2004 Ky Fastpitch State Tournament
Region 13 can be proud of the showing put on by the Region 13 Representative: Middlesboro Lady Jackets! The Lady Jackets closed out their 2004 season by finishing 4th in the state at the State Tourney at Owensboro on June 11 and 12. Middlesboro drew a tough bracket and persevered far and deep into the major meat of one of the toughest state tourneys in recent history. Middlesboro defeated Russell (Region 16) in the first round and Butler of Louisville in the second round of the winners bracket before losing their first game in the Winner's bracket Friday night to powerhouse Owensboro Catholic, the hometown favorite of the tourney. Saturday morning was a fresh start, as Middlesboro defeated Shelby County. After storms passed through and games were held up for awhile, the Lady Jackets were defeated by an awesome Storm, the Hopkins County Central Storm. HCC were defeated by Owensboro Lady Aces in their next game. Calloway County defeated the Lady Aces in the last winners' bracket game. Their second game of the night saw Calloway use some important strategy and pitch a different pitcher. Calloway Co lost their second game to Owensboro by a large margin, but their strategy paid off. Calloway County defeated the Lady Aces in the final game to hold on and become the 2004 State Champions. Calloway County was not listed in the top 25 Coach's Poll for this season. Just shows that anybody can beat anybody at any time!! Congrats Calloway County on downing the Big Goliath!!
