Kettering/Largo/Mitchellville Boys and Girls Club: FOOTBALL UPDATE
FOOTBALL UPDATE #2- VERY IMPORTANT !!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!!! PLEASE READ!!!
TO: The KLM Boys & Girls Club Family
In keeping with our commitment and dedication to the youth of the Kettering, Largo, and Mitchellville communities, the KLM Boys & Girls Club is providing you with information on our upcoming football season.
For starters, Bob Pettis, our vice president and athletic director will take the helm as our interim football commissioner for the upcoming 2011 season. This year, football registration has been reduced to $125.00 and $105.00 for flag football. Football camp will be held July 18th thru July 22nd and will cost $10.00. This fee will be deducted from the aforementioned football registration fees. The first practice of the season starts the following Monday, July 25th.
As in previous years, you have the following options for registration:
· You may register online at klmbgc.com;
· You may register in person on the second Wednesday or 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6:30 until 8:00 pm at Kettering Middle School, 65 Herrington Drive, Upper Marlboro;
· You may register at football camp; or
· You may register during the first two weeks of the practice season.
Remember to register early so you will not incur an additional fee for football camp.
Lastly, it has come to our attention that another football program called the KLM Steelers has been established in our service area. While the Steelers is not affiliated with the KLMBGC Cougars, you might recognize the name of the director of this newly formed organization that will be playing in the Capital Beltway League. William Mack, our former football commissioner, is the director of the Steelers organization. Again, the KLM Steelers are not affiliated with the KLMBGC Cougars. KLMBGC always has and will continue to participate in the Prince George’s County Boys & Girls Club.
We look forward to servicing you again this year. Please feel free to contact commissioner Bob Pettis at (301) 520-9491, Coach Dale DeBerry at (301)758-7877, Coach Terry Cotten at (301)390-5227 or the KLMBGC registrar, Willie Carlisle at (301) 350-2344 for additional information.
Sincerely,
Tyrone V. Patterson, Sr.

Football Update 2011
To the KLM family:
In September 2010 William Mack, our football commissioner, announced his resignation from the KLMBGC board of directors and as football commissioner at the end of the 2010 season. Mr. Mack had serve in this position for over fifteen years and helped build one of the most successful programs in Prince George’s County. In addition, his contribution as a board member is unmatched as he and his wife’s home became the temporary storage facility for all of our equipment since 1998. We, the Board of Directors and KLMBGC thank him for his years of dedicated service to our kids and the community as a whole.
As we look to fill the position of football commissioner, Bob Pettis, our vice president and athletic director, will provide administrative leadership. We have already begun to reorganize for the upcoming football season, which we feel will continue to demonstrate the excellence we have exhibited over our forty year history as one of the most competitive programs in the County. We will also be looking for new head and assistant coaches during the next few months. Information on how to apply will be posted on our web site in April 2011.
It has come to our attention that there will be another football program starting up in our community this upcoming season calling themselves the KLM Steelers. Please Let It Be Known that this organization has no ties or affiliation with the KLMBGC Cougars.
So family, we look forward to your continued support and lookout for information concerning our upcoming 40th anniversary celebration on May 15, 2011. For tickets and more information check the special announcement on our web site.
Be Blessed,
Tyrone V. Patterson, Sr.
KLMBGC, President

All equipment and financial obligations must be satisfied before your child or children can participate in another sport sponsored by the club. 2006 Registration Update
To the KLMBGC Community:
On behalf of the Kettering-Largo-Mitchellville Board of Directors we thank you for your continued support for the past thirty-five years. It seems only a short time ago (1998) when a fire destroyed over $200,00.00 of equipment and uniforms stored at the Kettering Community Center, formerly known as the Kilby Center. Since that time our uniforms and equipment have been stored at the home of two of our board members at no cost to KLMBGC. In addition, our trailer and two concession stands are located there. Through it all we were able to maintain our athletic programs without an initial increase in the $50.00 registration fee. However, as a result of rising equipment and seasonal facility costs, the registration fee increased to $105.00 in 2006. Even with this increase, KLMBGC’s registration remains one of the lowest fees in Prince Georges County because of your past participation in fund-raising activities. In recent years, however, these efforts have not been fully supported by all. Thus, our registration fees had to cover most of our expenses. Our current registration fee alone cannot sustain the growth of our athletic programs and, the ever-increasing equipment upgrades, which began with the football and baseball seasons. Basketball, cheerleading, and soccer programs currently are under review for upgrades. Facility costs continue to grow as our need for additional facilities increase.
This fall the first phase of re-structuring our registration fees, fund-raising activities, and equipment upgrades will be implemented. But, always keep in mind that no child ever will be turned away. The new fees will continue to include the $20.00 fee to Prince Georges County Boys & Girls Club Inc. for each participant.
As many of you already know, we have been embarking on a major fund-raising campaign for the past two years to match a $150,000.00 grant KLMBGC received from Maryland State Government, which expires June 2007. This grant will help us build a permanent home for KLMBGC with office/meeting space, but most importantly lots of storage. Even though we have raised about $58,000.00 to date, this has proven to be a very difficult endeavor, involving additional hours from our board members and volunteers.
To the business owners, community organizations, churches, and individual patrons, we are a 501(c)(3) organization and have been in good standing for the past 35 years. We need your ideas, time, and most of all your financial support. For 35 years KLMBGC has been without a home base. Help us to construct a home base that will symbolize our efforts to provide quality youth activities throughout the Kettering-Largo-Mitchellville communities. For more information, please call Tyrone Patterson Sr. at 301-249-5629 or Patricia Spencer-Lee, 301-249-7442.
2005 Registration Update
KLMBGC REGISTRATION UPDATE
To the KLMBGC community:
On behalf of the Kettering-Largo-Mitchellville Board of Directors we thank you for your support for the past thirty-two years. It seems only a short time ago (1998) when a fire destroyed over $200,000.00 of equipment that was stored at the Kettering
Community Center, formerly known as the Kilby Center. Since that time our uniforms and equipment has been stored at the home of two of our board members at no cost to the KLMGBC. Through it all we were able to maintain our athletic programs without an increase in registration, which was $50.00. However, as a result of rising equipment and seasonal facility costs, the fees increased to $60.00 three years later. Even with this increase, KLMBGC's registration remains one of the lowest in Prince George's County. We were able to maintain these lower fees because of your participation in our fundraising activities. However, in recent years these efforts have not been fully supported by all. Thus, our registration fees had to cover most of our expenses. Our current registration fee alone cannot sustain the growth of our athletic programs, and the ever- increasing equipment and facility costs.
So effective immediately, the registration fee will increase to $75.00 per child. This will continue to include a $10.00 Maryland
National Capital Park and Planning Commission fee for each child.
During the next eighteen months we will be embarking on a major fundraising campaign to match a $150,000.00 grant the KLMGBC received from Maryland State Government in 2000. This grant will help us build a storage facility adjacent to Perrywood Elementary School and the Kettering-Largo Recreation Center. It will be imperative that everyone in our community get on board in supporting this building initiative that is long overdue. Through donations and our fundraising efforts I am confident we will meet our December 2004 goal for completion. For more information on how you can make a difference, please contact Terry Cotten, Chairperson of the KLMBGC Resource Development Committee, at 301-390-5227.
