When is it time to move on?

Of all the dilemmas, that have confronted me in life, one now has caused me many sleepless nights trying to ponder the rightness of keeping my time consuming hobby of collecting information on Tennessee’s high school baseball players or moving on. There are no easy formulae to apply or effortless buttons to push that will make it simpler to gather the information, make the class listings and update, update, update and update.

My continuing stages of life add to the difficulties. As I look back to early, experiences of guidance where baseball-changing decisions were usually made on the run, I can firmly say the past few years of my life was happily altered by a passion for getting the word out about our Tennessee high school baseball players. Years later, we are all different people. For me the flush and passion has been diluted by the departure of many baseball families I saw every year.

Some HSBBWeb “old timers” remember that my hobby started on the HSBBWeb message board. I had an eight-grade son looking forward to high school baseball and some of our posts in those early years talked of talented players across the state. With my memory, I needed a list to remember the players I wanted to follow and one thing led to another.

It has been most gratifying hearing from college coaches about players they found and awarded scholarships from reading the website and for that reason it is most difficult to put an end to the “Top Tennessee Players” site. I did attempt to have a new site developed that would be less time consuming, but sad to say it did not work out. Those that know me best know that I cannot do something half-way. If I cannot devote the time to make it first class, something the kids deserve, then it’s time to move on.

I won’t name everyone, but thanks to all who helped the players by scouting, reporting information, etc. Also, most important, thanks to those college coaches that gave the players a chance to continue their dream. Maybe one day, someone will take up the banner to do something similar for the high school baseball players in the state again.

I will leave the “Top Tennessee Players” site up for a while and will remove the link above once everyone understands what is going on.
