Women’s Self-Defense and Awareness Class
4 Week Program – March 4th 2009 through March 25th 2009
The Old Orchard Beach Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Koryo Karate School, is excited to announce a new program – Women’s Self-Defense and Awareness.
Introduction:
A program designed to give women a basic understanding of self-defense and awareness. The techniques and concepts are ones which can be used in your daily lives. This program is designed specifically for women, and no prior training in necessary.
Attire/Equipment:
Regular street clothes are worn, but they should be loose fitting and comfortable. *Jewelry (rings, watches, earrings, etc) should NOT be worn during the classes. No special equipment is necessary for this class. This class is designed for ages 15 & up.
Activities:
After a brief warm-up period, general concepts of self-defense will be covered in each class. Learning will be progressive, with each week building upon the previous weeks training. There will be drills done on padded equipment, to ensure the proper execution of the techniques. Many drills will be done with a partner, however, the speed and amount of force used will be minimal, as the purpose of the class is to learn the techniques.
Class Dates/Times:
Classes will be held at the Old Orchard Beach Recreation Center every Wednesday night for a 4 week period, starting on March 4th and ending on March 25th. Classes will run from 630pm – 730pm.
Class Size:
A minimum of 6 students are required, with a maximum of 20.
Fees:
Pre-registration is requested, although not required. The cost is $40, with checks being made payable to the Old Orchard Beach Recreation Department.
