The David Chalmer Bailey ’02 Scholarship
In addition to the 8 new scholarships, one existing scholarship is available. The David Chalmer Bailey ’02 Scholarship was established in honor of David Chalmer Bailey by his parents, aunt, and uncle. After graduating from Kutztown University in 2002 with a degree in Sociology, he traveled extensively teaching English and math for a year in South Korea, then taking trips through Argentina, Chile, Spain, Italy, and Romania. Because of his love of people and children, and his enthusiasm for rugby, the scholarship is to be awarded to a student majoring in sociology or social work who demonstrates a love of children and a fascination with people, has earned at least 30 credits, and is in good academic standing, regardless of financial need. Preference will be given to a student who participates in the Rugby Club.

KU Fallen Brothers Scholarship
The Kutztown Alumni Association is funding two, five hundred dollar scholarships to honor past players who are no longer with us. The first scholarship is named after former KU rugby player David Bailey, who played passed away in 2006. The award is named after David to honor all of the skills that he displayed both on and off the field. The second scholarship is named after former KU rugby player Robert P. Devitt Jr. The scholarship is named after Robert, AKA “Psycho” who had a passion for life both on and off the field. Robert passed away in the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center in 2001.
The RP Fitness Scholarship
The RP Fitness Scholarship
The RP Fitness Scholarship is a way to recognize and reward those players that are dedicated to strength and conditioning as a participant with Kutztown University Rugby Club. This award has been created and is annually funded by two former KU rugby players, and administered by a former Kutztown alumni and a specialist in strength and conditioning and loyal supporter of KU Rugby. Two, One Thousand dollar scholarships will be awarded to two athletes, who demonstrate a commitment to a high level of Fitness for each of the, fall and Spring Seasons.
A preseason fitness program will be give to all players. This program is designed for USA Rugby’s High performance athletes and allows for manipulation of several variables that prepares the athlete to "peak" just prior to the start of the season. The program will be divided into three sections: weight training, plyometrics, and conditioning. Combining these three components will improve the total athleticism of the team and allow us the opportunity for greater success on the pitch. The focus will be to improve: speed, acceleration, power, agility, strength, and quick responses. Testing of all KURFC athletes will begin during the third week of August for the Fall Season and Third week of November for spring season. The program will then be implemented and given to each player to complete on his own last week of June (Fall Season) and November (Spring Season). The results will determine award recipients with adjustments to reflect the appropriate benchmarks for the athlete’s size and position.
Eligibility and Criteria:
Recipients must be a full time Kutztown University student.
Recipients must be in good standing with the University
Recipients need to demonstrate at least a 2.5 GPA.
Recipients must consistently be selected for the A side.
Book Scholarships
KU Rubgy Book Scholarships
The there will be six, two hundred and fifty dollar academic scholarships per semester, used to buy books for student athletes who meet the academic criteria of a minimum 2.40 GPA. Jeff Reiss, Paul Presnizano, and Bill Watson ( All KU RUGBY Alum) will sponsor two of the scholarships and Dr. Gregg Jones, team coach and chiropractic physician and Dr. Joe Blasiol, D.O, team medical advisor, who has his own private practice, sponsors the other two.
