Lawfield Thunder Select Program:

Purpose
Select hockey is an avenue for the players to receive more ice time to hone their skills and is not a win at all costs approach. The objective is to have fun, keep safe and enjoy some camaraderie with fellow players. Any coach / player abusing the system will be subject to dismissal if he / she do not adhere to the guidelines set forth.

Divisions
A Select team may be formed from each division Novice through Midget depending on factors that may influence the ability to operate a team and coaching availability.

Coaches Selection and Qualifications

Selection Committee will be formed and will be responsible for the selection of all Coaches.
All Coaches, Trainers and Managers will be selected and in place prior to November 1st.
All Select Coaches must be certified and registered with the Alliance at the NCCP Level coach, Coach Stream or higher.   All Select Trainers will be certified and registered with the Alliance as a HTCP Trainer level 1 or higher. All coaching staff must have a valid police check. Teams may carry up to five Coaches one of which must be a trainer.  Head Coach cannot double as the Trainer.

Tryouts

Tryouts are open to all players playing registered with an LMHA House League team for the current year. Cost per tryout will be per player, depending on division and determined and posted at tryout time. Coaches and Staff children will be independently evaluated to ensure they are capable of playing at the select level as per LMHA Rules and Regs.

Team Roster and Registration

Select program shall encourage maximum participation of all House League Players.  No one should be discouraged from trying out. Each team shall roster a maximum of 17 players (15 skaters and 2 goalies). NEW - Each Team MUST take a Minimum of 3 minor players on their team unless these players do not attend. AP Players will most likely be required in case of overlapping games and or practices within the HL.    It is recommended that AP players should have attended at least one tryout.   It is preferred that the selection of players will be spread throughout the divisional teams.  Purpose of spreading out the selection is to minimize the impact to the House League program and to give as many players as possible an opportunity for extra ice time. All players shall be registered with the Alliance on HC playing certificates.  Players are ineligible to participate in any form of competition and/or until official approval is given by the Alliance office.  Failure to do so may result in teams being deemed ineligible for sanctioned tournaments and Alliance House League Championships. Registration ensures coverage of HLS participants in the HC insurance program. Alliance House League Select playing certificates will be released upon payment to entry fees and upon approval of the certificates and team list by the Alliance Executive Director, the team will be eligible for exhibition games with other affiliated centers and approvedtournaments. All teams must register Alliance Player Declaration Lists if they wish to participate in the Alliance House League Championships.Allance H.L.S. teams and players accepted for sanctioned tournaments must be registered with the Alliance and participating in the Associations House League.

Team Budgets

As a result of the select program being a financially self-sufficient part of LMHA; each Select team shall organize and raise its own funds. Use of the LMHA name or logo for fund raising must have prior approval of the LMHA Board of Directors. A Proposed Team Budget - approved by LMHA- must be presented in November (before 1st tryout), on January 2nd and at the end of the season to the Select Convenor who will pass it on to the LMHA Board. Be prepared to have a Parent / Player meeting immediately after your last tryout when your team has been picked. It is also recommended to sign AP players at this time.  Each team must have a Manager, Team bank account and cheque requiring two signatures. Spouses are excluded as signing officers together.

Select and House League Priorities
A player's first responsibility is to his/her House League team. All games and practices within the House League take precedence over all other games and practices.  Select must work around the House League Program. - No exceptions. Participation of a Select player in any game or practice that conflicts with a House League game or practice will, result in the suspension of that player from the Select program, until a disciplinary hearing can be convened.  Action may also be taken against the Select Head Coach. Select suspensions will be as per the Alliance handbook.  Suspensions received in House League also impact select play.  Suspensions from Select is not to exceed the number of games called in the House League.  If there are no select games during the House League suspension, there is no suspension from Select. Select suspensions do not affect House League play, unless the severity of the suspension being levied is one which LMHA or other bodies have jurisdiction in assessing a penalty , discipline or suspension as a result of a members actions or conduct.  Signed Affiliated Players only may be called up from house league.  It is common courtesy to contact the Coach of the team the player is called up from. The Parents have the final say whether the player being called up plays or not.  You must mark that player as "AP" on the game sheet, if he/she is not listed on your game sheet. Select Coaches should practice fair share ice times during games whenever possible.  Coaches may utilize special teams, which will give some players advantage of some additional ice times.  Parents should be made aware of your intentions at the beginning of the season.

Jerseys and Socks

LMHA will provide jerseys, socks and name bars for all Select teams.  All costs to be borne by each select team, payment of which shall be no later than January 1st of each fiscal year, failing which the entire team may be suspended.

Exhibition Games/Practices- Travel Permits

Teams can organize exhibition games during the season, provided they don't conflict with house league play or practice schedules. You MUST notify Select Convenor of all exhibition games and tournaments to ensure you are covered under insurance. Travel permits MUST be obtained as per LMHA Rules and Regulations. Give LMHA's Referee in Chief enough advanced warning so Referee's can be booked if your team is hosting the exhibition game. Time and Score keepers are your responsibility to arrange for.

Game Sheets

All game sheets and copies of travel permits must be handed to the Select Convenor at the end of each month.

Referee's
LMHA Referee in Chief will schedule Referee's for your exhibition games on home ice.
Two Referee's MUST used in all divisions and a Referee and two Linesmen or just two Senior Referee's in divisions where body checking is permitted.  Referee in Chief will make that decision. Costs vary by Division and the Referee in Chief will inform you of those costs. All games shall be officiated by certified CHOP Officials who have registered with the Alliance for the current season.

Penalties and Suspensions

All match penalties occurring in exhibition and tournament games must be reported by the game Officials to the Alliance office.  Penalties received in House League play will carry over into that player's select team.  Select Convenor must be notified when a player is suspended. It is the ultimate responsibility of the Head Coach to ensure that a suspended player does not play, as per the OHF minimum suspension report. Failure of the Head coach to not impose the suspension on a player / team official will automatically see the Head coach suspended until further notice. If you are uncertain contact the Convenor for clarification.

Ice Allocation for Select Teams
Teams may schedule a maximum of six hours a month maximum for games and practices.  These hours will consist of no more than four hours of their own and two hours for return exhibition games.  Some lea way for return exhibition games per month will be allowed as long as they average no more than two hours per month for the season.  Tournament play does not count for this purpose.Teams will be responsible for all of their ice costs.

Tournaments

No more than three tournaments per season.
Remember when house league games are played before entering a tournament. House league schedules will not be altered to accommodate a select team going to a tournament. Remember to inform Tournaments of your house league game times, so they can if possible schedule around them.  Many tournaments will not accept Sunday restrictions. Refer to LMHA Rules and Regulations for Travel Permit requirements.

LMHA Standards

LMHA Inc. Constitutions, Rules and Regulations, HMHC, MHAO, HLS and HC Rules and Regulations govern all LMHA Select teams. All Coaches, Trainers and Managers are expected to know and follow the rules and regulations as set forth.LMHA Board of Directors / Discipline Committee reserves the right to cancel any Division select program if it is not being managed in the best interests of the Association and/or reserve the right to oversee the conduct and actions of our representatives.
