Why Should I Become a Volunteer?
Las Niñas Baja Fastpitch Softball is an organization designed to build good citizens, as well as developmentally sound softball players. Las Niñas relies on devoted adult volunteers to help ensure that the organization remains structured and runs smoothly. We are always looking for responsible and enthusiastic individuals to support and coordinate Las Niñas events and activities. As a volunteer, you should have a keen interest in the safety, well-being, and overall development of the girls of our league. By reading further, you will discover that the benefits of volunteering are endless. You will also gain a better understanding of why you should become involved, who volunteers are, what you can do, and how you can sign up.
Who Can Volunteer?
Anyone can apply to become a volunteer. Whatever talents or skills you have, we can use them! Volunteers are grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, retirees, community leaders, former Las Niñas players, friends, neighbors, and more. Any community member who wishes to become a volunteer may apply. All parents of children involved in Las Niñas are strongly encouraged to volunteer. As a parent, volunteer, you have the opportunity to spend quality time with your child in a safe, fun-filled environment. Oftentimes, parent and child social lives parallel each other. Volunteering allows your life and your child's life to intersect on common ground, with shared interests and goals. On rare occasions the Baja Arizona Girls Softball League (member of the Arizona Softball Association – ASA), may deny individuals the privilege of volunteering for reasons, past or present, which may be detrimental to the positive development of young people, other volunteers, and/or the Arizona Softball Association in general. When you apply to become a volunteer, you give the Arizona Softball Association the right to conduct necessary background checks. Each volunteer must pass this check to be in the dug-out or on the field with the girls. Each team is required to have a Female Team Manager. A female staff member must be present at all team practices and games.
How Do I Become A Volunteer?
Take a minute to fill out the volunteer and background check form at registrations. You may also find the forms on our website www.lasninas.bajasoftball.org under the Handouts section. You may bring it to any of our registrations, or scan and email the forms. You must submit a legible copy of your driver’s license with the required forms. There is a $20 fee to become a volunteer. The fee covers the ASA registration and secondary insurance and the background check.
What Can I Volunteer To Do?
No experience is required to become a volunteer. Most of the volunteer opportunities require little or no training. Las Niñas will do its best to provide you with any necessary training (as well as support and encouragement), as they deem necessary. The best volunteers are those who are able to bring added enjoyment to the game simply by being themselves.
What Should I Expect When On The Team Staff?
For the Spring 2012 season participation in Spring Training will be expected by all staff members in the age division in which they are coaching for the Spring 2012 (please refer to the Las Niñas welcome letter for specific dates). We always welcome help on the other age divisions as well. Only staff members that have passed the background check will be allowed to be on the field or in the dugout with the players. There will be a team staff meeting prior to the season beginning (date & time TBD). The Head Coach and Team Manager must be present at the Team Draft meeting which will take place at the conclusion of Spring Training. The team will be expected to regularly hold two practices a week when team practices begin the first week of March (exception to this is when league play begins and there are games being played on practice fields or other field scheduling conflicts.). When league play begins your team may have up to two games per week. Participation in the Opening Ceremonies, the Annual Hit-A-Thon and Closing Ceremonies is also required.
Thank you for considering being a Las Niñas volunteer! Without our devoted volunteers this league would not exist! As always feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns!
