The Greensboro Lady Gaters would like to welcome Steve Shelton to our organization.

Steve has a wonderful and experienced basketball background and has offered to train any of our girls who are interested in taking their game to the next level.  To contact Steve please call 665-5233 or email at steve@proehlificpark.com.

Steve Shelton comes to Proehlific Park from one of the most successful basketball programs in the state, Greensboro Day School. Serving as a varsity assistant to the all-time winningest private school (NCISAA) coach in North Carolina history, Freddy Johnson. Steve has been a part of five ('95, '96, '00, '02 & '06) NCISAA State Championship teams with the school.  Steve has also coached with the following organizations: AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) NC Gaters, and Chris Paul's organization (CP3 All-stars).

As a head coach Steve has had a successful career with the NC Gaters winning three NCAAU State Championships, a AAU National Championship and being recognized twice as the NC Gaters Coach of the Year. Steve was also the head coach of the 2007 NCAAU 15 & Under State Runners-Up in the first year of existence of Chris Paul’s AAU organization, CP3 All-Stars.  The team finished the season winning the 16 & Under National Youth Basketball Championship in Las Vegas, NV. Steve currently serves as an assistant coach of the 17 & Under CP3 All-Stars.

With over 15 years of experience in coaching high school basketball and individual instruction Steve’s passion for basketball is evident in those he works with:

"We need more coaches like Steve Shelton who teach the fundamentals of basketball. He has been with me for 15 seasons and I feel like I'm the luckiest person in the world to have someone as good as Steve Shelton on my staff. Steve's loyalty and devotion to his players enable each of them to successfully excel on and off the basketball court." Freddy Johnson, Greensboro Day School

"I played for Coach Shelton in AAU and high school and can honestly say that he was instrumental in helping me play at the highest level in college." Wes Miller, former UNC Basketball player; Coach at High Point University.

“I love the game of basketball.  I genuinely believe that basketball, as well as other athletics, gives us the opportunity to teach life lessons to young athletes that will be beneficial to their futures.  What’s more I enjoy the special relationships the game of basketball affords me to build.  Nothing is more gratifying than when I receive a phone call from a former player.” Steve Shelton
