The David Chalmer Bailey ’02 Scholarship

The David Chalmer Bailey ’02 Scholarship

In addition to the 8 new scholarships, one existing scholarship is available. The David Chalmer Bailey ’02 Scholarship was established in honor of David Chalmer Bailey by his parents, aunt, and uncle. After graduating from Kutztown University in 2002 with a degree in Sociology, he traveled extensively teaching English and math for a year in South Korea, then taking trips through Argentina, Chile, Spain, Italy, and Romania. Because of his love of people and children, and his enthusiasm for rugby, the scholarship is to be awarded to a student majoring in sociology or social work who demonstrates a love of children and a fascination with people, has earned at least 30 credits, and is in good academic standing, regardless of financial need. Preference will be given to a student who participates in the Rugby Club.

The RP Fitness Scholarship

The RP Fitness Scholarship

The RP Fitness Scholarship is a way to recognize and reward those players that are dedicated to strength and conditioning as a participant with Kutztown University Rugby Club. This award has been created and is annually funded by two former KU rugby players, and administered by a former Kutztown alumni and a specialist in strength and conditioning and loyal supporter of KU Rugby. Two, One Thousand dollar scholarships will be awarded to two athletes, who demonstrate a commitment to a high level of Fitness for each of the, fall and Spring Seasons.

A preseason fitness program will be give to all players.  This program is designed for USA Rugby’s High performance athletes and allows for manipulation of several variables that prepares the athlete to "peak" just prior to the start of the season. The program will be divided into three sections: weight training, plyometrics, and conditioning. Combining these three components will improve the total athleticism of the team and allow us the opportunity for greater success on the pitch. The focus will be to improve: speed, acceleration, power, agility, strength, and quick responses. Testing of all KURFC athletes will begin during the third week of August for the Fall Season and Third week of November for spring season. The program will then be implemented and given to each player to complete on his own last week of June (Fall Season) and November (Spring Season). The results will determine award recipients with adjustments to reflect the appropriate benchmarks for the athlete’s size and position.

Eligibility and Criteria:

Recipients must be a full time Kutztown University student.

Recipients must be in good standing with the University

Recipients need to demonstrate at least a 2.5 GPA.
