Kentwood Bantam A & PeeWee AA Travel Teams Finish the Season Strong!
2009 CCHA Champs Kentwood 96
2009 CCHA Tournament Champions

Some teams peak early, some teams peak later in the season.  Two of the Kentwood Travel Teams haved played extremely well the last 1/4 of the season.  The Bantam A (95) Team won the Patrick Division of the LCAHL State Playoffs by defeating the Cleveland Warriors 7-3 in the finals.  In the playoffs the Falcons went 7-1 and outscored their opponents by a margin of 45 to 19.

The PeeWee AA Falcons (96) also finished strong by putting together an impressive 8 game winning streak and bringing home the CCHA Tournament Championship over the Soo Lakers 3-1 in the Finals.  The winning streak was in doubt during the semi-final game trailing 4-1 with four minutes to go.  The team pulled together and scored 3 un-answered goals (2 with an empty net behind them) just to get the game into overtime, then went on to finish things off in overtime with an impressive 5-4 come from behind victory against the Plymouth Stingrays.  The PWAA Team worked extremely hard all season but this past month they outscored their opponents by a 42-14 margin, wow!

Very impressive gentlemen, great job and let's build on this momentum going into tryouts and into the start of next season.  Congratulations to all of the players and to Coach Ross Antonini and Coach Dave Rost on finishing the season in such a convincing fashion!

Hockey Day in Kentwood, Michigan a Success!

Thanks to everyone who helped out with the Hockey Day in Michigan at Kentwood Ice Arena.  From Brett Baker and the Arena Staff, to the volunteers to Vic Bontomasi and Andy Young for their food donations, everyone had a great time.

Here is a note from a family that attended the event that currently has one child in the Kentwood LTS Program and one child at another program in town:

I just wanted to thank everyone at the Kentwood Ice Arena for this fun, family event on February 14th.  My son and stepdaughter just started in Learn to Skate this past session at Kentwood and we have been more than impressed with the facility and the kind, genuine, helpful nature of all the people involved with the Kentwood hockey programs.

My stepson plays on a PeeWee house team at xxxxxxx Ice Center, and we chose Kentwood for the Learn to Skate program because it fit our schedule better, but I must admit, I've been so impressed that I'm lobbying my husband to change rinks next season.

Many thanks to the workers at the concession stand for the free food, all the coordinators of the event for the T-shirts and having Griff there (that was the highlight for my 3 year old), and thanks too, to the teams and coaches that were there to support the event.  Skating with my 3 year old is always an adventure as he is just a beginner, but I never made it more than half way around the rink without a player or coach offering to help or making sure we had a practice bar.  I was very impressed with the kindness and helpfulness of everyone there.

Thank you all for a fun, family event!  What a great representation of how great Hockey is in Michigan!  ~The xxxxx family~

Thanks again for everyone who helped make this event possible.  Hockey is a great sport and we are fortunate here at Kentwood to be blessed with so many good people!

KHSA Teams Well Represented
PW B Champs
PeeWee B Champs

Recently the Kentwood Falcons had 5 teams playing in a tournament in Ann Arbor.  All 5 teams made the Semi-Finals, 3 teams went to the Finals and 2 teams won their age divisions.  Congratulations on a great weekend.

The Squirt A team team went 3-1 and faced two Canadian teams and a Cleveland team. The way the age brackets worked for the other teams, it meant that our team of 9 year olds (and one 8 year old) played teams that were primarily made up of 10 year olds. The Cleveland team was the Shaker Raiders, who beat us in the round robin portion of the tournament, 3-1. We faced them in the finals and beat them 5-3.

The Pee Wee B team faced a Chicago team, a Cleveland team, and a Gaylord team in the round robin portion of the tournament and went 2-1 (the loss coming from the Shaker Raiders - oddly enough it was 3-1 just like the Squirts). We faced Trenton in the Semi-finals and won 5-4. In the finals, we faced the Shaker Raiders again - this time we beat them 4-3 for the championship.

Update: The Kentwood PWA team, building on the successes our teams had in Ann Arbor last weekend, won the Glacier Point North American Cup Tournament in Port Huron.  The team went 3-1 for the weekend and only allowed 6 goals in the four games. Bring on LC playoffs and Districts!

KHSA Night at the Griffins set for January 24, 2009

You will get the Griffins Fundraising Tickets from your Team Manager in the next few days.  We are asking eash KHSA Family to purchase 2-4 tickets and attend the game.  This is the second fundraiser of the season (Spaghetti Dinner) and the monies will be split between KHSA and your Team.

We have a commitment of 425 Tickets and we will also be looking for volunteers to help us sell Throw for Dough Balls at the Game.  Last year we were the top selling organization for the entire season, let's keep our record in tact for the 2008-09 season as well.

If you cannot attend the game on 1/24/09 (as the Bantam A Team is doing) we are asking for you to purchase the tickets and let us donate them to a needy organization (youth or elderly) and offer an opportunity to share the game of hockey with another less fortunate individual.

Annual KHSA Skate with the Falcons set for Saturday 11/1/08

On Saturday from 11:00 - 1:00 the Annual Skate with the Falcons is set to begin.  EK Varsity Coach Todd Bell will be there to announce his 2008-09 Team and all KHSA  members are welcome from Cross Ice to JV.  There will be food, prizes and all players are asked to bring their helmets, gloves and skates for this event.

Each player will be given a raffle ticket for prizes.  We have invited Griff to attend so hopefully he will be able to be there.  This annual fun event is an opportunity for our players to meet the new EK Varsity players and just to have some fun with their friends.  Plan on being there this Saturday and don't forget to bring your camera.
