Lakeside Volleyball club has changed our name and here is why...... When the Club started 6 years ago we were a small 2 team club based out of Lake Oswego, Or. With the growth and success of the club(from 2 to 15 teams), Club based summer camps, our 6 court training facility, the philosophy of teaching skills, specialized training for position players, scheduled physical training sessions and players currently coming from the greater Portland area and beyond, the time is right to change the name to better reflect the Academy programs and the larger scope of Volleyball that the Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy offers.

To last years teams.....Great Job by all, Players, Parents and Coaches .......The BEST finish ever for Lakeside Volleyball CLub in all of the age brackets............. 4 teams finished in the Gold Division, 2 teams finished in the Silver division, 2 teams in the Bronze Division, every team moved up at least one division

Some clubs recruit the top volleyballers around, surround them with lesser players, and then hope that the all-star girls’ skills will overcome the lack of cohesion as a unit. Other clubs recruit the top athletes in the region, put them together once or twice a week and then hope that their athleticism will carry them through.

We’re a little different. We try not to actively recruit any all-stars looking for the “best deal” team.
We want the type of athlete who will work harder and longer to get individually better. They want to earn their successes not because of the All-American playing next to them, but because of their own work and ability.

All of our players know that their commitment will be for much more than just a day or two a week. Great athleticism will carry you a long way, but we would rather have athlete who is willing to work harder. Then again, if we get the great athletes who are also willing to train harder, well, watch out!! In time, like the fable of the tortoise and the hair, better training and work ethics will beat out athleticism almost every time. We work towards a sense of TEAM where EVERYBODY contributes if we are to be successful. How to get it: Practice during the season provides a huge portion of the training, camaraderie, and instruction you will need to reach your goals. However, everybody progresses differently: some players have skills that need to be corrected and others may have more advanced skills. Others may need “one-on-one” work to get them through a particularly difficult technique. The solution is the following:

Buying into a culture that may be new - one where you need to trust and depend on your teammates and coach to always “. . . do the right thing.”

This also requires that you buy into the Oregon Juniors system - a protocol that does not differentiate between teams. The #2 team to practice like the #1 team, all teams learn the same techniques, team concepts are the same and EVERY player on EVERY team to participate in the same drills at age-specific speeds. This allow EVERY girl regardless of team level, to contribute when necessary to any team, at any time. This also allows us to have numerous competitive teams at every age level.
