Laurel Little Leaguer Selected to go to Hawaii! Congrats to Meagan Gontarek for being selected to represent Maryland in the King Kamehameha Softball Classic in Hawaii this coming June! Meagan will being joining players from across the United States and will be given the opportunity to practice and play under the direction of college coaches. Meagan lives in Laurel, Maryland and is a 17 year old senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. She has played on Laurel Little League teams for over 8 years! She credits her Laurel Little League experience for helping her make the Eleanor Roosevelt Varsity Softball team as a freshman. In 2008 she was named to the Gazette Newspaper’s first team all-county team. She has represented Laurel Little League as an All-Star eight times and has made it to three Little League State Softball Championships! In order to participate in this event she needs your help. The cost of this trip is $2,495 for each player. She is currently selling King Kamehameha Softball Classic t-shirts as a way to raise funds. The t-shirts cost $20 a piece and for every 100 shirts sold the King Kamehameha Softball Classic will donate $50 to Meagan. If you would like to purchase a shirt or make a donation please email her at mlgontarek@yahoo.com. Orders will be placed in December 2008. You can also visit esisoftball.com for more information. Please help if you can. A sample of the t-shirt graphic (front and back) from 2008 is shown below.
Again, congrats to Meagan for being selected! Sunday, October 26 Fall Baseball was a smash! Laurel Little League had a great "Fall Ball" season this year! We played every Sunday and the kids got to work on the fundamentals that they might not have been able to during the spring season. That being said Registration for the Spring 2008 season is opening soon! Be sure to sign up and get our EARLY BIRD rate! Also, keep checking the website for upcoming Winter Clinics we are planning! To all the players, parents and volunteers who help we thank you and look forward to seeing you at the clinics and SPRING TRAINING next year! Friday, April 4 Volunteers needed for Field Maintenance Crew! We are looking for volunteers to join the "lawn mowing brigade" to keep the Legion looking its best throughout the season. One of the requirements of our "lease agreement" with the American Legion is that we maintain the grass on and around the field and the horseshoe pit/picnic area. This will require the help of volunteers to help drive the John Deere and run weed-eaters around the fencelines every week. Please sign-up for one or more weeks by sending me an email at dlstroud@aol.com as soon as possible. My hope is to get enough volunteers so that noone has to do it more than once. If there are high-school aged kids looking for service hours, here is a tremendous opportunity! Thanks in advance for your support. Friday, April 4 Equipment Manager Needed We are looking for someone willing to volunteer to be our official Laurel Little League equipment manager. Efforts over the past couple of years have shown us that this important position needs someone who is not volunteering in other capacities (ie managers and coaches) as it always seems to take a back seat to the primary duties! The main functions will be to inventory existing equipment, assist in identifying new equipment requiirements, and developing and implementing an equipment inventory process for issuing and returning equipment for accountability purposes. If you are interested/willing to help, or know someone who is (ie: another responsible family member or family friends, etc.), please contact Kevin Stroud at dlstroud@aol.com for details. Friday, April 4 Laurel Little League is looking for sponsors and donors! Only through the generous support of our members and sponsors can we continue to offer such an affordable program for our children. You can contribute in the following ways:
Join our email list and stay informed! Join our email list and stay informed. We will email anyone on the list about upcoming events as well as game cancellation/changes. Click here to send email and contact info. Laurel Little League will not share your email address with anyone. Saturday, March 29 Let's play ball!!!!! Big news!!!! The drafts have been completed for all teams and rosters have been forwarded to our managers. They should be contacting you within the next couple of days to let you know when they will meet. At first glance of the rosters, it appears we are growing and building from the bottom up in line with our goals. Evaluations showed us that the player pool is packed with outstanding talent at the Minors and Majors levels, so we are sure to have an exciting season! Remember, whether your child is in Teeball or the Majors, our primary goal in Laurel Little League is for the kids to have fun playing the game we all love and learn how to win gracefully and lose with dignity. Game schedules are currently being developed as well as plans for picture day (mid-season this year!) and our end of season tournaments! Finally, please consider volunteering to help us out where you can, we are always looking for volunteer umpires, snack shack volunteers, and assistance in maintaining the fields. In particular, we are looking to find a volunteer or two to take on the responsibility of League Equipment Manager to help us improve on our equipment organization, maintenance, and issue processes. If you are willing and able, please give Kevin Stroud (301-332-9713) or Pete Ruiz (301-725-5850). That's enough for now! Play Ball! |
