Ridley Area Little League: Recent Emails

Saturday, April 6
Parents,  We wanted to update you all on some things as we approach the season.
Opening Day - The Executive Board has decided to move back Opening Day from April 6th to April 13th.  An email went out this past Monday to inform the coaches and they should have passed that information along to their teams.
This change became necessary because the poor weather we had in March prevented teams from getting enough practice time in the preseason.  In addition, the weather also prevented us from getting on the field to do work because we were pushing to use the field time for practice.  Lack of alternative fields complicated this since Willow and Nassau fields were not prepared by the Township becasue of the weather.  This decision will also give newly installed sod a better chance to take with what looks to be a warmer week.
We hope you understand the need for this change.  We feel this is in the best interest of the league and this extra week will make sure we have everything ready to go when we do open the season.
Parade – Our parade will coincide with Opening Day games.  Players and family members marching in the parade will assemble in the parking lot of Leedom School at 8:00 AM on Saturday, April 13.  The parade will start at 8:30 AM with the procession turning left out of the lot onto Chester Pike, turning left on Acres Drive and left on Darby Rd.  Teams will enter the complex via the Rodney Rd. entrance.  Teams and their sponsor will be announced and enter the field.  A short ceremony will follow with games beginning at 10:00 AM on the Major field and 10:15 on the Minor field.
Banners - One of the traditions of the Opening Day Parade is the banners each team will carry as they march to the field.  The design is up to each team but this is often a great chance to build some team chemistry and for parents and players to get to know one another.  This can be done at someone's house or the clubhouse will be available.  Banners typically have team name and sponsor along with players’ names.
Pictures - Due to a family emergency, our photographer will not be available to do team and individual pictures this Saturday as originally planned.  The reschedule date for pictures is now April 20th and those will be rain or shine.  As in previous years, teh team and individual pictures will be taken prior to that team’s game that day.
Schedules - Will be available for the entire season by the end of this weekend.  The schedules will be distributed first to the coaches and then will be posted on the website under the handouts section.
Uniforms – This year all divisions will wear uniforms with team names of major colleges.  Uniforms will be distributed to coaches at next Wednesday’s mandatory coaches meeting.  Each coach will get a box with his team’s uniforms.  Each player’s complete uniform will be bagged individually so every player gets exactly what they ordered.  If there are problems with fit we do have extra pants but we will not have extra shirts.
Rain Out Notification – We have had a large number of members signup for the rainout notification service that will send text messages to member phones to notify everyone in the event of a rainout or some other situation where contacting our membership becomes important.  This is truly the most expedient and productive method for otifying our members of cancellations.  This will be the only way the league will notify you in the case of cancellations or other short notice situations.  Please go to the league website (www.eteamz.com/leedom) for instructions.
No Smoking Reminder – The Ridley Area Little League grounds are a smoke-free facility.  Anyone wishing to smoke is asked to go to parking lot areas to do so.  We recognize the inconvenience but value player health over smokers’ rights and ask for your understanding and cooperation.

Best Regards,
Your RALL Board
