King Cross Country:Summer Camp Info

King Cross Country

King Cross Country runs a summer camp. While attendance and participation is not required to make the squad in the Fall, it is recommended as a very important time of preparation and conditioning.  Historically, 99% of all runners do attend and participate in the camp.

The camp will start Monday, July 25 and end August 23

The camp starts at 7:00 AM from King High School and ends approximately at 8:30-8:45 AM on most days. The reason for the early morning start is to avoid the heat and smog of the summer months.

The camp will be conducted from July 25th to August 23, in which part of the group will be invited to the Mammoth Lakes running camp from August 9-15. Athletes not participating in the Mammoth portion of the camp will not have practice during that week. On August 24th, the official season begins and roster selections (based on a 3 mile time trial on August 23) will be posted.

The cost of the camp is $95.00 per athlete, regardless of the amount of time the athlete spends in the camp. There are NO REFUNDS if the athlete decides to drop from the camp after the start. Make checks payable to "KING CROSS COUNTRY BOOSTER CLUB" or bring EXACT bills if paying in cash.

Please do NOT mail payments to school as they may get lost due to summer scheduling.  Bring payments and paperwork to the first day of camp.

The fee covers stipends for the summer staff, a team T-shirt, food and drinks throughout the camp and team swim party.

Attendance is taken, but is NOT required for team selection. If you have a vacation planned during the camp, that is fine, just let Coach Peters know in advance. There are no deductions in the cost of the camp for planned vacations.

The camp is NOT required in order to make the 2016 team, but is highly recommended as helpful experience toward that goal.

Mammoth Camp (August 14-20) selections -- approximately 28 students --  will be taken from Summer Camp attendees and their performances in the first week to ten days of camp.
