Laconia Wrestling: News

Thanks for all our member support on our pizza fundraiser.  After all our expenses we cleared over $3000!!!  Way to go TEAM!

 Hello AGAIN wrestling families!

In our rapidly changing world, we often have to adjust at a moment's notice...
This is one of those times. But it's good news!

First of all, we have made a change to our youth practice schedule. We discovered that a number (a higher number than we'd like) of youth practices would be cancelled on Monday nights, due to the unavailability of the Laconia High School. Therefore, we managed to secure the Rosendale Primary School for Monday night youth practices. The time will remain the same; 6:00-7:30pm. That being said, our club meeting that is being held at 6:15pm next Monday will be at Rosendale Primary (during practice). The only Monday the Primary school was not available through the end of March was Monday, January 23- so there will be no practice that night. So to recap...

Monday night youth practices at Rosendale Primary (no practice Jan. 23rd)
Wednesday night youth practices at Laconia

As always, continue to monitor the club website- www.laconiawrestlinglcub.com - for information.
Just another reminder, group one practices are run from 6:00-7:00. We will try to do a better job sticking to that. (The coaches just love to watch those "new recruits" enjoying the sport!)

Our next big change is insurance. I'm sure I don't need to explain to everyone why in this day and age insurance is a must. We have been investigating this topic for some time now, and have decided that our best route (based on cost and coverage for our wrestlers) is USA Sanctioned Wrestling. This will mean some changes for our wrestlers- but again, GOOD changes!

The cost of a USA card is in the ballpark of $35 per wrestler. The Wrestling Club is paying for every wrestler to have the card. This way, every wrestler in our club that steps on a mat anywhere; for practices, or tournaments, or the like, is insured. Our coaches, board members, high school wrestlers, etc... all insured! So at the very next practice, we will be asking every wrestling parent to fill out the brief form for their child. (That's the not-so-good news) Here's more good news...

You will not need to pay! The Wrestling Club is covering the cost of every person's USA card (as well as the cost of t-shirts, posters, tournament entries, etc.) and we are keeping the registration fee at $0. With that begin said, we do want to emphasize the importance of giving it your best shot in finishing out the season. We have always encouraged people to come and give it a try, just to see if they like it. We STILL feel that way, and we do encourage that. We are just hoping that even if your child decides they don't want to attend any tournaments, and they probably aren't going to sign up again next year, (but, really, who doesn't love it?) we would really like to see them attend practices for as long as possible.

Also, this new insurance put us in the position of having to keep the very young little brothers and sisters who want to roll around during practice a little bit too, off the mat. That's something we're sorry we will have to give up, but they do need to be registered to be wrestling around during practices.

Having the USA card does open some doors for our wrestlers, and it does mean some small changes to our own youth tournament. We will address all of those things at the next club meeting... Monday, Jan. 16th at the Rosendale Primary School. This meeting will also address other questions that are common for new wrestling families. SO PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND THIS MEETING!

Thank you all for your flexibility this year so far! I have the feeling this is going to be ANOTHER great year for our wrestling family.
Make sure to keep checking the website (www.laconiawrestlingclub.com) for updates... high school matches, youth tournaments, family night, weather cancellations, pictures, and more!

Peace-
