The tournament featured 20 of the top teams from five states, including the East Cobb Braves, Greeneville Marlins, Gresham Park Indians, Hampton Tar Heels, Memphis Tigers, Mt. The Stars completed pool play with a 3-0 record. The Stars captured wins over the Fairfield Chiefs (OH) 8-2, the Gresham Park Indians (GA) 9-7, and the Lexington Crush (KY) 12-1. The Stars pool play performance earned them a top four seed and a first round single elimination game bye.

In the quarterfinal the Stars faced a tough Hampton Tar Heels team. In a game that was very close, the Stars managed to pull away in the final inning for an 8-1 victory.

In the semifinal, the Stars faced their old friend and rival, the very talented Greeneveille Marlins. The Marlins came out in the top of the first swinging the bats and grabbed a 1-0 lead. This game featured a lot of hard hit balls by both teams, but the Stars' hits seemed to find open space and the Marlins' hits seemed to find a defender waiting. The Stars raced to a 12-3 win.

In the Championship Game the Stars faced the talented and well coached Mt. Juliet Bearcats. This Bearcats team features many weapons, including great pitching, solid defense and aggressive bats. The Bearcats jumped out to an early lead and maintained a 7-5 lead over the Stars going into the 6th and final inning. In the top half of the 6th, the Stars got a rally going and scratched out three runs to grab an 8-7 lead. The Stars participated in the 3rd Annual Volunteer Classic at Caswell Park April 29 - May 1. The tournament included the Greeneville Marlins, Knoxville Thuder, Winning Edge, Farragut Flames, Knoxville Alley Cats, Knoxville Yard and the Knoxville Black Diamonds.

The Story for Friday and Saturday was rain. Heavy storms Friday afternoon and evening prevented play on Friday and Saturday. Fortunately, beautiful weather prevailed on Sunday. On Sunday the tournament started very early and all teams completed two pool games and then pool winners were selected for an evening Championship Game.

The Stars bats were on and showed consistency for the first time this season. The Stars raced through pool play with a 30-0 win over the Knoxville Alley Cats and then a 13-1 win over the talented Knoxville Thunder.

In the Championship Game the Stars were faced with their old rival and friend, the Greeneville Marlins. The Marlins won thier pool with impressive wins over the Winning Edge and the Farrgut Flames. The Championship Game did not turn out to be the classic battle between the Stars and the Marlins. The Stars played a great game and it was simply not the Marlins day. The Stars won 15-1.

On this day, the Stars played their best baseball of the season. The Stars fired on all cylinders with solid pitching, consistent bats, and played spectacular defense. Congratulations Stars on a great tournament championship.

Next up for the Stars is the Greeneville Marlins Tournament of Champions.

The Knoxville Stars 10's played in the April 8-10 AAU Spring Swing at Caswell Park in Knoxville. A small tournament field included the Knoxville Yard, the Knoxville Thunder and the Knoxville Stars 9's.

The Stars coasted through pool play with three straight slaughter rule wins:
Stars 11 - Yard 3
Stars 10 - Thunder 2
Stars 12 - Stars 9's 4

In the Sunday semi final the Stars remained on auto-pilot with a 10-2 win over the Yard.

The final turned out to be a pressure cooker against the very talented and well coached Stars 9's. The Stars 9's came to play and had upset in mind. The game featured several lead changes. The Stars 9's grabbed the lead on more than one occasion and each time the Stars 10's inched back. The Stars 10's came to bat in the top of the 6th and final inning of regulation, trailing 6-5. With two outs the Stars 10's managed to steal home on a past ball and notch a 6-6 tie. The Stars 10's held the Stars 9's in check in the bottom of the 6th inning and sent the game to extra innings. Finally, in the 7th inning of their 19th game of the season, the Stars 10's bats, which had laid dormant for so long, exploded. The Stars 10's pounded out 8 runs and walked away with a dramatic 14-7 victory!

Congratulations to the 2004 AABC World Series Champion Stars 9's on a great tournament. The Stars 9's defeated two fine 10 year old teams, played their way into the Championship Game, and were one out from teaching the Stars 10's the meaning of celebration.

Congratulations Stars 10's on a hard fought tournament championship. The Stars 10's continued to pitch well and play excellent defense. The Stars 10's bats showed signs of returning to their traditional form. Next up for the Stars 10's is the April 15-17 Southeastern Invitational in Canton, GA.

Stars Early Bird Washes Away
Rain
The Knoxville Stars hosted their annual Early Bird Tournament April 2nd - 4th in Knoxville. The tournament featured the Knoxville Stars, Cincinnati Flames, Greeneville Marlins, Farragut Flames, Oak Ridge Force and Knoxville Thunder.

The Stars opened Friday evening with the Oak Ridge Force. The Stars bats, which had yet to provide much pop in the young 2005 season, showed some signs of life. Matt Cunningham threw a no-hitter, with 11 strike-outs, no walks, and was supported by great defensive play. In the bottom of the final inning the clouds opened up with rain just before the last out was secured. The Stars won 11-0.

From there, the story for the weekend was rain. The rain started in the final inning of the 1st game Friday evening and continued through most of the night. Saturday's forecast was a 50% chance of showers. The rain held out all day Saturday as the ground crew worked from 9AM until 4PM preparing the fields. Saturday at 5PM play resumed. Then about 6PM the clouds opened up again and a 45 minute down pour ensued. The tournament was cancelled.

On Sunday the weather was beautiful. Several teams hung around and scrimmaged. In their first game, the Stars played the very talented and well coached Cincinnati Flames. Fortunately the Stars bats had gone back into early spring hibernation. The Flames jumped out to 1-0 lead and that score held through 5 innings. In the top of the 6th inning the Stars figured out how to score two runs without hitting and grabbed a 2-1 lead. The Flames, who had driven from Cincinnati to Knoxville to spend a rainy weekend in a hotel, refused to drive home losers. The Flames scored 2 runs and walked away with a hard fought 3-2 victory. In the second game, the Stars played another talented and well coached Flames team, the Farragut Flames. The Stars bats roller-coaster showed some life once again. The Stars raced to 12-2 win.

So, the Stars went 1-0 in the Early Bird, but from there the story was rain. Next up for the Stars is the AAU Spring Swing at Caswell Park April 8th - 10th.

The Stars 10's travelled to Chattanooga, TN March 18-20 to defend their crown in the Border Wars Tournament. Once again this year the tournament featured 18 of the best teams from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

The Stars went 3-0 in pool play and claimed a #1 seed for Sunday's 8 team single elimination tournament. The pool play wins: 8-0 over the Tennessee Tornadoes, 11-3 over the North Georgia Xtreme and 3-2 over Team Wilson.

On Sunday, the Stars drew the North Alabama Giants in the quarter-finals. The Stars came to play after loosing to the Giants last year in Huntsville. The Stars managed a 4-0 win this time around.

In the Semi-Finals, the Stars were faced with the talented and well coached East Cobb Braves. This was a great game that featured some great defensive plays and timely hits by both teams. In a back and forth game, the Stars came out on top with a 5-4 win.

So, with a 5-0 tournament record the Stars were on to the Championship Game. The Stars were now faced with a very talented Birmingham Bruisers team. Unfortunately the Stars were running a little low on gas and never gathered the needed intensity. The game was close for a couple of innings. In the 3rd, following a couple of Stars defensive errors that would have ended the inning with no runs allowed, the Bruisers rattled off several runs. The Stars could not recover and the Bruisers collected a 10-2 victory. Congratulations Bruisers!

Overall, the Stars had a good weekend. A 2nd Place finish against great competition is nothing to hang your head about. The Stars will shine again very soon.

On Sunday the Stars faced a very impressive Knoxville Blast team in the semi-finals. The Stars battled hard and manufactured a 8-0 win to advance to the Championship game.

In the Championship game the Stars were faced with the very talented and well coached Knoxville Thunder. The Thunder had also swept through pool play and entered the game 4-0 for the tournament. The Thunder came to play. In the 1st inning the Thunder jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Stars. The Stars battled back and the game remained close for 4 innings. The Stars finally pulled away in the 5th inning and grabbed a 12-4 win in a very exciting game. Congratulations to the Knoxville Thunder on a great tournament.

The Knoxville Stars Organization held its annual Lead Off Banquet on January 11, 2005 in Knoxville.

The banquet was held at the Knoxville Expo Center and all the Knoxville Stars teams were present. Everyone enjoyed a great dinner and team and player introductions. This years quest speaker was Daron Schoenrock, head coach for the Memphis University Tigers. (That's right, Memphis Tigers - "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em"). Coach Schoenrock delivered a very inspirational and motivating message and his time was greatly appreciated.

The Knoxville Stars Annual Lead Off Banquet is a great opportunity for the players, coaches and families to celebrate last year's many success stories and get excited about the rapidly approaching 2005 season.

Stars Welcome "Rookie" Howell
The entire Stars family would like to welcome Davis "Hurricane" Howell (#3) to the roster for the 2005 season.

Davis, and his parents, Todd & Leigh, and his 3 brothers, Walker (age 12), Nolan (age 7), and Stewart (age 3), are a great addition to our baseball family. Good luck Davis and the Knoxville Stars 10's in 2005!

Stars Play Well In Fall Tournament
The Stars 10's participated in the 11U Division of the Knoxville Yard Fall Tournament, October 15-17, 2004 at Caswell Park.

The Stars have held just two practices since winning the BPA World Series back in July. The much deserved rest didn't appear to create to much rust on their game. However, the additional 4 1/2 feet of pitching distance did prove difficult for our pitchers.

The Stars lost a tough battle Friday night to the 11U Knoxville Yard. The Stars lost 12-6. In this game the Stars gave up 11 walks and the pitching distance proved to be the difference.

On Saturday the Stars rebounded for two impressive victories. The first was a 12-5 win over the 11U Bristol Cats. The second, was an exciting come from behind 8-7 win over the 11U Knoxville Thunder.

All in all, the Stars played solid defense and hit the ball extremely well. Congratulation Stars 10's on a great fall weekend.

Stars Welcome "Big K" Elliott
The entire Stars family would like to welcome Kevin "Big K" Elliott #33 to the roster for the 2005 season. Kevin joined the Stars 9's for the 2004 BPA World Series in Atlanta, GA and played a vital role in our success. Kevin, and his parents Mike & Missy Elliott, are a great addition to our baseball family. Good luck Kevin and the Knoxville Stars 10's in 2005!

Stars 10's Hold Try-Outs For 2005 Season
