Don't Wait To Be Asked.... Just Do It!
We all lead busy lives these days. We rush our kids to practices and games, etc. But let's not forget that Kennewick National is a volunteer organization. The $85 dues we pay are for protective equipment, umpires, utility bills, uniforms, etc. Every bit of work that goes on down at the KN facilities is done by volunteers that have, like you, paid the $85 to have their child play in the league.
KN has a lot to be proud of as a league. We have a pretty solid reputation with the community and with the baseball community. We don't have a lot of room for our facilities, but we should be proud of what we've got.
If you've got a child playing in the league, you should want to make this the best environment possible for your player. We have over 500 players in our league. If 4 out of 5 have two caring parents, that's a parent volunteer base of 800. If we can get the kids to help out and that's 1300! This is YOUR league! The quality of this league is in YOUR hands. If you see something that needs fixed, fix it! If you see a safety issue, bring it up! Don't complain about it and hope somebody else takes care of it. Every time you leave your garbage on the ground or on the bleachers, some other volunteer has to take the time to pick it up. If your child is throwing rocks down on to the blacktop, some other volunteer has to pick them up.
On any given weeknight, there are 5 games played at the KN fields. That's 10 teams per night, 12 players per team... 120 players. 1.5 parents per player is another 180. Count the 50, or so, siblings that come to watch and throw rocks at each other, and that's 350 volunteers per night. Each of the 350 players, parents, and siblings, we'll assume, have 2 hands. If you pick up one piece of garbage in each hand and carry it to the trash can that's 700 pieces of garbage per night.... the place would always be spotless!
Do your part. Pick up your 2 pieces of garbage. At the very least, please pick up ALL of your own garbage!
Keep tabs on your kids and make sure they aren't throwing rocks. The rocks around the Major Field outfield fence really take a toll on the lawn mower when they get thrown into the grass. We want every trip to the ballfields to be an enjoyable one for everyone. Show your KN pride, do your part!
