Kinetic Volleyball Club FAQ’s

Q: What is the cutoff date for the age groups?

A: The age groups definitions can be found by clicking on the Age Group Definitions tab on the left.

Q:  How many players are on a team?

A:  We try to limit the number of players per team to 10.  This ensures that we have enough players if one or two cannot make it to a tournament and at the still maximizes playing time for all players.

Q: How Much Playing time will my daughter get?

A: Playing time is based on the needs of the team.  While no player is guaranteed playing time, it the policy of the club to play all players will play at least a half set (game) every other set.  Playing time will not be equal.  Every team will have players who, by virtue of their particular skill, talent, attitude or leadership ability, will be on the court nearly all the time.  This is because their participation makes the players around them better.  We feel this is the best way to give every player the chance learn and be successful.

Q:  Where are the tournaments held?

A:  Tournaments are held at a variety of locations throughout the Chesapeake region that includes all of DC, Maryland, Delaware, and Northern Virginia.  We host enough tournaments at our home facility that we are able to limit the number of tournaments that involve longer drive times.

Q:  How long are tournaments?

A:  Tournaments are an all-day affair with check-in usually around 8:30 and playoffs ending as late as 8:00 p.m.  In a typical tournament, the girls can expect to play a minimum of 8 sets (formerly called games) and a maximum of around 14 if they make it to the finals.

Q:  What is the tournament schedule?

A:  Tournaments are scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays.  We expect the teams to compete in 7 tournament dates.  For all teams except the 12’s this includes the three-day Capitol Hill Classic. The three-day tournament will take the place of three single day tournaments.  The schedule can be very fluid.  We will enter far more tournaments than we want to play in.  There is a complicated priority system that determines who plays in which tournament.  In general, teams that have not played in the longest amount of time are selected first.  Once you have played in a tournament you are moved to the bottom of the priority list.  There are about sixty teams in some age groups and any given weekend about twenty to thirty teams get into tournaments.  Because of the large number of tournaments we are hosting, we expect to be able to provide a fairly accurate tournament schedule for most teams by the start of practices in mid December.

Q:  How often do we practice?

A:  Teams practice 2 times per week for a total of 3 hours.

Q:  Where do we practice?

A:  Currently our practice facility is the Reiber Arts & Athletic Center located on the campus of Holy Trinity Episcopal Day School.  It is located on 11902 Daisy Lane. Glenn Dale, MD 20769.  This is a brand new facility and we hope to call it home for many years to come.

Q:  How much does it cost and how is the money spent?

A:  All players except 12u can expect to pay $850 for participation in the program from mid-December through April.  There is a $100 discount for those who choose to pay the entire fee up-front.  12u players will pay $425 for the season with a $50 discount for full payment up-front.  The fee covers all expected expenses for the season including one uniform set (jersey, shorts, and socks). Uniforms are an additional expense for many other clubs.

Q:  What do the fees not cover?

A:  The fees include everything needed to compete for the season including practice gym time, equipment, coaching, tournament entry fees, uniforms, background checks, mandatory coach training, uniforms and admin expenses.  The fees do not cover optional uniform items that may be offered for the players to purchase.  These may include team specific t-shirts, additional game jerseys, warm-ups, shoes and team bags.

Q:  How long does the season last?

A:  The typical season begins with try-outs in November, followed by team registration and a club-wide meeting in late November, and Practices beginning early December.  For most of our teams, the season concludes with the Regional Tournament in April.

Q:  Are there fundraisers offered by the club?

A: The club does not do any fundraising.
