2010 JUNIOR UMPIRE PROGRAM We are pleased to continue our "Junior Umpire Program". This program will allow those kids ages 12+ the opportunity to umpire games in LRLL. The junior umpires have the same opportunity to earn points for their teams as our regular volunteer adult umpires. This is a great opportunity for kids in high school to earn "community service" time. Please contact John Yots @ jyotsjr@cox.net if you have interest in learning more about the program.
Back in Black
2010 LRLL Umpire Uniform!!! ALL UMPIRES will be issued a BLACK umpire shirt and a BLACK umpire cap with our traditional LR logo. Please wear a BLACK t-shirt under your umpire shirt, as well as Charcoal grey slacks. Black socks, Black Belt and black shoes are also suggested. Information on purchasing umpire slacks can be found by contacting Brad Merda or John Yots.
Please do not look like this!!! Our kids deserve more.

To recognize the efforts of our volunteer umpires, a point system was developed. Umpiring behind the plate in a Juniors game carries a higher point value than the plate for a Majors game and so on. It works like this:
- Seniors/Juniors Plate (6); Seniors/Juniors Base (5)
- Majors or AAA Plate (5); Majors or AAA Base (4)
- AA Plate (4); AA Base (3)
- A Plate (3) A base (2) This for Jr. Umps only
Team must reach the following point totals:
- Junior/Majors/AAA - 35 points 1st Half & 35 points 2nd Half
- AA - 15 points in both 1st & 2nd Half
- A - 9 points in both 1st & 2nd Half.
Being an umpire is one of the toughest volunteer jobs in all of youth sports. Safe or Out has to be determined in a split second and even the paid professionals make mistakes. Every call made is good news for one team and bad news for the other. Umpires call it as they see it. When you get the opportunity, take a moment to thank the "man in blue" for the time he or she has volunteered to support our league.
