Lake VBC U12-1: Welcome

Derik Stratton: U12-1 Head Coach

This will be Derik’s 4th season on staff with Lake.  Derik’s playing career began after playing basketball through high school.  He started playing outdoor volleyball as a full-time pastime.  Derik was a walk-on at Brigham Young University and played a couple of years there in the opposite and setter positions and was fortunate to be coached by some of the best coaches in the US- Carl McGown, Tom Peterson, Hugh McCutcheon.  He also played competitive beach volleyball in both the Northwest and Utah and continues to play both indoor and outdoor volleyball for recreation.  Derik spent the last 4 years as a head coach for Snohomish Youth Volleyball where his girls have gotten their start in the game.  Derik loves the sport of volleyball and is excited to help others have fun and gain personal satisfaction through playing at a high-level of competitive volleyball. 

Tim Dahlquist: U12-1 Assistant Coach

This will be Tim’s 3rd year on staff with Lake with 2 years of previous club experience as a parent liaison and scorekeeping trainer.  Tim fell in love with the sport of Volleyball 6 years ago while watching his daughter play at the local B&G club has not looked back since.  Tim is looking forward to a great season with the U12 Team.

 Gene Smith:  U12-1 Assistant Coach

This will be Gene’s 2nd year coaching with Lake VBC.  He has been coaching volleyball with the Lake Stevens Boys and Girls club for 6 years working with athletes 8-14 year old and is eager to apply himself to a more competitive and structured training environment.  Gene is a high energy, compassionate volleyball coach whose love for the game is contagious.  With 10 years of playing experience he continues to play in local adult leagues and open gyms playing Middle Blocker and Right Side.  Off the volleyball court Gene has been working for Fire District  #1 for 19 years, had been a paramedic for 22 and currently holds the position of Captain MSO. (medical supervising officer)
