Little League Baseball in District 1
The first recorded Little League Baseball charters in the state were recorded in 1953.  In that year there were 3 leagues that chartered one in Alexandria, one in Jeanerette and at the same time another in Lake Charles the league today presently known as “Mid City Little League”.  As time progressed under the leadership of Jack Bass the first DA more and more teams joined the program in 1974 the state had grown enough to divide into two districts after the split District 1 had a make up of 9 Leagues covering the Southwestern part of the state.  Later the state grew and another district was added making it 3 Districts and then again the northern part of the state divided to make it 4 Districts.  The leagues in District 1 remain the same until 1998 when Cameron LL and Grand Lake LL joined the district making it 11 Leagues.  In 2000 the state again split from 4 districts to 6.  District 1 gave up 5 leagues which are now part of District 6.  After the split we again added three new leagues bring us up to 9, today we stand at 6 leagues.

District 1’s present leagues, first president and when chartered.
Jeanerette LL -         1st Pres. - R.J. Banta - Chartered 1953
New Iberia LL -          1st Pres. - Edward Broussard - Chartered 1962
Evangeline LL -          1st Pres. - Ted Haik - Chartered 1962 as Teche LL
Lafayette LL -            1st Pres. - M.P. Guirovich - Chartered 1972

Through out the season
our leagues play special games among the other leagues in the District. Where leagues are small we inter-league teams for district and host post season District TOC Tournaments for kids that don’t make the International Post Season Tournament Teams.
 Just for FUN...
