ASA 14U - 13TH PLACE FINISH The Krushers had a great week in Owensboro, Kentucky at the ASA Jr. Olympic Fastpitch National tournament. The team placed 13th out of 119 teams. It was a very respectable finish, amongst many solid ball clubs. For their first game, the Krushers faced 90 Texas Rage and won 6-2. In the next round, they played Georgia Starzz and defeated them 11-0. Sudden Impact from Texas faced off against the Krushers in the 3rd round. The Krushers bats were on fire and they sealed a 14-1 victory. On Friday, the Krushers met up with the Birmingham Vipers, whose pitcher threw a great game and whose bats were very hot, giving the Krushers their first loss, 7-1. Next up was Tuff-E-Nuff and the Krushers took care of business, winning the game 6-1. On Saturday, the team faced a long time cross town rival, the Scorpions. It was a pitchers duel, but the Scorpions came out on top, defeating the Krushers 1-0. All in all, it was a great showing for the Krushers. The girls played exceptional defense, the pitchers worked very hard and threw great, and the bats were hot for the majority of the week. As usual, the team had great fun off and on the ball field. The girls have exceptional chemistry and a love of the game. Congrats to the Krushers on a terrific showing in Kentucky!
After the Krushers finished 2nd in their pool on Saturday, with 2 wins and 1 tie, they began elimination play on Sunday. Their first win came against the Santa Clarita Shock and then TNL. After waiting 3 hours for an opponent in the championship game, the other team forfeited, resulting in a 1st place finish for the Krushers. Amy Moore was tournament MVP with many key hits and stellar defense at 1st base. Great job Krushers!
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE KRUSHERS!!! The Krushers 14U team brought home the GOLD this Sunday at the Colorado Fireworks tournament. It was a very successful week for our team and all players contributed to the big wins. The week started out with victories over Kansas Kommotion and TC Thunder from Utah in our first 2 practice games. On Wednesday, the team went on to defeat Xtreme '90 from Washington and Havok from Oklahoma. Both games were called to mercy rule. Again on Thursday, the Krushers mercied Texas Storm and Red Rockers Rattlers from Colorado, resulting in a first place seed in Pool 8. Our first elimination game was against Quicksilver, whom the Krushers beat 14-1. In the second elimination game, the Krushers defeated OC Dynasty in 3 short innings, 18-1. For the 3rd round of bracket play, the Krushers faced 1st seeded Indiana Shockwave from Pool 11. The team fell to an early 1-0 deficit but battled back to win 2-1. Next, the Krushers faced a very strong team, Sting Purple from San Jose. The Krushers battled from behind as well to win 4-2. For the 5th round of bracket play, the Krushers defeated San Diego Storm 3-0, which put the Krushers against Texas Rage on Sunday morning, the only 2 remaining undefeated teams. Unfortunately, the Rage jumped to an early lead and held on to a 4-0 win against the Krushers, sending the Krushers to the losers bracket. The Krushers proceeded to defeat Texas Gold 6-3 and then had to face Rage in a rematch. The Krushers answered the call and went on to win back to back games against Rage, 8-3 and 13-2. Congratulations to the Krushers and all of our opponents on a great tournament. The Krushers were sensational this past week. The team had 15 over the fence home runs. Nicole (25/47, 18 RBIs), Mackenzie (21/46, 13 RBIs), and Jesi (24/47, 26 RBIs) each had 4 home runs a piece and Brittany, Ali, and Jennifer each had 1. Christianne had 6 doubles and 10 RBIs and caught nearly every game, including pitch calling in pool play and a beautiful pick off at 3rd base against Rage in the championship "IF" game. Lani had 10 RBIs, all of which came in elimination bracket play. She also played outstanding defense at 2nd base, including several double plays. Destiny had 5 RBIs and she pitched a great tournament, with wins against Xtreme, Texas Storm, Shockwave, Dynasty, Sting, and Texas Rage. Jesi also contributed from the circle with wins against Havoc, Red Rockers Rattlers, San Diego Storm, Texas Gold, and Texas Rage. Nicole pitched a win against Quicksilver. Our outfield, Brittany, Ali, Mackenzie, and Heather, came up with several great plays. Brittany's diving catches against Shockwave solidified the victory. She also had 10 RBIs in the tournament. Ali scored 7 runs for the Krushers and Heather came through numerous times at the plate, including hits in 6 games and 6 RBIs. Jennifer and Amy had solid performances in the infield and both girls came up with huge hits for RBI's - Jennifer's biggest hits came against Sting (a double and a homerun, 2 RBIs) and Amy's came against Rage in the "IF" game, to give us the go ahead run and 2 more RBIs off a double. Together they combined for 19 hits and 10 RBIs. In all, the Krushers outscored their opponents 128-27 and had 8 mercy victories. It was an incredible offensive performance, combined with excellent defense and very tough pitching. Goal #3, realized. In addition, the Krushers won the cheer competition due to their rendition of "Batter Up" and a very funky stomp routine. The Krushers also adopted "Green Machine" for the adopt-a-team program and the two teams played some ball together, despite the rain, and got to know one another. We'd like to thank Brittany, Jake, and their family for coming to all of our games, dressed in orange and blue, and cheering us on. You kids were our good luck charms. In fact, the only game we lost, Brittany wasn't in our dugout! Thank you for supporting the Krushers and becoming part of our family. Please stay in touch. KRUSHERS QUALIFY FOR ASA NATIONALS At the Oklahoma Hall of Fame tournament in Oklahoma City, the Krushers fought for their berth to ASA Nationals. It wasn't easy. After losing their first game, the Krushers battled back through the losers bracket, winning Friday night, and 5 straight games on Saturday. Establishing a 4 run lead against the Birmingham Vipers, it looked like the Krushers would play off for 2nd and 3rd place. That would not be the case. In the 6th inning, the Vipers scored 4 of their own and beat the Krushers 5-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Krushers finished 4th, with a berth to Kentucky! Listed below are the game results:
The Krushers would like to thank Grandma Bessie Spigner and Grandpa Nathan Spigner for their love and support this weekend at Hall of Fame. We'd also like to thank Rico and Shavon for rooting the team on. The Spigners journeyed by car from St. Louis to Oklahoma City to get a real dose of girls fastpitch softball and to spend time with their family. In addition to representing 4 of our 6 fans in the bleachers, they cooked the girls a bar-b-que picnic lunch on Saturday after the first game. The food was delicious and provided much needed nourishment to sustain our girls for 4 straight games. We love you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being there for us, for believing in us, and for sharing the triumph with us. Hope to see you again soon!
At the Southern California ASA State tournament in Menifee, California, the Krushers finished respectably in 7th place, earning a bid to regionals in Santee, California, the weekend of July 8-11. 67 teams were in attendance, making this one of the largest tournaments in California. The girls played some great softball and were challenged by many excellent teams. Listed below are the results of the tournament: Krushers vs. Crunch: 4-1 Krushers vs. Renegades: 10-0 Krushers vs. American Pastime: 3-0 Krushers vs. USA Athletics: 1-3 Krushers vs. San Diego Storm: 4-2 Krushers vs. OC Panthers: 0-5 KRUSHERS QUALIFY FOR HALL OF FAME
In keeping with our goal to attend ASA Nationals, the Krushers trekked up to Northern California, Pleasanton to be exact, to play for a berth to Kentucky. The crazy thing is the Krushers departed for the tournament with 9 girls as 3 were still in CIF playoffs. The tournament format was double elimination, and the Krushers had no easy task ahead of them. 5 of 6 games were come from behind wins. 4 of the 5 wins occurred in either the 7th inning or international tie breaker. The K-9s never say die! Results of the tournament are listed below: 2005 RECORD 55 WINS 11 LOSSES 3 TIES 13 SHUTOUTS ARTESIA SUMMER SLAM CHAMPIONS COLORADO FIREWORKS CHAMPIONS HALL OF FAME QUALIFIER FINALIST HALL OF FAME OKC 4TH PLACE ASA STATE 7TH PLACE USSSA WINTER WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS TRIPLE CROWN HUNTINGTON BEACH FINALIST
