Katy National Little League: Umpire Information
Umpire ClinicsWe will have our Spring 2009 umpire training clinics on Sunday, March 8th and March 22nd beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the fields. The agenda and approximate times are as follows:
1:00 - 2:30 - field umpiring
2:45 - 3:45 - rules
4:00 - 5:00 - plate umpiring and game management
For those who attend all three phases of the clinic, they will be qualified to be a plate umpire in KNLL. Obviously, we would like more KNLL members to attend this and begin to volunteer time as an umpire. This is also the clinic that persons must attend who want to umpire KNLL games for pay, including our teenage umpires. The minimum age to umpire is league age 14. 14 year-olds will be assigned only to 8 year-old machine pitch games and will be assigned only if they demonstrate sufficient maturity to do the job. 15 year-olds may do 8 or 9 year-old games and, after appropriate experience, can move up to older levels.
For little league divisions and younger, we do not assign field umpires. This function must be fulfilled by team parents. The field umpiring portion of the clinic is designed to train parent volunteers for this job. It is each team manager’s responsibility to send two parents to the umpire clinic so that the league will have “qualified” field umpires for our games.
Volunteer umpires - please let me know if you want to help with this training clinic. I would appreciate the help.
