Sub Divsion III Update - Tuesday Night

Lemon Grove POWERS past Norco!

With late information today that Lemon Grove (Section 7/ District 66) ace, Deandre Simpson was pulled early after the 1st inning of yesterday's start in order to preserve his "no rest required" due to pitch count, he was going to take the start again today.

Lemon Grove would bat first as the visiting team and wasted no time in putting up 2 quick runs against Norco LL, the same team they lost to on Sunday. It would stay 2-0 LG through the 2nd inning. Starter Simpson again leaving early to preserve his pitch status. Brad Moreno takes the mound and tries to fend off Norco.

Top of 3rd inning Lemon Grove bats E-X-P-L-O-D-E for 9 runs. Including a big blast by Simpson that may go down as the longest homerun hit and longest inning ever at La Sierra Little League. Score it Lemon Grove 11 - Norco 0 after 3 complete innings. Lemon Grove was trying to get out of there early after last night's game ended close to 11:30pm. With games ahead pitching is a concern for Lemon Grove, so changes with Brandon Weed coming in to pitch in the 4th. The score stayed locked at 11-0 after the 4th inning. Bottom 5 enter Esteban Liereas to try and close the door on Norco. Norco rallies to score 2 runs and force the 6th inning in lieu of early exit in the 5th.

Top of 6th inning, Lemon Grove batting, the bats are alive again as unsung hero Brad Moreno hits his second homerun in 2 days and scores 2 more. Then Simpson hits another homerun and plates 2 more runs. Lemon up 15-2. Lemon Grove would close out the top of the inning leading 17-2 with 3 outs needed to force the mercy rule. Lemon Grove gets the outs and wins the game as the crowd cheered, "Who Are WE?.......L-G!!!!!"

With the loss Norco is eliminated. While Lemon Grove advances to the championship round where they must win 2 games against Rancho Santa Margarita Little League to claim the Sub Division III South title. If they win on Wednesday night, then the "If" game would be forced since it would be RSM's first loss in the double elimination tournament.

Good Luck Lemon Grove - Game Time 7:00pm on Wednesday, July 28th at La Sierra LL in Riverside.

Sub Divsion III Update - Wednesday Night

Lemon Grove's Run is Over.

Lemon Grove Little League Junior All-stars were eliminated in the Championship round on Wednesday night with a 5-1 loss to Ranch Santa Margarita Little League.

Playing in it's sixth game in the Sub Division III South tournament while battling through the loser's bracket appeared to be too much for Lemon Grove as the tired team did their best. While RSM, playing only two games prior to Wednesday's game, appeared to clearly be the rested team.

It looked like the game started well as Lemon Grove led off the game with a hit but failed to move the runner along. Several innings had opportunity but the bats did not provide the spark to get the runs across. Coupled with the small field dimensions of the La Sierra field, line drives to the outfield which may have been doubles elsewhere were just singles. Luck was not in it today for Lemon Grove. Congratulations to the team for a great long run deep into tournament play.

As always credit is to be given to the staff of Manager, Andre Simpson and his coaches Frank Nunez and Carlos Weed. The Staff at La Sierra Little League and District 24 complimented Lemon Grove for a great team and fan support. Everyone represented District 66 and Section 7 as true Champions. We are proud of them.

Sub Divsion III Update - Monday Night

Hope is Alive for Lemon Grove

Facing possible elimination in Monday night's game, Ace, De Andre Simpson took the mound against Newmark Little League from Section 8/District 43 at La Sierra. Lemon Grove jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one inning. It stayed that way until they plated another run in the 4th to make it 4-1 Lemon Grove.

Lemon Grove added 2 more runs in the top of the 5th inning to make it 6-1 and then it got weird as unruly Newmark fans were yelling at the umpire for supposed bad calls. The Newmark pitcher objected as well and then got E-jected. Then the manager and his coach bumped the umpire and both of them were ejected. The game was postponed until the fans could be calmed. The game was finally resumed after a short delay.

Newmark made a run for a comeback and scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning with one inning to go. Lemon Grove was shutout in the top of the 7th with the home team, Newmark coming up with a 6-3 score. Lemon Grove was able to survive and get out of there with a 6-3 victory.

Lemon Grove now advances in the Loser's bracket with another game tomorrow night, Tuesday at 7:00pm. Keep it going LG!

Sub Division III Day 2 Update

Junior League Update - 15 minutes down Freeway 15 and 91 from the Senior League tournament, Lemon Grove was taking up Day 2 against Norco LL at La Sierra Little League in the Junior League tournament. Lemon Grove had a rough first inning as Norco had a runner on, after a base on balls and Norco hit a homerun over the shallow center field fence to start the game 2-0. Starting pitcher Brandon Weed was replaced by Frankie Nunez in order to preserve days of rest needed for pitching. With one on, Nunez gives up another homerun to Norco and they lead the game 4-0. It was not looking good for Lemon Grove but there were 7 innings still to go. Nunez settled down and appeared to have his command back.

Top of the 3rd inning, Lemon Grove started a big rally with 2 men on and DeAndre Simpson coming up to bat, a line drive mishandled by the first baseman and Lemon Grove had its first 2 runs with Brad Moreno and Esteban Lieras crossing home plate, 2 RBI's Simpson. A pass ball gives Simpson second base and Nunez hits a single to score him. A popup and strike out strands 2 Lemon Grove runners on base and Lemon Grove get 3 runs in the inning. After 3 1/2 innings, the score was now 4-3 Corona with Lemon Grove knocking on the door.

The score stayed the same until the Bottom of the 6th inning as Norco was able to add an insurance run and make the score 5-3. Top of 7 and Lemon Grove needed a lift. That lift came from Moreno who hit a line drive homerun to make it 5-4. Rally time? No, 2 pop flies to right field made it 2 quick outs and the game ended on a Strikeout.

Lemon Grove now moves to the Loser's bracket and must win it the hard way. Their next game is on Monday, July 26th at 8:00pm at La Sierra. Good Luck!
