2007 Season Rundown

Week 5

The Fastpitch squad completed its regular season winning all 4 games. The team defeated York twice on Saturday 6-5 & 11-3. Sunday saw the Hawks defeat Queen's university 7-0 & 9-6 (8 innings).

The team completed a very succesful season with a 16-6 record.

The team prepares for the Championships this weekend in London...Round Robin game times are 5 pm Friday evening, 10 am & 12 pm on Saturday.

Week 4

The Women's Fastpitch finished Thanksgiving weekend with a 3-1 record. The team started slowly, losing 9-4 to in the first of a double header with last years champions, the Western Mustangs. The team rebounded nicely with an 11-4 victory over the Mustangs The offence was sparked by triples from Kelly Craig and Jody Waltho. Haylea Leaman was 3 for 3 in Stolen Base attempts. Katie Westoby picked up the win.

Sunday saw two nail biters vs the Windsor Lancers. Jody Waltho hit a walk off homerun in the bottom of the 7th to win game #1 4-3. Game 2 saw much of the same....the game went to international tie-breaker tied 1-1. Jody hit her 2nd homerun of the day to seal the victory 3-1. The defence played another strong game.

The team is home to York & Queen's this weekend, rounding out the regular season.

Saturday vs York 10 am & 2 pm Kinsmen

Sunday vs Queen's 10 am & 12 pm Kinsmen.

Week 3


The Laurier Women's Fastpitch team played 5 games in Week #3 and finished with a 4-1 record at the end of the weekend. The team defeated the University of Waterloo Friday night by a score of 6-4. Melissa Millar and Katie Westoby combined for the W. Saturday the team was downed by Mac by a score of 9-2. The team rebounded nicely...finally unleashing their powerful bats for the first time this season..run-ruling Mac 13-0 in the second game. The second game vs McMaster was the best game of the season by the squad. Sunday morning saw the team continue their hitting, defeating Brock by a 10-3 score. The second game vs Brock was much closer with the Lady Hawks picking up a 3-2 win. The team welcomes last years defending Champion, the Western Mustangs to Kinsmen park for a DoubleHeader Friday night!

Friday vs Western @ Kinsmen Park in Cambridge 5 pm & 7 pm
Saturday vs Windsor @ Kinmen Park in Cambridge 1 pm & 3 pm




Week 2


The Laurier Women's Fastpitch team travelled to Ottawa for week 2 to take on the Gee-Gee's and Carleton Ravens. The 6 hour drive Sat morning took its toll as the team dropped both games 7-6 & 8-5. The first game was uncharacteristic as both teams made a number of errors. The Hawks left 17 runners stranded in scoring position over the two games. Sunday was much better as the team run-ruled Carleton in both games 10-0 & 14-0. The team looks to continue it's offensive prowess this weekend with 5 games on the slate.


Friday vs Waterloo @ Waterloo Park 6:30 pm.
Saturday vs McMaster @ Kinsmen Park in Cambridge 2pm & 4pm
Sunday vs Brock @ Kinmen Park in Cambridge 12pm & 2pm

Week 1


The Laurier Women's Fastpitch team opened the 2007 season with a 3-2 record. The ladies faced rival UW Friday night and were victorious by a 5-3 score. The team travelled to Toronto on Saturday and swept the Blues by 4-3 scores in both games. The second game was highlighted by a 3-1 comeback thriller in the bottom of the 7th inning when Cat Smith drove in the winning run. Both Melissa Millar and Katie Westoby picked up the pitching wins. The Lady Hawks then took on Guelph and hit the ball hard but could not find a hole the entire day losing 3-1 and 4-2. It was a great start to the season by all players.
