2007 MVABL League Champions, Win 5-0 over Astros
World_Series_Trophy

As the Boys in Blue arrived at the field on Sunday there was an air of excitement. Making their second appearance at the big dance in as many years the Royals felt this was their opportunity to cash in. Royals veteran and a cornerstone on the pitching staff, Jason Griffith was the scheduled starter. Griffith was looking for a different outcome over his last Championship start where a walk-off homerun ended the Royals comeback in last season's winner-take-all finals. Griffith was coming off a 9-inning 3-hitter complete game victory against the Dayton Rangers in the League semi-finals when he got the nod from the Skipper for the start.

Playing behind their starter the Royals defense played at an unseen level. When Griffith wasn't controlling Astros hitters, his defense picked up outs on all but 1 ball that was just out of reach of the diving Duffy and not committing a single error en route to the 5-0 Victory!

This Royals Championship was a team effort all the way!! Every Royal did his part along the way throughout the season. After going 3-5 in the month of July, the Boys in Blue buckled down and got their focus back notching 5 straight victories through the month of August ,despite some injuries throughout the lineup, to secure the League Title.

In the playoffs veteran Brian Duffy (7-14/7 RBIs) and rookie Scott Falkowski (5-8/6 runs) led the offense. And off the hill their staff was tough as well. Duffy picked up the first win against the Kettering Outlaws help from another Royals Rookie, Kevin Reynolds who assisted with 3 scoreless innings to secure the Royals win. And veteran Jason Griffith capped off the League semi-finals and Sundays Championship with back-to-back complete games and only allowing 4 hits.

All in all it was an unbelievable feeling for all securing the teams first league title, but for a few the game was even more memorable. For veterans Mark Franklin and Eric Jameson, they have been with the team since 2000 and have seen the team struggle through the early years and to finally say they've won it all really is a great feeling.   Veteran Chad Campbell has played through injuries, most recent was his 8 inning performance on a broken foot, to help the squad compete many a times over the last 6 years.  Former Royal TJ Dean was there in our thoughts as we celebrated, he has been a Royal over the last 5 years but a great job offering pulled him from the squad before he could see the team finally cash in.  And for 3 of the Royals Rookies, Kevin Reynolds, Scott Falkowski, and Shawn Rudegeair they were able to go from the lowest of lows to the highest of highs after dismal seasons in 2006 with their previous teams. But rookie Kyle Ubinger says we all have him to thank for our success this season as greatness just follows him where ever he goes and he wasn't going to settle for anything other than the title!!

Thanks go out to everyone who made it out to support us throughout the year, especially our littlest fan, Bernie Kosar Griffith, who seemed to be the teams good luck charm!! And congratulations to the Dayton Astros on their season, and especially to their coach Rob Johnson who turned the team around after a hard 2006 season and all-around good guy. And finally, thanks to all the Boys in Blue that made the commitment to play with on the team, and made it out each week to help the team succeed!!

Royals Reach MVABL Finals for the 2nd Straight Year

The 2007 regular season ended with a thrilling victory against the Dayton Astros to secure the #1 playoff seed for the Boys in Blue.  In the playoffs, the Royals picked up 2 victories over the last week, against the Kettering Outlaws and the Dayton Rangers, en route to the MVABL finals where they will face-off again against the Dayton Astros.  Brian Duffy and Kevin Reynolds kept Outlaws hitters at bay as the team picked up the 16-7 win, and last Sunday veteran Jason Griffith worked his magic agains the Rangers only giving up 4 hits and 1 unearned run as the team cruised to a 11-1 victory capped by a 7 run 7th.  The pitching staff has been assisted by the Royals hot bats as the team has picked up 27 runs on their way to the league finals.  The Astros after falling to the Rangers in the second round were able to regroup and work their way back through the lower bracket where they would get a rematch with the same Rangers squad in the lower bracket finals, but this time they were able to take their second matchup to move on to the MVABL Finals.

So the Boys in Blue will meet the Men in Black this Sunday as they look to pickup the organizations first League Championship as they make their return appearance to the big dance.  Game time is slated for 1:00 PM at Rotary, but this game could make a last minute change to the beautiful confines of AIA.  Be sure to show up early as the good seats will go fast as both teams battle it out for the League Championship.

Royals Win in Dramatic Fashion to Secure the #1 Playoff Seeding
baseball_celebration

As the fans setup their chairs on the day I don't think anyone could've scripted a more exciting finale to the Royals regular season. In the make or break game the Royals needed to pickup a win to not only secure the #1 Seed, but more importantly to avoid the Playoff opening weekend Double Header. The fans would not be disappointed as the game unfolded in a way that no one could've ever scripted... After a 30 minute rain delay the Boys in Blue took the field in the top of the 6th down 5-4, but the delay put a strain on everyone as the Astros were able to plate 4 runs in the top half of the 6th for a 9-4 lead, but battling back the Royals were able to score 7 runs of their own to regain the lead 11-9. Due to the time restraints the Royals took the field in what would be the last inning of the game looking to seal the deal, but the Astros would not have any part of that... With some key hits of their own the Astros put another 4 runs in the book to put the Royals down 2 now going into their half of this last inning... Starring at a 2 run deficit facing the hard throwing Leach, Royals Veteran Eric Jameson stepped up to the plate. Working the count, he got Leach down 2-0 and he was sitting on the fastball that Leach had to deliver, and when he got that pitch he turned on it with all his might to send it quickly out over the left field fence to cut the Astos lead to 1. Rookie Chris Heitker followed up with his second 1B on the day, but was cut down as Leach fired a seed to second to cut down the lead runner on a Falkowski sacrifice attempt. With 1 out Leach got the Royals next hitter, Schwab, to fly out to 2nd recording the 2nd out of the inning. With 2 outs, down by 1, Rookie Kevin Reynolds stepped up and knocked a single to get the game winning run on the base paths. With Veteran Ben Ailes at the plate looking to at least plate the tying run, but following a surprise Balk Falkowski and Reynolds both moved up 90 feet things got just a little brighter for the Boys in Blue. But Leach beared down to work the count to 2 balls, 2 strikes, with 2 outs in this crucial at bat when Ailes connected on the next pitch sending it high and out to left center. As soon as the ball left the bat Falkowski and Reynolds took off, and as Astros Left Fielder Evan Tennery gave chase it was a nail biting experience. The Ball continued to sail hanging in the thick air as Evan got closer and closer, then as the ball was nearing the ground Tennery went horizontal as everyone held their breath, but the ball was just out of reach bouncing off the turf for the game ending walkoff ground rule double giving the Boys in Blue the 14-13 victory.

It was a hard fought game on both sides and maybe their paths will cross again as both squads work their way towards the MVABL Championship Game. Up next for the Boys in Blue, they will face off against the winner of the Indians/Outlaw game this Sunday at 7:00 PM at AIA. Be sure to get your ticket in advance as the playoffs will sell out fast! Come out and cheer the team onto victory.

Dog Support
Bernie01

In lieu of the Royals recent shout out for some uplifting, Bernie Kosar Griffith came out to help the Boys in Blue take a bite out of the Sox!! With the Royals littlest fan in attendance, the team pounded out 13 hits to pickup the much needed victory to keep pace with the Rangers and Astros in the race for the top. Royals Rookie Scott Falkowski started for the Boys in Blue on the hill, but ran into a bit of trouble and was replaced 1 out before he could officially record the Win. However, his teammates and fans know he picked up the win their hearts... In relief, Brian Duffy picthed 3 2/3 of hitless baseball to preserve the lead for the Boys in Blue. The Royals have one remaining game left this Sunday at 10 AM against the Dayton Astros.

The Royals control their own destiny as a win secures the 1st place seed, and a loss would drop them to 3rd facing a possible opening weekend Double-Header in the playoffs. A lot at stake in the final weekend of action for the Boys in Blue in the 2007 Regular Season. Game time is 10 AM, be sure to show up early to stake your spot on the hill.

Happy Thoughts!!
puppy
The Royals homepage has become a page of doom and gloom with all the Royals injuries and hard luck lately. So I thought I'd freshen up the page with a picture of this cute little puppy! I don't really know whose puppy it is, but puppies always make people happy... Unless you're allergic to them and they make your eyes water and itch, then it's just more doom and gloom for you!! Anyway, here's to those happier thoughts... :)

Oh, by the way, Veteran Jason Griffith hit his 6th career homerun as a Royal a week ago making him the sole Homerun Career Record holder over former Royal Jason Errett. Congratulations to Griff.

Royals Lose Another Veteran...
chadinjury1
The Royals faced off against the Dayton Rangers Sunday at AIA. The Boys in Blue lost the game in the final few innings, but also lost another player. #11 Chad Campbell, who has been known to leave it all on the field for the Royals, did the unthinkable again!! **FLASHBACK to a Late night at Kettering a few years ago** They Royals found themselves with only 9 guys, when Chad suffered a broken nose making a leaping catch on a line drive shot, but with only little Eric Franklin on the Bench he gutted it out and finished the game... **FLASHFORWARD** In the bottom of the 2nd inning in Sunday's matchup, #11 fouled the 1st pitch off the instep of his left foot, but again the only ones on the bench were little Eric and Haley Franklin and their injured Skipper. Eric Jameson already stepped up to help out before his stint on the DL was up, so there was no one left to replace him... Over the next 6 innings Chad sucked it up and again left it on the field for his teammates. Following the game #11 made the teams 3rd trip to the ER, he got the special Kettering Royals ER suite, where the specialist informed him that his season was complete... Campbell suffered a broken arch and was outfitted with a snazzy, space-age boot... He was unable to get the one with spikes on the bottom? :) So as the regular season comes to an end the Boys in Blue are doing their best to limp through their lenghty absentee list due to injuries.

With just 2 games left in the regular season the Boys in Blue are still in control of their playoff seeding with the Rangers, Royals, and Astros all within 1/2 games of each other. Be sure to come out this Thursday night and Sunday as the Royals wrap up their regular season shooting for that #1 Seed.

One Royal Bit by the Injury Bug..... Again
fullbodycast
As the season wears on some teams are plagued by injury. In the Royals case, only one player has been particularly plagued by injury this season. Only a few short weeks ago, #19 Eric Jameson, took a throw off the orbital bone which virtually left a small baseball size knot on his cheek. This past Sunday, 2 weeks healed, Jameson found himself the backstop for another pickoff attempt. As #19 led off second base, the Astros pitcher attempted the quick pickoff that caught the diving Jameson a couple inches up from the elbow. After shaking off the first courtesy runner offer from the Royals skipper, Jameson was replaced on the bag after returning following a foul ball in obvious pain. Upon reaching the dugout the Boys in Blue were in shock of the swollen mass that had formed so quickly on what seemed like such a small play... After a post-game trip, the Royals Director of Player Personnel found himself in a sling and facing a 15-day stint on the DL.

Royals Field General Injured in the Line of Duty
hand-injury1
Tuesday night began as a beautiful night for baseball for the top two teams in the tight MVABL race. As the game began the Boys in Blue jumped out to an impressive 7-0 lead after the top half of the first inning. But for the Royals Skipper that was the last glimpse of excitement on the evening. As the bottom half began for the Sox, their first batter reached base on 4 straight pitches, and would move over to second 2 pitches later. Royals starter, Kevin Reyonlds was able to get the first out of the bottom half on a high infield fly hauled in by Griffith. The Sox's next batter roped a rug-burner between Schab and Rudegeair on the right side of the infield. As the ball entered the outfield, Scott Falkowski fielded the ball and fired a low-flying beam to the plate. As Young rounded 3rd and headed to the plate it was a foot race to beat the throw. As the ball flew closer and closer to the plate Young was also bearing down in an attempt to plate the Sox's first run of the game. No one could've predicted the events that would unfold as the dust settled at the plate, Young was punched out as the Royals Skipper fielded the ball just in time to apply the tag to record the second out of the inning. Following the punchout, Franklin called time as most assumed to dust off the collision, but as he was checked by the umpire the tables were quickly turned. As the fans watched, the Royals and Sox tended to their fallen teammate and competitor to assess the situation. No one expected the sight in front of them as the red puddle began to pool in the dirt, Royals medical staff, Skipper's wife Molly (RN), and the Sox's scorekeeper did their best to contain the 8 inch gash they were dealing with. The Sox's scorekeeper was able to apply a quick t-shirt tourniquet to apply the much needed pressure to the wound. Molly then transitioned to EMT medical transport as their Honda Ody was pulled up to the field to escort the Royals Skipper to the Valley for treatment. After a few happy pills, handful of painful lidocaine shots, 1 tetanus shot, and 22 stiches (5 internal, 17 external) Dr. Greg was able to piece the wound back together.

In his absence, the Boys in Blue worked hard to preserve the win in the game that their Skipper would not see the end of. Not sure if they got the win one for the Gipper speach, but it was bit of happy news on that sad night for thei injured Skipper.

**On a serious note, I would like to thank all for the calls, text messages, and emails from the guys on the team and around the league. The season is probably over for me. However, for me it has always been about more than the game, but rather the time at the field just hanging out with everyone and having a little fun in the sun and sharing that passion for the game we all love, and that's not going to stop... It'll take some time to recover, maybe I'll get a few at-bats before the season ends, but if not I'll return to the field in 2008. Thanks again for all your prayers and concern, I'll see you at the ballpark.

Griffith Records 50th K
flamethrower
Royals Veteran Jason Griffith recorded his 50th strikeout of the season during his 4 innigs of relief against the Panthers on Sunday. For those fans not watching the league page, Griffith is leading the MVABL in Strikouts. Congrats from Royals Management on reaching #50 this season.

The Royals always known for the long ball, with Griff's deep blast on Sunday he ties Jason Errett as the Royals career Home Run leader with **5** !!

Royals Bash Brothers
record breakers
Each season it just seams that two Royals hitters just seem to click, and this years twin-killing combo would have to be Brian Duffy and Kevin Reynolds. Kevin and Brian are 1-2 in serveral offensive categories, Hits, 2Bs, 3Bs, AVG, and Slugging %age. As well as their bats at the plate, both members have also put in quality work off the mound this season as well as stellar defensive play in the field. With Slugging %ages close to .800 can either of them catch Royals Retiree Dave Rooker's 4 year old record, and Duffy is only .002 behind Rooker's 4 year old Batting Average record also set 4 years ago.

Tuesday, July 17
Royals Back on Track
Lightning Bolt
The Royals got back in the win column on Sunday with a 11-6 victory over the Dayton Panthers.   Royals Rookie Kevin Reynolds picked up his second win for the Boys in Blue with 4 innings of work in his start, and Griffith and Ubinger assisted keeping the Panther hitters at bay over the final 5 innings to seal the deal. The Panthers put up a fight with a crafty 1-1-3-3 defensive alignment that robbed many Royals hitters of would be hits throughout the game, but the shift didn't happen soon enough for the Panthers as the Royals racked up 8 of their 11 runs in the first 2 innings of play. The home game win broke the 3-game skid the Royals had been on during their road trip.

As the 2007 season winds down the MVABL teams all begin to jocky for playoff positioning. There is less than a game seperating the 2nd - 5th place teams. The Boys in Blue have a tough road ahead as the season comes to close with 2 games remaining with the 1st place Beavercreek Sox, 3 games with the 4th place Dayton Astros (only a 1/2 game back), and 1 with the 3rd place Rangers, who are also only a half game back. It will be an exciting race as the team plays out their final 6 games of the regular season. Be sure to come out and support your Boys in Blue and catch some exciting baseball.

Boys in Blue Suffer from Heat Stroke...
losing streak
As the summer sun heats up the summer, the Boys in Blue have cooled off a bit. After starting out 7-3 over the first 2 months of the season the Royals have lost their first 3 games of July, and 5 of their last 6... The Royals showed offensive life stroking out 13 hits in their 7 inning outting Tuesday night against the tough Sox team, 2 hits more than both games combined on Sunday for the Boys in Blue, but still fell after a few costly drop balls led to 6-back-breaking Sox runs.

The Royals are off this week for the All-Star break this weekend before heading back into action Sunday 7/15 against the Dayton Panthers. The Royals are up 2-1 in the series this year, and will be looking to get back into the win column. With only 7 games left the Royals are battling the tough competition, vacations, and injuries as the regular season is winding down. Be sure to head out to the park to cheer on your team as the charge into the last half of the season.

Royals pickup a pair heading into holiday bye
nostalgicbaseball
The 2007 MVABL season is 1/4 of the way complete, and the Boys in Blue find themselves with a 4-1 record and 1/2 game up on the Springfield Indians, the only team to hand the Royals a loss this season so far. The bats are hot, 9 of 15 Royals are currently posting averages greater than .400. Leading the team so far is off-season pickup, Kevin Reynolds. Kevin is batting .632, slugging 1.053, recording 5 multi-base hits, 8 stolen bases, and crossing the plate 13 times. Kevin has also provided 12 innings off the mound, picking up his first win as a Royal against the Dayton Panthers. But not to be over-shadowed, Royals Veteran Jason Griffith has recorded victories in his 2 starts this season, notching 29 K in 19 innings, and only handing out 3 free passes. The 2007 pitching staff is shaping up nicely with Griffith and Reynolds already having quality starts, and 2nd year Veteran Brian Duffy will get his first start of the season June 3rd. Out of the bullpen, MVABL Vet Scott Falkowski has worked his left-handed magic throwing 8 2/3 inning picking up his first win as a Royal in Relief against the Dayton Rangers 2 weeks ago, and anchoring the pitching barrage rookie Kyle Ubinger who has recorded saves in each of his last 2 outings.

With the heart of the 2007 season about to start be sure to make it out to the diamond to cheer on the Boys in Blue. Come out and watch as the Royals, and the rest of the MVABL teams, will play some games at the state-of-the-art Athletes in Action baseball sports complex. There are plenty of good seats available in the 850 seat grandstands. Check the schedule page and we hope to see you at the field.

Royals Rebound for the Win
After a tough loss to the Indians in a battle for the top spot in the MVABL, the Royals rebounded Sunday against the Rangers to get back in the win column. Royals Rookie, but MVABL veteran lefty Scott Falkowski was able to derail the Ranger offense long enough for the Boys in Blue to get retake the lead in the late innings with some timely hitting of their own. Another Royals Rookie, Kyle "Ubi" Ubinger sealed the deal picking up his first save of the year.

This Sunday the Royals will faceoff against the crafty Outlaws at 6:00 PM in their first nightcap of the season.

Royals Dig Deep for First Win
The 2007 MVABL season kicked off in exciting fashion. The Royals were able to rebound from their season ending loss to the Woodpeckers and get right back on track. With several new faces in the lineup, the squad got the job done behind veteran Jason Griffith's 11 inning CG. Be sure to check the schedule page for a full game summary and stats.

Up next for the Boys in Blue are the former old, but under new management, Brookville Panthers, who lost a heart breaker in extra innings. Kevin Reynolds is the Royals Projected starter. Be sure to show up early for a good seat and cheer on the Royals as the season gets rolling.

Royals 2007 Roster Announced
Press_Release
Royals management inks a deal for the final roster spot. The Skipper went to the war room looking to fill some big shoes lost from the 2006 roster. Losing 96 out of 200 innings off the mound there was some serious work to be done to gear up for the 2007 Season. The first key sigings for the Royals this off season included several free agents from the Dayton Angels and Bellbrook Reapers. Shawn "Rudy" Rudegeair and Scott Falkowski both join the Royals from the Angels, and Kevin Reynolds moves over from the Reapers. The Royals also inked a deal with a pair of MVABL Rookies; from Xavier, Chris Heitker, and Kyle Ubinger from The University of Dayton. These five players will add some key innings off the mound, solid gloves around the field, and tough bats at the plate to the Boys in Blue current roster. The season kicks off April 15th and the Royals management and Veterans can't wait to hit the field with their new teammates in the quest to return to the MVABL finals!

Royals Skipper Parties with the Stanley Cup
skipperandcup1
The Royals skipper got to experience the thrill of a lifetime this off season... He was able to spend the weekend with a good friend AND the Stanley Cup! Yes that's right you read that correctly... I was able to attend a party with one of professional sports most coveted trophies. Royals Fan Club member young Eric Franklin got to join Dad in this once and a lifetime experience. Over the course of the day, I was able to hoist and smouch on the hockey jewel! And to wrap up the evening Eric and I were able to drink Pepsi from the trophy's cup! It was a great weekend filled with an experience that I will never forget, but one that Eric won't remember next month, however he'll have the pictures to remind him of this great honor he was a part of!!

Royals Gear Up for Upcoming Season
royals-meet
After their long winter slumber, the Boys in Blue joined up to share some stories of old and predictions for the future. Still high of their near miss at the 2006 MVABL championship the Royals hope that they can rebuild and get back to the final game in 2007.

The Boys in Blue have lost some key names off the 2006 roster already. Hanging up the spikes and following in the shoes of Bill Murray from Caddy Shack, Ron Runyon has moved into the next chapter of his career living the dream as a golf pro. #14 will be missed in the dugout, but he says to keep him on the on-call list as he may still get the itch to play!! Also missing from the 2007 roster is crafty Ryan "Rhino" Hall. Ryan will be working as a casino boat skipper along the Ohio River trying to win that keno jackpot. The Skipper is still in talks with UD, who has finally had enough of party animal Andrew O'Donnell, and graduating him this spring. However, OD says the dollar signs coming from a job offer in Charolette out weigh the sunflower seeds and gatorade offered for him to re-sign with the Royals. Stay tuned to the Royals newswire for more details on OD as they unfold. Royals slugger and flame-thower, Nick Bironey has been MIA during recent contract talks. Royals management hopes to convice Biron to return for a second season with the team. And the final name missing from the full-time 2007 roster, Director of Southern Player Personnel Dan Losito. Losito is trying to wrap up his degree as a volcanologist this summer, but he will try to make make time for an appearance periodically throughout the summer for the Royals.

The Royals will have their first cage session this Sunday to get the season started. Anticipated start of the 2007 season is April 15th, which leaves only 5 short weeks to prepare for opening day. Dust off those cleats as the 2007 season is almost here!
