Coach Machado begins his Thirteenth year of teaching and coaching baseball at La Costa Canyon High School. At the end of the 2003 season he was named the CalHi Sports California State High School Baseball Coach of the Year. Coach Machado grew up in the Encinitas area and graduated from San Dieguito High School in 1989. After high school he attended Mira Costa College and Sonoma State University where he received his BA degree. At all three levels Coach Machado successfully competed in baseball. Upon his return from college he earned his teaching credential and began coaching at San Dieguito High. At La Costa Canyon since it opened in September of 1996, Coach Machado was instrumental in helping to build the field and facilities and has created a program that has become a power in San Diego County. During the first twelve seasons the LCC Varsity baseball team has a cumulative record of 257 wins, 121 losses and 1 tie. The Mavericks have notched 2 CIF Division I Titles, 5 Avocado League Championships; 3 second place finishes; 1 San Diego Lions Classic Division Tournament Championship; 5 Falcon/Pirate Tournament Championships; and 2 North County Tournament Championships. The Mavericks have made twelve straight CIF playoff appearances. In 1997 in their first year of existence the Mavs competed for the CIF title at Qualcom Stadium and in 2003 the Mavericks won their first CIF Championship while setting CIF records for the most wins in one season (32) and the most consecutive wins (27). The 2003 Mavericks earned the Cal-Hi Sports California Number One Ranking and their first National Number One Ranking by Studentsports.com. In 2004 the Mavericks finished second in league play but swept through the CIF Playoffs to win their second CIF Division I Championship. The Mavericks have reached the CIF Division I Finals in 4 out of their 12 years.
