Kiski Legion: Welcome

The coaches had some very tough decisions to make this year and all the players did a nice job during the tryouts. 

As Coach Den mentioned even if you were cut, please come back for the fall ball program and keep playing as some of the players cut last year are on the team this year.

Here are the new timeslots for hitting this weekend:

The younger guys – 13 and 14 year olds – will hit at the Park on Saturday at 1:00. 

The 15 year olds will hit at 1:00 on Sunday. 

 We understand that there is a jayvee tournament Saturday and believe that most of the JV guys will be free Sunday as opposed to Saturday.

Due to all of the High School makeup games we are shifting some of the times for the tryouts to later in the day (4PM).

 Here are the new times:

April 13 - Starting at 4PM

April 14 - Starting at 4PM

April 20 - Starting at 1PM

April 21 - Starting at 1PM

 All tryouts are held at the Legion field located in Laube Park in Freeport.

April 6, April 7, April 13, April 14, April 20 and April 21 from 1:00-3:00PM at the Legion field located in Laube Park in Freeport. 

It is strongly suggested that you attend all tryout dates but you must attend at least two tryouts to be eligible to make the roster.

Any player ages 13-15 interested in playing in the very competitve Westmoreland County Junior Legion league who is a resident of Burrell, Ford City, Freeport, Kiski, Leechbug, Natrona Heights and the surrounding area are eligible to tryout.

The season will start after the high school season in early May and will run though early July.  A 16-20 game schedule will be played against the other Junior Legion teams located in Shaler, Murrysville, Irwin, West Hempfield, Penn Twp., East Hempfield, Greensburg, Ligonier, Belle Vernon and Jeannette.

Playoffs will start the week of July 4th and will conclude in late July / early August with district / state finals depending on how far the team goes.

Sr. Legion fall sign-ups for Kiski Valley Sr. Legion Baseball will be held on August 25^th & 26^th at Freeport Park Field at 3:00 both days.   Players, 15 and older, from Freeport, Kiski, Leechburg, Ford City and Kittanning are eligible.

Kiski Valley Jr.Legion

Jr. Legion fall sign-ups for Kiski Valley Jr. Legion Baseball will be held on August 25^th & 26^th at Freeport Park Field at 1:00 both days.  Young men born after May 1, 1998 are eligible.  Those interested from Freeport, Leechburg, Ford City, Kittanning, Kiski Valley and Lower Burrell are welcome.

Cost will be $25 and covers the shirt and umpires.

Practices will be held each day after signing up and after a couple of weeks inter-squad games will be played each Saturday and Sunday until the October / November timeframe.

Jr. Legion will be on a 1:00PM  weekend start time and Wednesday nights at 6PM through September.  The Sr. Legion will be on a 3:00PM weekend start time. 

Once the games start it will depend how many teams there are but games will generally be played during the warmest part of the day on the weekends probably in the 1:00-3:00PM start time range until we are finished.

The Kiski Valley Jr. Legion team ran out of gas in the end and was swept by West Hempfield 2 games to 0 in the Semi-finals of the Westmoreland County Jr. Legion playoffs. 

It was a great year for this expansion team as they battled all year long and finished 4th overall.  The future looks bright for Kiski Valley Jr. Legion.

Kiski Valley Jr.  Legion advances to the next round in the Westmoreland County Jr. Legion playoffs eliminating Irwin (Police Athletic League) 2 games to 1 in a best of 3 series.

After dropping the opening game at home, Kiski Valley stormed back winning the 2nd game on the road and the final game at home on Friday night.  Noah Shannon pitched 6 strong innings and Mike Fennell closed the game out in the 7th getting out of a bases loaded jam preserving the 5-4 win!!

Kiski Valley now advances to the semi-finals against the #3 seed West Hempfield at their field on Sunday in the next best of three series.  The winner of this round will advance to the Westmoreland county championship game and will receive a birth in the regionals at Punxsutawney as well.

The Kiski Valley Jr. Legion team finished the regular season with a 12-7-1 record after an 0-3 start and earned a 4th seed spot in the playoffs. 

They open round 1 of the playoffs (best of 3 series) against the PAL team from Irwin at home on Wednesday (7/11).  Game two will be played at PAL on Thursday and a game three will be played at home (if needed) on Friday.
