

Custer had six goals, an assist, a ground ball, caused turnover and two draw controls in wins over Hofstra and James Madison.

On Friday night in the 15-9 victory over George Mason, Custer had three goals including the game winner. The “hat trick” was Custer’s third straight. One of her goals in the game came on a free position attempt. Custer also had a draw control in the contest.

Custer came up big on Sunday as the Tigers battled James Madison for the CAA Regular Season Title. She had three goals for her fourth straight “hat trick.” One of Custer’s goals came late in the first overtime to tie the game at 9-9. In the second overtime her pass led to junior midfielder Sarah Hogan’s game-winning goal. Custer finished the game on Sunday with three goals, one assist, one ground ball, one draw control and one caused turnover.

For the season, Custer ranks third on the team with 27 goals and five assists while her 34 draw controls lead the team.

Custer and the Tigers who remain ranked 17th in the deBeer Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, are back in action on Friday, Apr. 27 when the CAA Tournament begins at Towson. The Tigers will face No. 4 Drexel at 12 p.m.
