  Welcome

THE "JACKATTACK" HAS TAKEN A BREAK

The JACKS season has indeed ended earlier than expected. We had a promising season ahead of us this year, but it was not meant to be.

I want to thank all those who have supported the JACKS these past 5 years. We could not have done it with you.

To all my players ...I wish you the best of luck and much success this season. I look forward to watching you play with your new teams.

JACKS START 2004 WITH 2ND PLACE FINISH

image_name2
The JACKS kicked off the year and the rust with a 2nd place finish in the Early Bird Shoot Out in Grand Prairie. Winning 7 games while giving up 3 losses. The JACKS faced off twice against a tough Texas Sox team. The first time in bracket play which sent the JACKS into the losers bracket, then again in the championship match. Both times the JACKS came up on the short end of the stick. Our sincere congrats to the Sox!!! They played hard and earned the win. Overall it was a good tournament and a great practice experience.   Our team also played hard, playing 10 games in two days. This was the kind of work our team needed to get tuned up for New Bransfels. Once we start firing on all cylinders we should be able to accomplish some great things this year. Team: Offensive MVP - Erica LeFlore...Defensive MVP - Kristy Smith

We also want to thank Megan Mitchell and Kali Johnson for picking up with us. You girls did an super job and your attitudes are second to none. Both of you helped make this a great weekend. Thanks Coach D'

Simply AWESOME!!!   What a tournament and what a show of teamwork. Undefeated in 7 games. First time in two years the JACKS have went wire to wire to win a tournament.   Super job ladies. Parents, we witnessed a team maturing right in front of our eyes. We played the best teams the tournament had to offer and the JACKS were the last ones standing in the end. We scored 37 runs, compared to the 7 of the opposition. Great defense, good pitching, and outstanding offensive production were the key reasons we were the team to beat this weekend.   Congrats...once again to Marci and Erica for hitting their first home runs over the fence. Including two by Marci, with the first one being a Grand Slam. I am very proud of the team and your individual accomplishments!

3rd USSSA 13U World Series

We came home with a 3rd place finish in St. Louis. Not exactly what we wanted, but not bad considering the competition. The JACKS ran into a tough Nebraska Stars team. A team that our girls just simply found very difficult to beat. Three of our losses were to the Stars. The Stars went on to win the tournament, with the Texas Travelers finishing 2nd.   We offer our sincere Congrats to both of them for their accomplisments. Our girls defeated teams from Ohio, Oklahoma, and Texas. We had a great time in St. Louis. Our hotel stay was second to none.   Even though the tournament was a little disappointing, the trip itself was an enjoyable experience. Great Tournament and Great Season JACKS!!!   We should be awesome in 2004!

USSSA 13U World Series

Well, its the end of the summer and that means its "Nationals" time. This year the JACKS will participate in the USSSA 13U A World Series in St. Louis.   The girls have played solid competition all year...playing 14U A tournaments, high school league, then wrapping up competing against 16U girls. With the experience gained this year the girls are more than ready to take on competition there own age. But, with 7 out of 11 girls entering the 7th and 8th grade, this team is still younger than most of its competition. This team has worked hard to come together as a team and that is our strength. Our season started back in January and all year we have made progress....no roller coaster rides...just solid progress each week, tournament, and month. I am extremely satisfied with what this team has accomplished and I look forward to the team's future sucess.   Very few teams can go through the season and not be exempt from some type of turmoil. Yea, there are always parents with some misunderstandings, but for the most part we have been very blessed to not have any major issues or problems.   This has been by far the most rewarding and trouble-free season for the JACKS. And I credit that to the support of our parents and the attitude of our kids. I give all of you my heartfelt thanks and appreciation. So regardless of what we do in St. Louis,...this season has been fun and nothing will change my opinion of how this team has performed this season. I am proud of each and everyone of you.   Coach Donnie

JACKATTACK Captures 3rd place 16B STATE

image_name2
The JACKS prepared for Nationals by taking on older competition in the USSSA 16B State tournament held in Garland. 24 teams competed in the tournament. Out of 9 games the JACKS were only defeated by one team. Losing twice to the 14U A Mt. Pleasant FireStix twice by the scores of 4-2 and 2-1. With the later game being the highlight of the tournament. As the FireStix came back to win scoring two runs in the final inning then prevented a fierce comeback form the home team JACKS. Offensively, the girls played one of their best tournaments. The Defense came to play too as several great plays were made in the field. The tournament provided our team exactly what it needed in order to make a solid run at the National USSSA title.

What a weekend. The JACKS came away with a third place finish after dropping its first two bracket games. Winning 5 games in a row before running out of gas in the semi-finals. 10 games were played in all with the JACKS winning 6 games and losing 4. The JACKATTACK will tune up with one more STATE tournament in Garland, July 11 (16U "B") in preparations for 13U A World Series which will be held in St. Louis.

LCFPA - HIGH SCHOOL CHAMPS

image_name2
The JACKS completed league play with an 8-2 record which was good enough to take the league championship. The girls were more than capable of competing against older competition and it showed. The high school league provided the confidence this team needed to realize ...they can take on competition that is much larger in stature. Bunting, base stealing, sacrificing, pickoff plays, among other skills were worked on while participating against more mature players.   This was a great experience for our girls and to be declared the league champs is icing on the cake. Super job and Congrats JACKS!!!

JACKS Surrender in HOF

The JACKS surrendered leads in 3 straight games to bow out of the Hall of Fame Qualifier held in Mesquite. After losing 3-0 to a potent Houston Fireballs team to open pool play ...the JACKS jumped out to solid leads on their next three opponents before costly errors proved to be too much for the girls to overcome. Our young team more than competed in every game, but one bad inning in each game sealed the girls fate. Next up...Lufkin.

TEXAS GIANT NIT - CHAMPIONS!

image_name2
The JACKS clawed their way to the championship by winning six games in a row after dropping down into the losers bracket on Sunday morning. The team played as a team and everyone contributed to the winning effort. Our offense manuafactured runs when needed and our pitching and defense kept the others teams in check. This team just took a another step towards becoming a great team.   We have been getting better with each game and the seeing the progress being made by each player is very encouraging as a coach.   Parents your enthusiasm and support was awesome throughout the day and especially in that final game.   Thanks for your support. It made a difference. Great job ladies!!!

3rd place
3rd Place Finish - in White Settlement

Tough games!!! I could stop there and that would summarize our experience in White Settlement.   5 out of 6 games were all decided by 1 run. The girls simply played tough through out the day on Saturday and on Sunday as well. Our team is definitely getting the experience it needs to handle pressure situations. Improvement is taking place in each practice and in each game played.   And as a coach that is all you can ask for.   I can honestly say I was as proud of our play in this tournament as compared to any other I have been apart of. Our team has yet to fire on all cylinders offensively. And when we do our opponents need to look out... Parents and assistants I appreciate your support. Our last game got a little heated and emotional. Sometimes that happens when you care so much for the team ...and for each baserunner that gets a shot a scoring. Parents encourage your players to keep focused, but try not to put anymore pressure on your kids...if possible.   They are all trying hard and none of them wants to disappoint you or me.   Just a gentle reminder as we attempt to coach our own kids(after the game).

2nd
JACKS PLAY TOUGH IN mini TOURNAMENT

An interesting weekend in Cedar Hill for our fourth tourney of the season...if you want to call it a tournament...against two teams ...the Texas Travelers and the San Antonio Nightmares. The Nightmares were a 12U team that played tough but posed no real threat to the JACKS. But, the real story was the 3 one run games against the Travelers. Our girls were well positiioned to win all three games. But, unfortunately we stranded numerous runners on base, along with some untimely errors, which proved to be the difference in all three ball games.   Some of the key highlights of the tournament were; triples by Kelsey, Michelle, and Erica; several members of the opposition were thrown out on the base paths, including our newest play the "short cut" which was executed to perfection by Erica and Rae.   We played hard and tough...and most of all had a good time, ....despite dropping 3 games to the same team.   The experience gained will serve us well in the coming weeks. Great job ladies.
For what its worth ...the 2nd place finish did earn us a spot at the AFA Nationals.

White Settlement Tournament

Our third tournament of the season was a little disappointing. We had a tough draw in bracket play and it proved to be too much as we dropped two bracket games in a row...to two very good teams. Our young team did manage to improve offensively, hitting for over .400 against some good pitching.   If we can continue to produce offensively, then I am confident we will continue to make progress towards becoming a solid team by the end of the summer.   Once again our team attitudes were great....and the chemistry of this team is simply the best. The offensive improvement is really encouraging and what that should tell us ...is if we work hard toward something we can get better.   So this week in practice we will focus on our defensive breakdowns and try to make some positive strides towards becoming a better defensive team.

JACKS UPENDED IN ROWLETT

What a great weekend for softball. The weather was great and our girls got some good work in as we played 5 games on Saturday before running out of gas to the eventual tournament champs the Mt. Pleasant FireStix.   We played tough all day. We had very few errors to go with some solid pitching. All in all it was a good experience. Not necessarily the outcome we wanted, but we saw some girls show improvement in several areas and that is what counts. The game against the Pro Stars was a memorable one. We lost 1-0 in front of a host of onlookers as Brittany Benedict for the Pro Stars and our own Marci battled it out on the mound in a fierce pitching duel.   Hits were few and the tension was high. The game could have gone either way. Just wasn't our night. I think our girls spent alot of energy in that game, because we came out flat in the night cap. We stayed with the FireStix from Mt. Pleasant for 4 innings before the wheels fell off. ...that is going to happen from time to time.
We want to thank Sam Stampley for helping us out. She did a great job for us at third and led the team offensively. Great job Sam! In closing, we had another good weekend with a super team spirit and attitude.   I am proud of our girls and the way they play together. Eventually, that will translate into "wins"...we just have to be patient. Thanks parents for your support! Coach D'

Scrimmage - Texas Sox

We want to thank the 16U Texas Sox organization for scrimmaging us this past weekend. We were able to get some quality practice time, then proceeded to play a tough scrimmage against a very good opponent. The JACKS dropped the decision, losing 2-0, but the girls played well enough to compete.   Stringing hits together ...along with scoring was definitely a challenge for us. But we did manage to get a few runners on, unfortunately we could not get them across the plate. Our pitchers did a fine job holding their offense in check and our defenese did a good job in getting outs when needed. The was a good tune up for us, as we get ready to tackle our second tournament of the season. Super job girls.   ....you look good in your new helmets!!!

JACKS TAKE 5TH at MEAGAN REYNAEART TOURNAMENT

The JACKS took 5th in their first tournament of the year(out of 11 teams). Not bad considering this is a new team... and not to mention a young team.   The JACKS were displaced by the Texas Glory organization losing 1-0 to end our hopes of marching through the losers bracket.   Despite the disappointing loss, much encouragement was obtained. The bottom of our batting order produced more than the top of our roster, which is a very good sign.   Pitching, catching, and defense was solid with no errors. The only short coming was a HR run hit by the lead off batter to start the game.   Take that one run away and we played them toe to toe. We had our opportunities and the girls took the Glory down to the wire....we just came up a little short.   Great Job girls...I am proud of each and everyone of you.   We have a tremendous upside and once we get things going, we will be a tough team to contend with.

Parents...thanks for your support and assistance. And again thanks to those who attempted to make the Sunday service.   Pastor Scroggins left us a nice note in our guest book.   Please take a moment to check it out and if you feel inclined...leave a word of encouragement for the girls. Pastor Scroggins was really appreciative of our support and I want to thank Mark Blackford (the tournament director) for honoring my Sunday morning request. Our sportsmanship was noted by others....therefore lets continue to make it a priority to set and demonstrate a good example to others on how to win and lose in this game we call ...softball. This is what really counts in the end!

This team has been a very enjoyable group of girls to coach.   I am very anxious to see each one of our girls improve and to see our team be successful.   They're focus and attitude continue to be the strength of this team.   Lets build on that and keeping working hard ...because great things are around the corner.

Great job JACKS on an outstanding weekend in Grand Prairie.   Our first tournament win of the season. The JACK ATTACK was in full force as we finally got some key hits in key situations.   A big THANKS to Rachell Skaggs for picking up with us. She did a great job in the lead off position. Valerie, Brianne, Sarah, Catlyn, and Jill all great performances at the plate. Cheyenne did a good job behind the plate in providing some catching relief for Brianne.   Jana and Casie made some awesome plays at short, along with Koree and Michelle making some key defensive stops in the outfield. Rachell and Monica assumed the majority of the pitching assignments. Both doing a fine job.   We need good practices this week as we tune up for the BIG girls (14U) this weekend in Mesquite.   Way to BE SOMEBODY...JACKS!!!

2nd
JACKS take 2nd - McKinney NSA State/National Qualifier

The JACKS earned an NSA National berth by placing 2nd among a field of 15 teams. This was the JACKS second 2ND place finish in as many tournaments this year.   On their journey to the championship game the JACKS lost a third round game which put them in the "long-road" bracket, but the JACKS responded with 3 straight wins in order to secure a championship face off with a familiar foe ...Texas Glory Gold.   The JACKS surrendered the championship to the Gold by the score of 4-1.   Casie Campanello came away with Offensive MVP honors. Her highlight moment was a deep homerun to help seal the victory over the Texas Sox in the semifinal round. Monica Davis received the defensive MVP award primary on a solid pitching performance during the tournament, along with several defensive stops.   Jana Deen was also in a tight race for Defensive MVP honors as well. She made many key defensive plays, highlighted by a fakey play in the Texas Glory Angels game.   Every JACK contributed both on the field and in the batters box. Not "one" player stood out.   This was truly a team effort.   Each game was played with a different defensive line up and the girls responded well. Which means we are going to have a very versatile roster come summer.   Great job girls!!! Now lets get excited about taking our game to the next level. Coach D'

2nd
NSA World Series Qualifier - 2/23-24/02

image_name2
The JACKS played their first tournament of 2002 and came away with a 2nd place finish. This is a great start to a promising season. The girls started out a little slow in pool play and then played very tough in the 3 bracket games on Saturday to get into the championship undefeated. Unfortunately, the JACKS fell pretty hard to a very good Texas Glory team.   With Texas Glory handing the JACKS two losses back to back to claim the championship.   It was a good experience for our team, because it showed where we needed more practice. It was also good for us just to make it into championship play ...in our first tournament. All in all, we should be very pleased with our effort....but more importantly our potential. Once we start hitting the ball like we are capable, games like the ones on Sunday should not happen as often.   Great job JACKS!

JACKS Scrimmage

This past Tuesday, the JACKS partcipated in their first scrimmage of 2002, against the Lady Diamondbacks.   The night air was cold and so were our bats.   This scrimmage had little offensive production as neither team responded very well at the plate. The game was highlighted by a HR blast to deep left field by Casie Campanello. Both pitchers, Janna Dean and Monica Davis did an admirable job on the mound, holding the Diamondbacks to one run in four innings of play.

3rd Place Finish for JACKS in First "A" Tournament

This past weekend the JACKS played in the First Annual All Nighter in Grand Prairie.   This was also the JACKS for "A" tournament. Both coaches and players were a little concerned about how they would fare against much more skilled teams. But as it turns out the JACKS were very capable of competing with the "A" caliber competition.   Even though the JACKS dropped all 3 games Saturday morning, we left that morning, knowing that the girls could play with the majority of the "A" teams. Which they proved in upsetting Top Gun in their first game on Sunday morning. Then went on to beat Texas Glory Blue and the Forney based Texas Blues to advance to the semi-final round.   In the semi's, the JACKS were tired from playing all night, plus they had to face a Texas Glory Gold team that had beaten them 20-5 the night before in a pool game. The JACKS dropped the semi-final game to Texas Glory Gold by the score of 11-3.   But, this did not dampen the spirits of the JACKS as they left with a third place finish.   This was a remarkable showing by this group of girls. Hopefully, this tournament served as a tune-up for Dallas Metro. Another Great Job Girls !!!

JACKS 2ND LEAGUE 2001
MESQUITE LEAGUE - "JACKS" Finish Season in 2nd Place

The JACKS closed out the Spring 2001 Mesquite FastPitch 12U AA Season with 11-3 victory over the Gators. The win secured a second place finish.   Which is a position the JACKS are familiar with.   The JACKS have finished in 2nd or better in three tournaments this year.

The girls will play their first "A" tournament this weekend in Grand Prairie.    Then they will finish up tourament play next week with the Dallas Metro tournament.

Great Job JACKS ....you've had an OUTSTANDING Season!!!

2nd
JACKS Settle for 2nd in Mesquite Tournament

The Lady "JACKS" placed 2nd in the Mesquite 12U "B" Tournament held June 8,9, and 10th. It was another heartbreaking championship game as the JACKS gave up a 9-6 lead, needing only two outs to secure the victory.   But, they were unable to do so giving up 4 runs before surrendering the game 10-9 to the Deport,Texas Tuff-E-Nuff.    Great game and congratulations to Tuff-E-Nuff.

2nd
JACKS TAKE 2ND in MEMORIAL DAY INVITATIONAL

The Lady"JACKS" lost a heartbreaker to NXS (of Midland,TX) 9-6, after playing 8 eight games (basically) in row to make into the championship round.   The tournament was held in Irving and consisted of teams from the Midland, Denton, Arlington, Rockwall, and Irving areas. The JACKS have now improved their record to 25-10-2.

1sr.gif.gif
JACKS WIN USSSA World Qualifier - Grand Prairie

The Lady "JACKS" won their first tournament of the season, along with securing a berth into the USSSA World Tournament held in Charolette, North Carolina in July, and the State tournament held in Garland, which is also in July.   The JACKS got to the championship by playing the minimum number of games, going undefeated in bracket play.   In the championship game the JACKS played the Eliminators from Ennis, a team who had beaten them previously in a practice game by the score of 13-0.   Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, the JACKS also drew them in the opening round of bracket play and came from behind to take the win, by the score of 7-4. The Eliminators worked their way up through the losers bracket eyeing a possible rematch with the JACKS. The Eliminators got their wish by polishing off the Aledo Cruisers in the semi-finals, to advanced to the championship, thus taking on the "HOT" JACKS from Forney.   But the JACKS were just too much for the Eliminators on this day, as the JACKS won by the score of 13-7.

See Game Summary for complete update.

Every girl contributed Saturday as we unveiled our new look along with our new team.   The girls jumped out of the starting blocks quick....both offensively and defensively. They produced several HR's. Probably bunted more than any team within the tourament. Executed some slap bunts, not to mention a squeeze play. And our defensive play was fairly consistent through out the day.   The coaches are very proud of our team and it's effort. We have a talented group of girls and I look forward to their improvements and accomplishments this season.

Next up is the Hurst Tournament this weekend. We have the potential to go deep into this tournament as well. Keeping our focus, staying confident, and above all promoting positive thinking, will allow our team to exceed our expectations.

On Saturday, we as coaches, targeted certain positions to look at, and the performance of the girls who played those positioins.   In this next tournament we will do more of the same. Positions will be earned, not given. Effort and attitude will be rewarded.   Parents please keep this in mind as you discuss/encourage your child about their performance, as well as the performance of the team and coaches.

If anyone wonders if we are going to continue to be aggressive on the base paths....the answer is YES!!!! I know we had (if I recall) 5 girls thrown out Saturday.   This was in part due to base running mechanics that we have not had a chance to work on, hesitation, lack of agressiveness, vague base running signals on my part, and at times the girls not listening.   All of which can be corrected,...but none of which is going to force us to become conservative.   So get ready ....were RUNNIN!!!
