2008 SENIORS WITH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY

      
GREENWOOD FASTPITCH.....A WINNING TRADITION

Home of 12 District Titles, 8 Regional Championships, a 1997 State Runner-Up, a 2003 3rd Place finish, a 2006 5th place finish, a 2007 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP and now a 2008 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ............BACK 2 BACK STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS !!!!! All since Kentucky went to Fastpitch in 1995.

After this STATE CHAMPIONSHIP 2008 Season, the overall Greenwood Fastpitch Softball record is 416-104-1.....making us the 4th most winning team in the state of Kentucky !!!!!!

The Greenwood HS Athletic Awards Committee is very proud to announce the retirement of Rachel Riley's jersey after her dedication to the Lady Gator Softball program for seven years (2002-2008).

Rachel Riley was named MVP for the second straight state championship - joining her on the All-Tournament Team were Lindsey Green,Amanda Walden and Laura Smith. Whitnee Lee received the Sportmanship Award.

The Lady Gators, coming into the state tournament with a record of 35-5 and ranked #1 in the state, defeated Christian Co., Louisville Butler, North Laurel, and Scott Co. to meet Ryle in the championship game. The final score was 4-0 and they finish the season with a 40-5 record. As a reflection of the post-season motto and team play....you can definitely say they Lady Gators "Turned it On !!!!"

Rachel Riley was named MVP....joining her on the All-Tournament team were Elizabeth Ferrell, Amanda Walden, Chelsea Birchell and Lindsey Green (sportsmanship award).

2007 4TH REGION CHAMPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Lady Gators defeated Allen Co. Scottsville 7-3 in the finals to capture the 2007 4th Region Crown. Rachel Riley was named the Tournament MVP - joining her on the All-Tournament Team were Elizabeth Ferrell, Lindsey Green, Jessie Dunning and Amanda Walden.

Greenwood is the 2007 14th District Champion!!!! They defeated Warren Central 10-0 and Warren East 3-0 in the finals. The Tournament MVP was Rachel Riley and joining her on the All-Tournament Team were Jessie Dunning, Lindsey Green, Whitnee Lee and Elizabeth Ferrell.

Juniors Amanda Walden and Laura Smith have been chosen to play for the Kentucky Jr. West All-Stars June 15-17 in Lexington - congratulations girls!

The 2007 Team Motto is .......

The always tough schedule is set and with the graduation of only two seniors and six returning starters, this season's goal is nothing short of a return to the state tournament and a chance to finally bring home a state championship.

The 2006 Lady Gators finished with a 34-8-1 overall record. The regular season ended at 27-6-1, including going 6-0 in regular season district games with Warren East, Warren Central and Bowling Green.

With a 7-0 win over Warren Central in the semifinals and then a 6-0 win over Bowling Green in the final game, the Lady Gators won their tenth District Title in twelve years. Named to the All-Tournament team were Brittany York, Rachel Riley, Laura Smith and Amanda Walden. Catcher Lindsey Green was named MVP of the tourney for her outstanding steady defensive play behind the plate and her offensive output.

In the 2006 Regional Tournament at WKU, Greenwood picked up wins over Barren Co. and Logan Co. to set up a rematch with Allen Co. Scottsville in the finals. The Lady Gators were victorious 2-0. Named to the All-Tournament team were Brittany York, Rachel Riley, and Lindsey Green. Sophomore Amanda Walden was named MVP of the regional tourney for her outstanding defensive effort at shortstop, as well as having several key hits during the tourney.

The Lady Gators took their 32-6-1 record into state play in Jeffersontown June 9-10, where they defeated George Rogers Clark and Woodford Co., but lost to North Hardin and Owensboro Catholic (both 3-2 losses) to finish in 5th place and end the season at 34-8-1.

2006 Kentucky Miss Softball: Brittany York (#8 Jersey retired at end of season)

Selected to the 2006 Kentucky Senior West All-Stars was Brittany York. Junior Richi Njoku will play for the West Juniors. Congrats girls and good luck June 16-18 in Lexington.

2006 Senior Brittany York has signed to play her college softball with the University of Louisville. After an outstanding career as a Lady Gator, we wish her the best of luck as she will be "Living the Dream" of playing at the collegiate level

The 2005 Lady Gator Team finished with a 28-8 record....14th District Regular Season Champs, 14th District Tournament Champions and 4th Region Runner-Up

The 2004 Lady Gators finish the season with a 24-8 record....14th District Regular Season Champions, 14th District Tournament Champions and a 4th Region Semi-Finalist

2004 Region 4 Seasonal Team included: First Team...Brittany York (Pitcher) and Rachel Riley (Second Base)....Second Team was Laura Smith (Outfield) and Honorable Mention was Elizabeth Ferrell (Third Base).

2004 1st Team All-State (Class 3A)...Brittany York

Former Greenwood Lady Gator All-State pitcher Kristy Hall Julian (1995-1997), was inducted into the Kentucky Prep Softball Hall of Fame on June 19, 2004 at a banquet in Lexington. She had a compiled record of 55-14 and a .68 ERA She was twice named Regional Tournament MVP and she led Greenwood to a 1997 State Runner-Up finish. She went on to play college softball at Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro. Hall is the first Lady Gator to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. She was nominated by her former coach Penny Reece, who also was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001.

The Greenwood Lady Gators were 2003 14th District and 4th Region Champions!!!!!!
The Lady Gators finished in 3rd Place at the 2003 Kentucky State Tournament. They went 5-2, defeating Russell, Murray, North Laurel, Hopkins Co. Central and Franklin Co. Their final loss came to eventual champion Owensboro Catholic. The Lady Gators finished the 2003 season with a record of 34-7.

Greenwood was led by six very talented seniors this season....the "Original Babies" Shannon Murl, Kathy Church, Andrea Fitzpatrick, Tiffany Evans and Jessica Mustread....who have been Lady Gators since their seventh grade year...and transfer Jenna Lee from Collierville, TN.

Other members of the 2003 Varsity Squad were: Brittany York, Stephanie Sanders, Elizabeth Ferrell, Makayla Hazel, Holli Parys,Angela Kitchens, Rachel Riley, Jessie Dunning, Amanda Walden, and Brittany Evans.
Coaches include Head Coach Penny Reece and assistants Dusty Croft, Mary Dales and Rita Welch.
