KHS VOLLEYBALL TRYOUT INFORMATION

Tryouts for all three teams (Varsity, Junior Varsity, Freshman) of the Kamiak volleybal program will be held starting MONDAY, AUGUST 25.  Prospective players MUST be cleared before stepping foot in the gym; the process may be found on the KHS Athletics Website.

Monday 8/25:  3:00 to 6:00pm (gym opens at 2:30pm to get everyone signed in & tested)

Tuesday 8/26:  3:00 to 6:00pm

Wednesday 8/27:  3:00 to 6:00pm (cuts made at session's end ... those selected will attend a program dinner that night at 7:30pm)

TIPS FOR TRYOUTS:

1) Each player should attend tryouts with the mentality that their spot must be earned in the EIGHT-HOUR TRYOUT WINDOW. For many this may be the first time that coaches have seen them play, while others who have participated in the program for years are not necessarily guaranteed a spot. 

2) In general each team carries 12 players, and our coaches are not usually comfortable carrying more than that.  Coaches are looking to fill a roster with an appropriate number of players per position; depending on talent present at tryouts, it is a coach's discretion to keep a smaller team.

3) Physical health / condition is always a major factor at tryouts, therefore, all prospective players should begin some sort of conditioning program leading to tryouts.  All players will be evaluated on general fitness at tryouts (e.g., jump/reach, agility drills, timed sprints) and should be prepared to sustain extended periods of play throughout the tryout period. 

4) Another major factor at tryouts will be a player's sport knowledge & coachability. Coaches are equipped/trained to teach skill, so players are expected to show up open-minded & ready to work.  The position that one may have played previously may not be the position that she is selected to play.

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE FOR CONDITIONING
Tryouts are a chance for players to show off their physical ability & volleyball skills in about EIGHT HOURS. As the summer open gyms come to a close, players should still continue to work hard leading to tryouts.  Coaches expect players to attend tryouts in good physical shape, so it's never too late to start a conditioning program.  A good volleyball conditioning program consists of aerobic exercise, plyometrics, agility drills & strength training (and similar drills will be utilized at tryouts).  Here is a simple conditioning program for our players, so NO EXCUSES!
