COMETS WIPE OUT MUSTANGS, RECORD BOOK
Team records fall in 51-18 win against Indiana

Quarterback James Frazier set new Kings Comets records for completions, passing yards and touchdowns as the Comets (2-1, 2-0 Mid-Continental Football League) routed the Indiana Mustangs (1-1, 1-1), 51-18, Saturday night on Hi-Five Field at Little Miami High School in Morrow.

Frazier finished 15-of-22 passing for 302 yards and five touchdowns. Dominick Goodman set a team record by being on the receiving end of three of those touchdowns, catching six passes in all for 120 yards.

The 51 points were also a new team record.

Phillip Barnett added four catches for 116 yards as the Comets had two 100-yard receivers for the first time in team history. Keith Brooks finished with 136 yards from scrimmage in his first game of the season for Kings, rushing 10 times for 69 yards and catching four passes for 67 yards.

The Comets took control of the game by scoring 20 points in less than a minute late in the first half.

Goodman started the run by breaking a tackle and sprinting 21 yards for a touchdown to give Kings a 13-0 lead with 2:21 remaining before halftime. The Comets recovered an on-side kick following a failed two-point conversion, and Frazier hit Barnett with 49-yard scoring strike two plays later. Larry Byndon intercepted a pass on Indiana’s next play from scrimmage, and Frazier found Goodman in the back of the end zone on Kings’ very next play for a 27-0 lead 1:25 before halftime.

Goodman also had the Comets first touchdown of the game, a four-yard reception midway through the first quarter.

Frazier’s fifth touchdown came on an eight-yard pass to Barnett with 2:10 remaining in the third quarter.

Travis Johnson also had a 48-yard field goal in the third quarter.

The Comets tacked on two touchdowns in the fourth quarter on runs by John Elder and John Washington.

Defensively, Kings limited an offense that rolled up 340 yards last week to just 202 yards this week, 147 of which came in the fourth quarter.

Indiana receiver Brandon Williams was limited to two catches for 35 yards after setting an MCFL record with 208 receiving yards on six catches last week.

In addition to Byndon’s interception, his second of the season, TiRon Jones intercepted a pass after picking off two last week. Tommy Sewell, James Spikes, and Rico Middlebrooks recorded one sack each, with Sewell and Byndon leading the team with five tackles apiece.

The Comets are home again next Saturday, August 8, to face their other South Division foe, the Louisville Bulls (0-1, 1-2), 7 p.m. at Little Miami High School.
