PONY Mid-Atlantic Regional Nationals Results
The Lake Shore Lightning 10U team traveled to Sterling, Virginia this past weekend to compete in the PONY Mid-Atlantic Regional Nationals and played outstanding softball all weekend long. The team went 5-2 and took 3rd place in the tournament. The girls bounced back from the previous weekend's disappointment at the Blue Gray Summer Shootout and showed a lot of character defeating several very talented teams from across the entire Mid-Atlantic region including the USSSA #2 ranked team in the nation, the Loudoun Storm. Congratulations on an outstanding season and good luck at the NSA National World Series in Chattanoogo, Tennessee. (Overall Season Record 53-14)

USSSA Blue-Gray Summer Shootout Results
Breaking News: There is currently a missing persons report issued for the entire Lake Shore Lightning 10U team. We don't know who kidnapped our players, but the coaching staff is asking for their safe return so that they can participate in the rest of the season. The team had a very difficult weekend on the diamond in the Blue-Gray Summer Shootout this past weekend. The girls came out flat from the start of game one and just could not shake the funk. The team struggled in all aspects of the game and did not perform up to their potential. The girls will look to bounce back next weekend in the Pony Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Virginia before concluding their season in Chattanooga, Tennessee at Nationals. (Overall Season Record 48-12)

Ocean City Blast at the Beach Champions
For the second straight year, the Lake Shore Lightning 10U team traveled east to Ocean City, Maryland and won the annual USSSA Blast at the Beach tournament. The Lightning dominated the competition over the three days going 7-0 while outscoring their opponents 54-10. Once Friday and Saturday's pool play had been completed, the team had earned the number one seed going into Championship play. After winning their first two games on Sunday, the girls once again found themselves facing the number two seed and defending Delaware State Champions, the Diamond State Swoop, for the title. The team fought hard and controlled the game throughout to capture the championship with a 5-2 victory. The Lightning played great defensive softball all weekend and used solid pitching and timely hitting in winning this title. The girls dedicated this championship to their fathers in honor of Father's Day. Congratulations Lightning. (Overall Season Record 48-8)

Louisville Slugger Rock 'N' Rumble Results
The Louisville Slugger Rock 'N' Rumble tournament lived up to it's name. In Saturday's pool play games, the Lightning team came out slugging the softball all over the diamond. The offense was red hot scoring 31 runs over the 3 games while the defense was solid in only giving up 3 the entire day. The team won all 3 games on Saturday and was the number 1 seed going into elimination play on Sunday. However, with the bulls-eye on their back yet again, the Lightning started out their first game on Sunday with an early 4-1 lead. Unfortunately, the lead would not last and the team came up short of their goal. (Overall Season Record 41-8)

Memorial Day Madness Results
The Memorial Day Madness tournament is one of the best tournamens of the season. Teams from all over the Mid-Atlantic region converge on Chambersburg, Pennsylvania for three days of exciting fastpitch softball. The Lake Shore Lightning 10U team played extremely hard on Saturday and Sunday to earn the 5th seed in the Gold Bracket of Championship play with a 5-1 record in pool play. On Monday morning, the team faced a tough Orion Hunter team and won that game 2-1 via International Tie-breaker. In the second game on Monday, the team let a victory slip away and fell short to the Hampton Road Vipers by a score of 5-4 thus ending their tournament run. (Overall Season Record 38-7)

Black Eyed Susan Results
It was a beautiful weekend to play fastpitch softball and the Lake Shore Lightning 10U team was on the diamond again. Throughout the weekend, the team played hard but made several timely mistakes that were just too much to overcome. Although the girls had a tough weekend, they still managed to make it to the championship game on Sunday afternoon to face a very good Xplosion team from Virginia. The Lightning played hard but in the end, the Xplosion won the game and took the Championship trophy back to Virginia. (Overall Season Record 32-5)

Maryland Stars Spring Sparkler Results
The weekend started out wet again, but the Lake Shore Lightning 10U team wasn't going to let the weather hold down their spirit. In the first pool play game on Saturday, the Lightning defeated a very good Tri-State Thunder team in their final at bat by a score of 4-3. The second game of the day was against the Ashburn Shooting Stars and once again the Lightning was victorious by a score of 10-1. In the final game on Saturday, the Lightning defeated the McLean Magic 4-0. Tthe team continues to use solid pitching and timely hitting as their formula for success. Due to late night thunderstorms on Saturday night, all championship play on Sunday was cancelled. (Overall Season Record 29-3)

Lake Shore Lightning Invades Philadelphia to Capture Championship
For the second straight weekend, the Lake Shore Lightning 10U team traveled north and brought the championship back to Maryland. The Lightning, along with 9 other teams, participated in the 10th Annual Mom's Splash at the River in Philadelphia under bright blue sunny skies. In Saturday's pool play, the team finished 3-0 after run-ruling all three teams they played. On Sunday, the Lightning's bats stayed hot and carried the team to victory three more times. The team played extremely well the entire weekend while outscoring the competition by a combined score of 76-10. The girls dedicated this championship to their moms as a special thanks in honor of Mother's Day. Congratulations Lightning. (Overall Season Record 26-3)

10th Annual Irish Opener Champions
Finally, the sun decided to shine for an entire weekend, but that didn't stop the Lake Shore Lightning from reighning in New Jersey. The 10U team traveled to West Deptford, New Jersey this weekend and dominated on the diamond. The team won all 5 games by a total combined score of 36-9. On Saturday, the Lightning went 3-0 in pool play behind solid pitching and strong hitting to secure the number 1 seed and a first round bye on Sunday. The Lightning came out hot on Sunday, defeating the Lady Yellow Jackets (8-0) and the Mystics (7-3) to bring the title back to Maryland. Congratultions to the entire team for a well played tournament. The team has now qualified for the NSA, PONY, and USSSA world series. (Overall Record 20-3)

Cherry Blossom Results
Rain, Rain, go away! Fortunately for the 10U age group, it did just that at least for one day. Due to the weather, the Cherry Blossum tournament in Vienna, Virginia was shortened to a one day event. The Vienna Stars organization did a great job getting Caffi Fields playable on Sunday. Lake Shore once again showed their character as they battled against the teams from Virginia. In the first game, the Lightning dominated the McLean Magic by a score of 10-0. The second game of the day was against the Ashburn Shooting Stars who the week before gave the Lightning their only loss at the Spring Fling tournament. Well, the Lightning came out ready and returned the favor with a 6-0 win against the Shooting Stars. In the third game, the team faced a tough Tidewater Holland Terror team but the Lightning would not be denied and clinched a spot in the championship game with a 5-2 victory. In the title game, Lake Shore squared off against the Loudoun Storm and ran out of gas. The Storm went on to win the game and take the title. (Overall Season Record 15-3)

Spring Fling Results
The season is just getting started and the Lake Shore Lightning team can not catch a break from Mother Nature. Day one of the USSSA Spring Fling was washed out which forced the tournament to be a one day event. The Lightning came out hot in game one, defeating the Heartbreakers by a score of 16-2 in just three innings. The second game of the day was another run-rule win as the team defeated the Central PA Krunch by a score of 9-1 in four innings. In game three of the day, the Lightning came up short against the Ashburn Shooting Stars by a score of 5-2 as the bats fell silent. However, true to form, the Lightning did not let that loss ruin their day as they went on to defeat the Southern Maryland Shockers in game four by a score of 12-0 in three innings. Unfortunately for the team, the loss in game three to Ashburn was costly as the team did not finish in the medals despite only giving up 8 total runs over their four games. (Overall Season Record 12-2)

Champions of the USSSA Chesapeake Challenge
What a weekend for fastpitch softball. The 10U Lightning team had to deal with all types of weather this weekend in order to be successful. The games were delayed by major storms that included lightning, thunder, rain, and hail. However, when the weekend was over, Lake Shore was once again victorious. The Lightning team once again demonstrated dominating pitching performances and timely hitting to win their first three games. The final game of the weekend came down to a winner-take-all match-up between the reigning 2010 Maryland State Champions (LSL) and the 2010 Delaware State Champion, Diamond State Swoop. The game was an instant classic. Both teams were held scoreless through 7 completed inning. The 8th inning started under the International Tie-Breaker Rule and the Lightning struck first to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 8th, the Swoop battled back to tie the game at 1. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th and a runner on second, the Swoop singled to center field but the runner was thrown out at the plate to keep the game tied. In the top of the 9th, the Lightning put together a big 4 run inning to break the game open with a commanding 5-1 lead. The Swoop did get another run but was shut down by an outstanding pitching performance.

2nd Place at USSSA Kickoff Klassic
The 2011 Lake Shore Lightning 10U team went 5-1 this weekend at Rockburn Branch Park to earn 2nd Place at the Kickoff Klassic. The team played hard until the last out falling to the Loudoun Storm by a score of 5-4 in the Championship game. After trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Lightning put together a big inning with clutch hitting to take a 4-3 advantage. However, the Storm battled back in the top of the 7th to reclaim the lead at 5-4. The Lightning fought back in the bottom of the 7th and had the bases loaded when the last out was recorded. Both teams finished the weekend with identical 5-1 records, handing each other their only loss. (Overall Season Record 5-1)

On August 20th, Delegate Nic Kipke surprised Coach Terry with a citation from the Maryland General Assembly honoring his 28 years of dedicated service to the community. The Citation was signed by all four members of the Maryland General Assembly representing District 31, including Senator Simonaire, Delegate Kipke, Delegate Dwyer, and Delegate Schuh.

Lake Shore Lightning Competes in the NSA World Series
Rock Hill, SC- The Lightning went 3 and 2 in the NSA World Series to finish 13th. LSL's losses were to the 3rd and 5th place teams. The girls had a great time, played hard, and enjoyed all of the events. Check out the World Series Photo Album to see some photos of the fun.

LSL Captures Second in the Blue-Gray Summer Shootout
Severn, MD- The Lightning went 2 and 1 in an abbreviated tournament schedule to place second in the Blue-Gray Summer Shootout. The girls finished behind a strong Virginia Crushers team.
The team finished the season at an impressive 51, 10, and 2 (.810) on their way to the NSA World Series in Charlotte.
