The Knoxville Stars travelled to Cooperstown, NY for the Hall of Fame Invitational June 8-15, 2007. The tournament featured 96 teams from all over the United States.

The Stars rolled through pool play with a 6-1 record. The pool play games included:

Stars 6 - Bakersfield (CA) Bulldogs 5
Stars 11 - Spectators (OH) Bulldogs 0
Stars 12 - Sandy Plains Wildcats 0
Stars 5 - Okeeheelee Bulldogs 7
Stars 16 - Capital City Bombers (TX) 4
Stars 6 - Tampa (FL) Cobras 3
Stars 13 - WASCO (IL) Warriors 0

The Stars pool play performance earned them the #9 seed going into the 96 team single elimination tournament on Wednesday. The Stars elimination games included:

Round of 64: Stars 15 - Dublin (OH) Green Sox 3
Round of 32: Stars 7 - Sharpsburg (GA) Cardinals 1
Sweet 16: Stars 7 - Bakersfield (CA) Bulldogs 1
Elite 8: Stars 1 - Tamiami (FL) Rangers 10

The Stars made it all of the way into the Elite 8. Unfortunately, with the luck (or bad luck) of the bracket draw the Stars faced the Tamiami Rangers in the Elite 8. The Stars battled hard, but the Stars could not handle Tamiami's pick-up pitcher from California. The Stars fell to Tamiami. Tamiami proved to be more than anyone could handle as they were eventually crowned the tournament champions.

The final standings put the Stars in 5th place out of 96 teams. Congratulations Stars on a great week in Cooperstown!

The Stars participated in the Tennessee Super NIT in Kingsport, TN May 18-20, 2007. This was the Stars last opportunity to qualify for the 2007 USSSA Elite World Series at Disney.

The Stars played their best baseball of the season. In pool play the Stars finished 3-0 with the following wins:

Stars 9 - Charlotte Megastars 8
Stars 9 - East Tennessee Select 3
Stars 10 - Palmetto Lightning 4

The Stars pool play performance earned them the #2 seed and a spot in the final four on Sunday.

In the Sunday semi-final the Stars faced their local rival, Impact Adidas. The Stars came out fast and furious and raced to a 9-0 win.

The Stars advanced to the Championship Game and a chance to earn a berth to the Elite World Series. The opponent would be the Mentium Athletics who are a well coached team with great talent. Mentium jumped out to a 4-0 lead early. The Stars managed a couple of runs and trailed 4-2 going into the 6th and final inning. In the top of the 6th the Stars grabbed the lead on a three run bomb by Drake Byrd. Unfortunately, the Stars couldn't hold the lead as Mentium came back in the bottom of the 6th with two runs and secured the win. The Stars lost 6-5. Congratulation to Mentium on a great game.

Congratulations Stars for a great weekend of baseball. The Stars now enjoy a much deserved Memorial Day Weekend off. Then the Stars host the USSSA Knoxville Stars Smoky Mountain Classic NIT June 1-3 at Caswell Park in Knoxville.

Stars Finish 5th at Battle in the South
The Stars participated in the Battle in the South, May 4-5, 2007 in Rockwood, TN. The tournament featured 20 elite teams from several states, including California, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Kansas, Michigan and North Carolina.

The story of the tournament was heavy rain on Saturday, which shortened the tournament to 2 pool games. The Stars raced through pool play with two impressive victories. On Friday night the Stars beat the dangerous East Cobb Hurricanes 15-0. On Saturday night the Stars beat a very talented Charlotte Megastars team 4-0. The Stars pool play performance, which included excellent pitching, hot bats, and perfect defense, earned them the #1 seed heading into Sunday's single elimination tournament.

On Sunday the Stars faced their cross-state friends, the talented and well coached Mt. Juliet Bearcats. The game proved to be a pitcher's duel, with both team's hurlers getting the job done on the hill. Unfortunately the Stars made a couple of untimely mistakes and allowed the Bearcats three unearned runs. The Bearcats are a team you can't afford to give anything too and survive. The Bearcats made their plays and walked away with a much deserved 3-1 win.

Overall the Stars played some pretty good baseball and showed continued improvement. The Stars earned a 5th place finish against 20 outstanding teams. Congratulations Stars on a great weekend!

Stars Roller Coaster Continues
The Stars travelled to Dalton, GA April 27th-29th for the BPA Rumble in Dalton. The tournament featured teams from Georgia and Tennessee.

The Stars roller coaster season continued as the bats remained inconsistent. The Stars were 2-1 in pool play with wins over the East Cobb Yankees and the Georgia Bombers. The loss came with silent bats to Team Wilson. In Sunday's single elimination play, the Stars bats were hot in round one and the result was a convincing win over the Hobgood Heat. Unfortunately the bats cooled off in round two and the result was an extra inning loss to the Tennessee Tornados.

Next stop on the Stars' ride is the Battle in the South, May 4th-6th in Rockwood, TN. Good luck Stars!

Stars show life in Charlotte Super NIT
The Stars travelled to Charlotte,NC April 20-22, 2007 for the USSSA Charlotte Super NIT. The field featured 30 outstanding teams from several states.

The Stars played well in pool play. On Friday night the Stars secured a 16-0 win over the Carolina Shockers. On Saturday the Stars had the NC Cleveland Indians on the ropes, but couldn't close the deal and lost 5-3. Then on Saturday afternoon, the Stars beat GBC Team Acceleration 10-2 for a 2-1 pool record. The Stars pool play performance earned then the #10 seed in Sunday's single elimination play.

In Sunday's first round the Stars faced the Beaver Valley Red of Pennsylvania. The Red jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. But the Stars battled back in an offensive battle and secured a 9-8 win. This win earned the Stars a rematch with the NC Cleveland Indians. Unfortunately the Stars bats stalled, and the Stars fell.

Next up for the Stars, the Rumble in Dalton, April 27-29, 2007 in Dalton, GA. Good luck Stars!

Stars fall in Atlanta Super NIT
The Stars travelled to Peachtree City, GA for the USSSA Atlanta Super NIT March 30 - April 1, 2007. The field proved to be the strongest ever with outstanding teams from several states competing for a berth in the Elite World Series.

The Stars never really got going this time around. After an opening night pool victory over the Georgia Cherokee Reds, the Stars lost pool games to the Mentium Athletics and the Elite Red Sox. Somehow the Stars qualifed for Sunday single elimination only to lose in the 1st round to the talented and well coached Georgia Bandits.

Next up, the Charlotte Super NIT, April 20-22, 2007 in Charlotte, NC.   Good luck Stars!

Stars Start Fast, Run Out of Gas at Border Wars
The Stars travelled to Chattanooga, TN March 23-25, 2007 for the annual "Border Wars". This tournament features 24 of the best teams from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. As seems the norm anymore, The Stars drew what was clearly the toughest pool.

On Friday night the Stars faced the powerful Rocket City Stingers. The Stingers have proven to be a very talented and well coached team. In the marquee pool play match-up, the Stars came to play. With great pitching, some timely hitting including two perfect bunts, the Stars managed a hard fought 4-2 victory.

On Saturday the Stars faced the Roswell Hornets. The Hornets are a team to be respected, and previous games against the Hornets had always been tight. This one was close early, but a grand slam by Gage "G-Man" Downey helped the Stars pull away to a 10-1 win.

On Saturday evening the Stars faced the Alpharetta Mudcats. The Mudcat coach's found a way to fuel the Stars fire before the game ever started by not wanting to share an empty field for warm-ups. With that the Stars decided to make this game a fish fry and Mudcat was on the menu. Following a 1st inning Grand Slam by Wil "Big Montana" Crowe, the Stars stepped on the throttle and whipped the Mudcats 15-0. The Mudcats coaches and players showed no class, making a routine win extra sweet.

The Stars pool play performance earned them the #1 seed going into Sunday's single elimination. The Stars reward was the most difficult quarter-final match-up as they faced Viper Baseball Academy. The Viper's have become the Stars nemeses over the last 2 years and the two have had several hard fought battles. The Stars failed to capitalize on several opportunities early and the Viper's grabbed a 2-0 lead. The Stars rallied in the 6th and had the go ahead run at the plate. But the Viper's held on to beat the Stars 3-2. As always the Viper's showed much class and the Stars look forward to when the two meet again.

So just like that, what started out so well, came to an early end. Next weekend the Stars travel to Peachtree City, GA for the USSSA Super NIT. Good luck Stars!

Stars Victorious on Opening Weekend!
2007EarlyBird
The Stars opened up the spring season this weekend, March 9-11, 2007. The 2007 USSSA Lakeshore Park Early Bird at Lakeshore Park in Knoxville, TN, featured 9 teams from 4 states.

The Stars got off to a fast start in pool play. On Friday night the Stars faced the Mason Dragons from Mason, Ohio. The Stars scored early and often and raced to an impressive 16-1 victory. On Saturday the Stars faced the US Athletic Cardinals from Indianapolis, Indiana. The Stars bats cooled off slightly, but solid pitching and sound defense helped the Stars secure a 7-0 win. A 2-0 pool play record earned the Stars the #1 seed going into Sunday's single elimination play.

In the Sunday semi-final the Stars faced the newly formed Impact Adidas. This well coached team fields a conglomerate of talented players from all over the state of Tennessee. Fortunately for the Stars the bats stayed hot, the pitching was superb, and the defense played error free. The Stars managed a 13-1 win.

In the Championship Game the Stars faced the Kentucky Bombers. The Bombers entered the Championship Game as the #2 seed and were unbeaten in the tournament. The Bombers' featured a formidable pitching staff. The Stars bats were held at bay for a time. But in the end the Stars bats, pitching, and defense proved to be to much for the Bombers. The Stars claimed a 15-4 victory and the Championship trophies.

Congratulations Stars on a great weekend.

Stars Win "Firework Show" USSSA NIT in Hampton, GA
Stars Champs 2007 Fall GA
The Stars travelled to Hampton, GA for the North Forty USSSA NIT October 14th and 15th. The 12 team field included teams from Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee.

On Saturday the Stars went 2-0 in pool play with wins over Mudcat Baseball (4-3) and the PTB Vipers(9-0). The Stars were the #1 seed in their pool and earned a first round bye entering Sunday's single elimination play. In the quarter-finals the Stars beat the tough Sharpsburg Cardinals (2-1). In the semi-finals the Stars earned a hard fought win over the talented Roswell Hornets (5-3).

The Championship Game proved to be one for the memory books as the Stars faced the very talented and well coached, powerhouse Georgia Bandits. The game featured great pitching, great defensive plays, offensive firepower, and a surprise fireworks show.

Both teams failed to score in the 1st inning. In the top of the 2nd the Bandits manufactured a run to grab the early lead. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Stars loaded the bases in preparation of Drake Byrd hitting a two strike, monstrous, 275 foot Grand Slam over a very long center-field wall. WOW! The Stars managed two more runs, raced out to a 6-1 lead, and appeared ready to hit cruise control. Heath Loyd was the Stars' starter on the hill, and pitched 4 great innings. The 4th inning was relatively quiet, but that was just the quiet before the storm. The Bandits refused to go quietly.

The 5th inning provided a lot of FIREWORKS in middle Georgia's night skies. The Stars made a pitching change, the Bandits' bats got hot and very quickly cut the Stars lead to 6-4. The Bandits weren't done yet. With the bases loaded, the Bandits drove a deep fly-ball down the 3rd base line, the 3rd base umpire signaled "fair ball", but the home plate umpire immediately walked onto the field, waived his arms, and screamed "foul ball, foul ball, foul ball!" All three of the Bandits' base runners kept running and crossed the plate. The firework show between the Bandits' coaches, Stars' coaches and the umpires were loud and long. In middle of the show, the home plate umpire followed up his 1st bad call (the ball did appear to be fair) with a 2nd bad call. The rules of baseball clearly state at the point the home plate umpire indicates "foul ball", the play is dead and can not be reversed. The home plate umpire indeed reversed his call and awarded all three bandit runs to score. When the sky cleared, the scoreboard read: Bandits 7 - Stars 6. The Bandits had stormed back to take the lead. The Stars were stunned when they came to bat in the bottom of the 5th. But, the Stars were more determined than ever. The Stars put some emotional hits together and following 5 innings of play the Stars once again were in the lead 8-7. The 5th inning is one that will long be remembered. It included 6 runs for the bandits, two terrible calls by the head umpire, a huge fireworks show, and 2 runs for the Stars.

With emotions running high and both teams swinging hot bats, everyone in the park settled in to see what excitement the 6th and final inning would bring. In the top of the 6th the Bandits brought the top of the order. The Stars marched fastballer Austyn Dyer to the hill to try and close the door against a great fastball hitting team. The first two batters ripped shots to the right side. Matt Cunningham proceeded to make two very difficult plays look routine, and the Stars' secured the first two outs. Then, Austyn decided enough was enough. He turned up the HEAT. Fastball for strike one. Fastball for strike two. Fastball for strike three. Stars WIN 8-7!

Following the awards ceremony the Stars and Bandits closed a long and exciting day together in prayer. The Bandits are a team of first class coaches, players, parents and fans. The Bandits have earned and deserve the utmost respect on the field and are an honor to compete against. Congratulations to the Bandits and Stars on a great weekend of baseball!
