Welcome to the

Lake Erie Basketball League

Check the website often for the latest updates and news. This will be our main source for communication.

WEEK3 update - Two fan ejections occurred.  Here is reminder of Rule 6c, regarding fan and bench behavior.  Coaches should remind their team parents of this rule to protect your participation in the year-end tournament:

RULE 6 - Bench and Crowd Behavior-

6c)               "Coaches, parents and players shall focus their energies on player participation, team play, and sportsmanship.  Coaches, parents, and players shall not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct, especially towards referees and scorers.  The Coach is responsible for controlling their fans and parents.  Failure to do so could result in a technical foul and/or removal of the coach and parents/spectators from the game.

i)      If a team experiences a first time ejection of a coach, player or fan, action will be taken.  The result could be forfeiture of the game, forfeit the opportunity to play in the LEBL tourney, or other penalty determined by the LEBL board.

ii)    If a team experiences a second ejection at any point for the remainder of the season including playoffs, the board will take the appropriate action based on the incident but at a minimum you will forfeit the right to participate in the league tournament and will have to re-apply for entry into the LEBL next season.

Neither of the above penalties, i or ii, are subject to appeal."

The final schedule (Dec-2 version) is posted in the handouts section.  Changes for convenience (nor tournament conflicts) cannot be done due to the complexity of requirements including referee consectutive game requirements, pre-paid gym rental/ref fees/score keeper fees, etc.  Scheduling changes are very time consuming and are not as easy and up-front as they appear.

When sending email inquiries, please include division, age group and team name.

Know the rules!

The Lake Erie Basketball League is a developmental travel basketball league for community-based teams of fourth, fifth and sixth grade students. For the 2009-10 season, there are 123 teams (boys and girls) in the various divisions, representing 27 mainly western and southern suburbs of Cleveland. Each team plays 10 regular season games, and there is a post-season league tournament. The LEBL was founded in 1997 to give younger players an opportunity to play competitive basketball against talented players from other communities in a league setting. The League emphasizes individual and team fundamentals. To encourage the development of ball handling and court skills, zone defenses are not allowed at the fourth and fifth grade levels. Poor sportsmanship by players, coaches, or spectators is not tolerated.
