Meeting Minutes
January 18, 2007
Meeting called to order: 7:03 pm
Attendance for Board of Directors: Kurt Self, Deanna Russell, Scott Russell, Kyong Bertsch, Marty Price, Monica Wulff, Glen George, Todd Davis, Greg VanOverbeke, and John Jansen.
Members: Rich Henry, Brook Kopp, & Teri Lewellen.
Non-Member: Tom Abernathy and Wendy Abernathy
Meeting Minutes: Motion to pass the December meeting minutes was made by Scott Russell, 2nd by Greg VanOverbeke. Motion passed.
Presidents Report:
- Dugouts: The Metro Parks Board would like the Dugouts for Field 3 to be portable. This will mean the project will be delayed until further notice.
- KP Metro Parks: Kurt will be meeting with Randy Nimrick at the Lower Field at Volunteer Park to discuss how the lower field can be improved. Kurt will be meeting with Scott Gallacher about possibly putting up the Batting Cage in the Tennis Court for the 2007 Season since the Skate Park Project has been delayed.
- District 1: Art Mikelson would like for us to send a representative to the NW Regional Conference Meeting. Linda Marzano will be our representative and will attend the Conference Meeting.

Player Agent Report: 209 players have signed up so far. T-Ball: 31 players; M-Prep: 36 players; Minors: 54 players; Majors: 44 players; Juniors: 13 players; Seniors: 11 players; BL: 0; MJR Softball: 10; JR Softball: 10. Deanna, Kyong, Teri, Greg, and Kim will sign up players at the Player’s Clinic. Board Members will make calls to all the players who have not signed up yet, since the number of sign ups are low.
Fundraising Report: The Fundraising Committee went into the Connex and inventoried the Breakfast items. They are looking into renting a commercial griddle. Phyllis Whittington has sent out quite a few donation letters out to businesses. $250 cash is donated so far. 1000 Taco Time coupons (in Gig Harbor only) were donated to us for free. We can sell it for $1 or so for 100% profit. Rental fee for using KPMS might be around $400. The biggest cost will be the Custodian fee. We might get it donated to us. Kurt will look into this.
E-Mail Votes: The majority of the Board Members voted for Glacier Peak Photography to be our league Photographer this year. Devin of Glacier Peak will provide another photographer during the Team Photo Shoot in order to speed up the event. The Board Members also passed the Coach’s Clinic Budget of $500. This clinic will be held on January 27 & 28th. Kurt will look into holding one of the clinic to be held inside a building on the chance that the weather is wet and cold.
Unfinished Business:
- Rick Parks and Brent Adams (Vice President) have both resigned from the Board. The Board voted in Teri Lewellen and Jodi Kvinsland as the 14th and the 15th Board Members. The Board also voted Scott Russell as the Vice President, and Todd Davis as the Treasurer.
- Opening Day Jamboree – It will be bench batting w/ only 1 game being played per team.
- Field Chair Position to fill – Rich Henry has volunteered to take this position.
Umpire Credit – For the Tournament only (that the league is holding this year in June), those Umpires can get a free meal thru the Concession Stand.
Uniforms – Uniforms will be ordered soon. M-Prep and Majors Baseball Divisions are the only ones getting new uniforms.
New Business:
- Pitch Count Rule – Manager/ Coach’s Meeting was originally going to be held on March 3rd at Elgin Clifton Fire Station, but might be moved to another date. At this meeting, the Pitch Count Rules will be discussed. Scott Russell will be organizing this meeting.
- Children Umpiring – Glen George volunteered to draft up an Umpire Policy. Anyone who has ideas can e-mail Glen with it. Glen will bring the draft to the next board meeting and have the board vote on it. The District Umpire Clinic is being held on March 17th. Location is yet to be determined.
- Rainiers Proposal – the Board will just wait for the Little League games order forms to hand out to the league. We will not commit to any fundraisings that they proposed.
Coach’s Clinic – Deanna Russell made a motion to spend $50 to rent Civic Center for the Coach’s Clinic. 2nd made by John Jansen. Motion passed. - Tryouts – Kurt and Deanna will organize it. Rich and Kyong will help where needed.
Photo Schedule – Devin will bring another photographer for the Team Photo Session. The Retake will be held on April 27th. The All-Star Team Photo will be held on June 19th.
Meeting adjourned: at 8:23pm.
Big League Uniform Deposit – The Board discussed about the concern of the Big League’s Uniforms not being returned to the league at the end of the season. In order to eliminate this problem, Marty Price made the motion to charge all Big League players $60 at the registration for a Uniform Deposit. 2nd made by Todd Davis. Motion passed. The check/ cash will be deposited and will be returned to each player once the uniform is turned back to the league at the end of the season.
