From the webmaster:
I came across an interesting article in Referee Magazine. In an interview with Kermit Quisenberry a FIFA assistant referee he talks about a tip he received from Alfred Kleinaitus {USSF manager of referee development} concerning offsides. He said to imagine every new touch of the ball as a different picture. So if a person was in an offsides position in snapshot 1 is he/she in snapshot 2, etc. He says he talks to himself while judging offside by saying yes/no each time ball is touched.

"Why is there only 1 ball for 22 players? If you gave a ball to each of them, they'd stop fighting for it" ~ Author Uknown

With all the recent LIGHTNING DEATHS in the news we all need
To be vigilant this coming season. If you are going to a match and know
that a storm could be in the area take all the necessary precautions before
the game starts. Find out from home team coach where everyone should go
in case of a storm. Thunderstorms travel very fast, do not take any chances.
If you see lightning or hear thunder suspend the game and clear the field.
Have everyone seek shelter and wait 30 minutes from the last lightning
you see or thunder you hear.

ON LINE DISQUALIFICATION FORM
Did you know you can submit an on-line form to the PIAA for Red Cards? Go to the PIAA website www.piaa.org click on Officials Information in the upper left hand corner. At the next screen in the upper right is a box which says Officials Login. Here you put in the FIRST 4 letters of your last name followed immediately by the LAST 4 numbers of your social security number. Example Jim Dandy Social # 555-66-7777 His login would be: DAND7777 When this is done properly you can now: Fill out an online version of the Disqualification form (a copy is emailed back to you for your records). Its slick and works fast. A lot easier than finding a fax the next day. And you don’t need to print anything out. Click Here to go the PIAA website.

A REFEREES MOST IMPORTANT DUTY---To use good sense in controlling a game so that the players and spectators enjoy a safe, fairly-played game.

******** LETS ALL WORK TO DO OUR VERY BEST THIS COMING SPRING SEASON. ********

Are you ready to rumble SPRING Soccer IS HERE---- I hope everyone has been getting in shape for the coming season, never to late start your program now. ****

Pre-Game Responsibilities:
Officials should arrive at the field 20-25 minutes before the start of the game, properly dressed. They should inspect the field of play, nets, game balls, inquire about ball runners, and ask if a stadium clock is to be used. Officials should get a roster from both teams at this time.

Officials should be sure to check players equipment before the start of the game. Get to the game site early so you can walk around and check players shin guards, shoes, socks and for anything that should not be worn during the game like ear rings, etc. This should be done before start of every game.

The officials should have a pre-game conference between themselves and go over what each official's responsibilities are. About 5-10 minutes before game time, officials should conduct a pre-game and coin flip between the captains and coaches of each team. At this time, go over the PIAA Sportsmanship message, and ask both teams if they have any questions. This would also be a good time to go over any new changes in the Laws.

Officials, remember to work as a team, keep eye contact, mirror each others signals, and stay with the second to last defender or the ball which ever is closer to the goal line.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Make sure you check the field of play and make sure there are no dangerous objects on or near the field that could cause injuries to players. Make sure the goals are weighted down or staked into the ground. Check for any grates or vents around the field and if you find any make sure they are covered. No where everyone is going if you have lightning during the game.

I see you're doing your first 1-man game....
