League Info
Welcome to the La Jolla Pop Warner Football Association. Our team of dedicated volunteers, players and cheerleaders welcome you. Your son or daughter has made a significant commitment to become involved in one of the most highly regarded athletic programs that exists today. The Pop Warner Association is the only organized youth sports group that not only places an importance on athletic ability, but equally important, their scholastic achievements.

This page is a comprehensive compendium of information regarding our league. Reviewing this page and our Frequently Asked Questions Page (FAQs) should answer most of your questions. If you have any questions after reviewing our site please contact us at :

About the League
La Jolla Pop Warner (“LJPW”) is open to eligible boys and girls ages 5 to 15 that live within the our approved boundaries described below. Participation in LJPW requires a significant commitment of time and energy and it is not for everyone. However, for those that make the commitment and are willing to work hard it will be a fantastic experience they will never forget.

Football is the ultimate team sport that has something to offer anyone with the desire to participate and work hard. The commitment that the boys and girls will be making is not just to themselves, but to their team mates, coaches and league volunteers. That commitment means being at practice, learning their play book, showing respect to teammates, coaches and officials, playing hard, doing well in school and having a great time.

Our Season
Summer practice begins August 4th, with practices during the month of August four days a week, 2 1/2 hours per day for tackle teams and three days a week, 1 1/2 or 2 hours per day for flag teams. Practice times are determined by the head coach of each team and may change from time to time. However, we strive to keep practice times for all of our teams as close as possible for families with children playing on multiple teams. August practices will generally start at 5:00pm, but may change to accommodate the high school team’s requirements. We switch to a three day practice schedule in September with games typically on Saturday beginning the first week of September. It is very important for players to attend the August practices because players are required to complete 10 hours of conditioning before they are allowed to receive equipment and participate in contact drills and scrimmages. Teams will likely have several pre-season scrimmages against other leagues on Saturdays in late August. We will likely have pre-season games scheduled on Labor Day weekend and the following weekend with the regular season commencing thereafter.
Home games will be played at La Jolla Country Day School. The regular season ends by October 31st and the post season may go into November depending on how far your team advances in the playoffs.

Our Conference
We are a member of the San Diego Pop Warner Conference which includes the following Leagues La Jolla Torreys, Mt Helix Running Rebels, Alpine Mountaineers, South San Diego Jaguars, Tierra Santa Cougars, Valencia Park Hornets, National City Diablos, Coronado Islanders, Lakeside Longhorns, Scripps Ranch Falcons,  Rancho San Diego Norseman, San Carlos Patroits.

La Jolla Country Day Field Rules
LJPW is the Official Feeder team of La Jolla Country Day School. We enjoy the support of the entire dedicated Country Day faculty and appreciate their generosity including the use of their fields and their time. As guests we have to abide by their rules as well as those imposed by Pop Warner. Therefore, no one is allowed on the field before, during, and after a game unless they are on the team's official roster or have a Pop Warner issued ID badge. Everyone else must remain in the stands or behind the field fences.

  • No food or drinks other than water are allowed on the field. Gum and sunflower seeds are especially harmful to the turf. Teams will have to enter the stands for half-time and post game snacks.
  • Please do not enter the field area unless you have a Pop Warner issued badge or have been asked to work the chains.
  • Please do not leave any trash on the field or school grounds. Please carry out everything you carry in.
  • Please exhibit good sportsmanship and represent La Jolla in a positive manner.
  • Please respect La Jolla Country Day School. We are very fortunate to be the Official Pop Warner Feeder Team for La Jolla Country Day School and have the use of their wonderful facilities.

Refund Policy:
It is the policy of LJPW to not offer a refund to any player that can be assigned a team (rostered) once registered. Any player assigned to the wait list will forfeit their right to a refund once accepting a position on a team. The league incurs most of the expense of a registered player long before the season begins, therefore please understand that REGISTRATION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE!

Boundaries and Eligibility Policy:
The goal of this policy is to give priority to local kids that want to participate in La Jolla Pop Warner. Players outside our boundaries have the option to play in their local league and are encouraged to pursue that venue first.

  1. LJPW is a league open to eligible kids that live within our boundaries which include the following ZIP Codes: 92037, 92038, 92039, 92092, 92093, 92109, 92117, 92122, 92121.
  2. Football players and cheerleaders outside of these boundaries are welcome to register but will not be drafted onto a team until all local players are placed on teams and they will be required to complete a Boundary Waiver and have it approved.
  3. The only exception is grandfathered players (e.g. returning players outside our boundaries on a LJPW certified roster from the previous year).

Equipment Policy:
LJPW Equipment can only be used during sanctioned Pop Warner events. Football camps, private lessons and parties (to name a few) are not sanctioned events and are not covered under the Pop Warner insurance policy. We will not, and can not, supply any equipment for football camps, private lessons, parties or any other non sanctioned Pop Warner event. Any individuals who use LJPW equipment in such fashion shall be held 100% liable for any and all injuries and damages. Failure to return equipment and or uniforms will result in a $250 charge.

Registration Paperwork Deadline Policy:
The final deadline to receive ALL paperwork is July 15th, 2007. Refer to the Registration Checklist above for a list of required paperwork. If we do not receive all paperwork and forms by the deadline we will remove the player from their team roster. The first wait-listed player (with completed paperwork) will be added to the roster. If no wait list exists then they can rejoin the team in the second week of practice, assuming all paperwork is received. Parents should contact the team coach to ensure their paperwork has been collected. Updated check lists will be sent to coaches the last three Mondays before first practice.

Adding players after the last registration and before the third week of practice:

  1. A player can join a team once all the paperwork has been passed in to LJPW
  2. The physical must be signed before beginning conditioning
  3. The player must be approved to practice by LJPW - not the coaching staff
  4. The player can then begin 5 days of conditioning before playing in any games
  5. The revised roster will need to be signed by conference before playing in any games.

Grievance Policy:
Any interested party, who wishes to address a concern or file a grievance with the Board of Directors, must do so in writing within 10 days of the issue. The complaint should be mailed to

LJPW - Grievance
P.O. Box 992
La Jolla, CA 92038

SCHOLASTIC FITNESS: THE NATIONAL POLICY
Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. (PWLS) is the only national youth sports organization in America that requires its participants to perform adequately in the classroom before permitting them to play. They believe that these standards give children a sense of responsibility and an appreciation for academics and athletics that will help them develop later on in life.

Proof of satisfactory progress in school is required. A 2.0/70% or the equivalent shall be the minimum grade point average acceptable to participate. In cases of doubt or conflict of opinion, a written statement by the school administration shall be deemed final.
