Kentwood Falcons Win Blue Collar Tournament in Indianapolis!!
The 95 Falcons played a great weekend of hockey in Indianapolis. They played a 4 game round robin and went 3-1 which advanced them to the finals where they faced the much larger Columbus team. The boys played a tremendous game of team hockey and prevailed 4-2 over the North Stars.

Congratulations to all of the players, coaches and parents of this great group of kids. We would also like to congratulate Cody Antonini as he was named the Tournament MVP!

We also want to wish Javier Avila the best of luck as he heals from his shoulder injury that he sustained in the tournament.

This was the second tournament win of the season for this determined group of hockey players.

See you at the rink!

Wings End Great Season
The Kentwood Mini Mite Red Wings have just completed a great season. The kids have grown in their skill and understanding of the game of hockey. Many have made new friends, created memories and sweated a lot!

Parents this year have made new friends, dealt with a long season and learned how to make hockey a learning experience for their children.

The team ended their season with a hard fought victory over a very good Muskegon team 3-2. The final game of the season was a fun event with the 2 Kentwood Mini Mite teams exchanging players and skating to a 2-2 tie.

Thanks to all of the coaches, players, parents and team sponsor St. Mary's Med Center. A thank you to Team Manager Steve Holt (Angela) for keeping us informed of all of the games, special events and tournaments. A special thank you to Tim Berry for all of the special Red Wings attire that you shared with us.

Hockey is truly a great sport. Being a part of the Kentwood Mini Mite Redwings has been very special. Thanks for the memories...

Remember, only 5 months until fall skills :-)
Enjoy your summer!

Wings Finish 3rd in Lakeland Tournament
The Kentwood Mini Mite Red Wings finished 3rd in the recently completed Lakeland Tournament. The team opened with a 4-0 victory over Southfield Omaha. Erik Stapleton led the scoring with 2 goals, Alec Miller and Owen Kane added 1 goal each. The defense was outstanding as well as the goalkeeping by Kara Scaturro.

The second game featured a rematch from the Kentwood tournament against the Lakeland Capitals. The Redwings skated hard and took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Owen Kane. After a morning game and too much fun at the hotel, the team ran out of gas and gave up 2 unanswered goals in the third period and lost 1-2.

After a good nights sleep the team woke up with the Kentwood Redwings attitude. They were determined and played an excellent game against the Lakeland X-Cel Eagles. The first period saw the Redwings take a 2-0 lead on goals from Owen Kane and Alec Miller. The game finished 5-0 on goals by Owen Kane, Devon Holt and Erik Stapleton. It was another superb defensive effort as Kara and team posted another shutout.

With their 2-1 record and 4 points Kentwood needed some help from the Southfield Omaha team against River Rogue. We needed a tie or victory from Southfield and with two minutes left in the 3rd period the game was tied 2-2. A couple of defensive breakdowns led to a victory for River Rogue and put them in the championship game. River Rogue defeated the Troy Vipers for the Championship.

It was a great tournament for the entire Kentwood Redwings team. The 2 shutout victories 4-0 and 5-0 were great games. All of the players did an excellent job.

Thanks to all of the parents who juggled schedules with other tournaments in Lansing and Port Huron to attend the games. Great Job Wings!!!

The Team Poses Before Their Game
Red Wings Skate at Van Andel
The Mini Mite Red Wings skated at Van Andel Arena at the Grand Rapids Griffins game vs. the Chicago Wolves. The Griffins exploded in the third period for 5 goals and pounded the Wolves 9-3.

The Red Wings skated hard but were unable to score on either the black or white teams. Jake McNamara and Kara Scaturro played excellent in net for their respective squads.

The team had an opportunity to meet hockey legend Gordie Howe before their time on the ice. The players didn't seem too impressed, but coach Derek could hardly speak when he shook Mr. Howe's hand. Ask him the story it is very funny!!!

Thanks go to Bob and Kathy McNamara for helping us set up this memorable event up with the Griffins.

Mini Mite Red Wings Finish 3rd in Kentwood Tournament
The Kentwood Mini Mites #1 Red Wings finished 3rd out of 10 teams entered in the recent Kentwood tournament. The team skated hard and really played some of their best hockey of the season.

The first game Saturday morning was against Lakewood where the Redwings donned their new tournament "Redwings CCM Jerseys". The new jerseys seemed to inspire the team to new heights. Kara Scatturo played an excellent game in goal and made some spectacular saves in preserving the victory. The Redwings won the game 4-2 including 2 goals that were disallowed by game officials.

The afternoon game on Saturday was against GRAHA #2. The Redwings had a tough start and fell behind 4-1 in the first period. After the shaky start they played inspired hockey and tied the game 4-4 with only 46 seconds to go in the game to get a very valuable point in the tournament.

The Sunday morning game was against powerhouse Woodhaven. The Redwings played an excellent game but came up short with 0-2 loss. The team dominated play in the first and second periods and ran into an excellent goaltender for Woodhaven.

The Redwings played Flint in the consolation game and really played hard. They skated to a 4-2 victory to send the visitors home with 4th place. The team was excited to receive 3rd place medallions and a team trophy. Each player will have an opportunity to take the trophy home with them during the next few weeks.

The team record is now 8-12-2

Mini Mite Red Wings Bring Home Hardware from Lakeland
At the recently completed Lakeland Shamrock tournament the Mini Mite Red Wings brought home the 2nd Place Trophy.

The Wings held on for a 4-4 Tie against a tough Novi Cougar Team. The second game on Saturday was against the Lakeland Scorpions and the Wings scrapped to a 1-0 victory.

Sunday morning pitted the Wings against the Lakeland Jr. Hawks. The Wings came out with fire in their eyes and posted a 7-3 victory. Their 2-0-1 record and 5 points put them into the championship game.

The opposition for the tournament trophy was against the Austin Stars. The Wings skated hard and came back twice from one goal deficits, but couldn't overcome a very talented team from Lakeland. The Wings came up just a bit short at 3-2.

The boys skated very hard and worked as a team. The parents are very proud of their hockey stars from Kentwood.

Congratulations Kentwood Mini Mite Red Wings!!

The second place trophy is visiting all of the players' schools and will than be on display at team sponsor, Florentine's Pizzeria & Ristorante.

Kentwood Earth Tech Eagles
Adray Mite State Champions...
Adray Logo 2
At the beginning of the season they had potential. Some of them had played hockey together before, others were new to the team.

This group of youngsters have had an amazing season so far. With a mix of 1st & 2nd year Mites, they have exceeded all expectations to date. This team has truly worked hard and listened to all of their Coaches. Jon, Ron and Curt have led them to this point in the season where they took advantage of an opportunity to win the Championship Game of the Adray Community Hockey League.

Congratulations to this magnificent group of young people. They faced a formidable opponent in Wyandotte. But, the Eagles came to play and skated away with a 3-2 victory. The Dearborn Ice Arena was loud with the parents and many family members and friends there to witness the championship game.

The Kentwood EarthTech Eagles have officially been crowned Champions. They played a very solid game with the timely scoring coming from Kara, Devon and Austin. Assists went to Adam and Jacob. A solid defensive effort was led by Tyler R., Tyler C., Brian and Adam. Some clutch goaltending by Zach kept the game close until late in the third period when the Eagles took to lead for good.

The clock seemed to be moving very slowly over the final 5 minutes hanging on to the 1 goal advantage. Congratulations to: Adam, Alec, Alex, Austin, Blake, Brian, Cody, Devon, Jacob, Justin, Kara, Tyler C., Tyler R. & Zach!

Eagles at Mt Pleasant
Mt. Pleasant Tournament Results
5 Games in 3 Days. Beginning Friday night the Eagles took to the ice for their first tournament of the season. After a sluggish opening period the Eagles posted a 6-2 victory over the Lansing Ice Bats. Alec led the way with 3 goals, Kara with 2 and Austin added 1 goal. Cody was solid in net for the Eagles.

Saturday morning brought the Mt. Pleasant Ice Dogs and a splendid 5-1 victory. The scoring was led by Austin and Kara with 2 goals apiece and Zach added 1 goal. Cody again played a solid game as goalie in front of a stubborn defense.

Saturday night the Lansing Prowlers were on the loose and determined to derail the high flying Eagles. The defense and goaltending were stellar and posted a 5-0 shutout of the stubborn Prowlers. Scoring for the Eagles were Austin with 2 goals, Adam, Devon and Alec added 1 goal apiece. Brian led the team between the pipes with a shutout.

Three games, three wins. The team advanced to the Semi-Finals on Sunday morning at 9:00 against the Midland Flyers. That morning the team was a little sluggish and skated against a very good Midland team. After 3 periods the score stood tied at 1-1 with the loan goal from Devon. A 5 minute overtime period came and went with no scoring by either team. That meant a shoot-out.

After eight shooters the Eagles were victorious. Scoring during the overtime period were Alec, Blake and Zach. Kara was unbelievable in net vs. the Flyers. Wow, you can't believe how cool the kids were and how nervous the parents and coaches were!!!

The finals at 2 p.m. came against the Bay County Blizzards. The Eagles seemed ready, but trailed 0-3 after the first period. The Eagles climbed to within 2 goals in the second period with a goal from Zach but fell to the eventual champions 6-2. Jacob added a late goal to keep it interesing. 2nd place trophies were received and the parents of these little people were very proud. Congratulations to the entire team.

The coaches did a good job of getting the team into an position to win. All of the kids played very hard and had a lot of fun on the ice as well as in the pool. Good Luck in Dearborn!!!

Falcons Defeat Phantoms

Monday, September 22
Let the Games Begin

Last weekend, the Kentwood Falcons kicked off the 2007-2008 with a decent showing in its two games for the weekend.

In their home opener, the golden voice of the Falcons, Mr. G, returned to announce the game as the Falcons defeated the Kalamazoo Kwings in an impressive 7-3 victory.  Last season the Kwings managed to foil the Falcons and dominated the series, but an improved Falcons team, showed their mettle in this victory.

On Sunday, the Falcons hoped to take the energy from their vicotry over the Kwings into Traverse City as they faced the recently renamed Traverse City Dave Harveys.  The Falcons dominated the puck and led the game 3-0 for the first 40 minutes of the game.  But the Dave Harveys staged an impressive comeback, scoring 3 goals in the last 5 minutes of the game to end with a tie.

This weekend, the Falcons face off Saturday against divisional opponents the Flint Phantoms in a preseason game.  The Phantoms will be looking for revenge for a tough spring league hockey shutout loss to the Falcons.

On Sunday, the Falcons will travel to Kalamazoo to face off against the Birmingham Rangers.  The Rangers are one of the top rated 95 age group teams in Michigan, playing in the top Yzerman division.  This will be a tough match-up that will prove to be good preparation for the Falcons as they prepare for their opening tournament of the season in Chicago next weekend.

Monday, October 1
To Chicago And Back

The Falcons faced some stiff competition in their first tournament of the season as they visited the windy city to participate in the MyHockeyRankings.com / Advanced Tournament Pre-Season Challenge.  The Falcons went 0-2-2 but all the games were tight in the face of the tough competition from all over the United States.  The team learned some valuable lessons from the games that will help them prepare for the upcoming season.  They also managed to have some fun playing in the pool and hanging in the hotel.  A couple of players made their way to St. Louis to check out the Blues play the Blackhawks and a few other players ventured into the windy city to watch the Detroit Tigers play the Chicago White Sox at US Cellular field.  The Tigers lost 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth as the boys were rooting for extra innings and the dads were rooting for the Sox to win so that they could get the boys back to the hotel for the final game on Sunday.  Overall the team played well, had fun and improved over the weekend.

This weekend the Falcons will travel to Grosse Pointe to take on the defending Peewee State Champion Bulldogs on Saturday and on Sunday will have their first league game as they host the Belle Tire 95 team.

 GO FALCONS!!!!!

Falcons Repeat as Port Huron Holiday Classic Champions

The Falcons found a way to defend their Port Huron Holiday Classic Tournament Championship with an exciting 2-1 Shootout Win over Belle Tire.  The Falcons went 2-1 in round robin play and faced a familiar League foe, Belle Tire in the Championship Game.  The game was very well played game and the Falcons went on top 1-0 in the 2nd period with a rocket shot from Noah Baldwin off of a faceoff in Belle Tire's zone.  Belle Tire tied the game with less than two minutes to go in the 3rd period with a rebound goal.  After a scoreless overtime period it went to a 3 man shootout.

Kentwood won the shootout with a Cody Kuster goal and Falcon Goalie, Bryce Taylor stopped all 3 of Belle Tire's shooters for the victory.  The team played great during the Championship Game and defeated a very good Belle Tire Team.

Congratulations to the coaches and players for a great team effort.  This marked the second consecutive Tournament Championship for the Falcons in the Port Huron Holiday Classic.
