Mohawks On A Down Slide Going Into The Playoffs

After a promising 5-0 start to begin the season, the Mohawks dropped 5 of their last 9 games to finish their regular season record to 9-5, same as in 2008. They enter the playoffs on a 2 game losing streak, and losing 3 of their last 4 after getting crushed 16-4 by the Bulls Sunday.

The Mohawks will play the Red Sox Tuesday night at Simmons Field. Game time is 6:30.

Mohawks Drop To 9-4
The Mohawks dropped to 9-4 as they lost to the Red Sox 12-8 Sunday. The Red Sox had only 8 guys which included a borrowed player. That's all the description that needs to be made.

Mohawks Let One Slip Away

The Mohawks let a great opportunity for a higher seeding slip away Sunday as they took on the Javelins at windy Bradford High School.

All seemed good to start as the Mohawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Kevin Garrity led the game off with a single and stolen base. Both Mike David and Scott Garland popped up to short and Angel Torres reached on an error, allowing Garrity to score.

It would stay that way until the 4th inning when Garland led off with a swinging bunt single, stole second, went to third when Torres would ground out and score on a Jim Galuska single to put them up 2-0.

Jason McGahan led the 5th inning off with a double down the left field line and went to third when Eric Dahlke singled to left. Dahlke would steal second giving the Mohawks runners on second and third with no out. Kyle Garrity popped up to the pitcher for the first out of the inning and Scott Frayer was beaned to load the bases. McGahan would score when Kevin Garrity would ground out. On the play Dahlke and Frayer moved up to second and third and Mike David would knock them in giving the Mohawks a 5-0 lead. Scott Garland singled to left, but David would eventually be caught in a rundown between second and third for the last out of the inning.

The Javelins scored their first two runs of the game off of starter Scott Garland in their half of the fifth to cut the Mohawks lead down to three.

The Mohawks got one back in the sixth when Angel Torres led the inning off with a double but was able to reach third when the Javelins outfielders collied into each other while trying to pick up the ball. Torres would score on  pass ball putting the Mohawks back up by 4.

That's when things took a turn for the worst defensively. The first two Javelins reached on errors when their cleanup hitter turned on one and hit a 3 run home run to cut their deficite to only one. The next two batters would reach on a single and another error and both would score when the Javelins pitcher doubled on a soft fly ball to center that got just under the glove of a diving Jason McGahan. That gave the Javelins their first lead of the game 8-6.

The Mohawks did battle back in the top of the 7th. Scott Frayer had doubled and scored on a Mike David single. David scored when Scott Garland doubled into the left center field gap, tying the game at 8.

The Mohawks could not hold the Javelins off in their half of the 7th as their first two batters of the game singled and both scored when their cleanup hitter doubled to left, putting them back up by to at 10-8.

In the last innig, the Mohawks again did show some fight as Jim Galuska led the inning off with a walk and eventually scored on a Jason McGahan single. McGahan would steal second and go to third when Eric Dahlke would ground out sharply. Kyle Garrity would ground out to end the game and the Mohawks lost a heartbreaker 10-9.

Offensivley Scott Garland went 3-4 with a double, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base and 1 run scored. Jason McGahan went 2-4 with a double, 1 RBI, 2 stolen bases and 1 run scored and Scott Frayer went 2-2 with a double and 2 runs scored.

Garland also pitched 5+ innings, giving up 6 runs with only 2 of them earned.

Another Thriller, Mohawks Improve To 8-2 In Ugly Fashion...Again

There are times in which a team can say, "they didn't beat us, we gave them the game." This was one of those games. The Mohawks were fortunate to win this game as the Slammers basically handed them the game on a silver platter. The Mohawks offense was just down right offensive. Yes, they managed to score 10 runs, but only managed 4 hits. 7 Slammer errors helped contribute to the cause as the Mohawks barely escaped with a 10-8 win.

With only 4 hits, there were no heroes on offensive to speak of. Scott Frayer did pitch 3 innings to record his first victory of the year and Mike David earned a 2 inning save, his 2nd of the season.

Mohawks Hold Off Late Inning Surge, Improve To 7-2

It was a typical Mohawks game Sunday as they held off a late rally by the Pirates, beating them 8-6 and for the second year in a row guaranteeing themselves at least a .500 record. It was typical in that, this wasn't an easy win. In fact it was down right ugly.

The game started when Pirates leadoff hitter Mark Hornickel hit an 0-2 change up to leff off of Mohawks starter Matt Siekert. Siekert then had Hornickel picked off, but in the rund down Mike David's throw got away from Scott Frayer allowing Hornickel to be safe and second. Tood Andrews walked, then Miguel Tanuz singled to center that got past Jason McGahan allowing Hornickel to score. On the play, Andrews also tried scoring but was throught out at the plate. Siekert then struck out Tom Carlson and Blain Ballard to end the inning.

In their half of the first, Siekert led off with a walk and stole second and would eventually score on a Mike David ground out to tie the game at 1.

Scott Sandberg led off the top of the 2nd with a single and advanced to second when Rodney Whitmore ground out. When Steve Neil struck out, the ball got past Mohawks catcher Scott Garland, allowing Neil to take first. While on th eplay, Sandberg tried scoring but was cut down at the plate after being tagged out by Siekert covering home and the Pirates would not score.

In the Mohawks half of the 2nd inning, Jason McGahan led of walking and then stealing second. Kevin Garrity laid down a perfect bunt to move McGahan over the 3rd. That's when the fun began. Scott Frayer hit a ground ball back to pitcher Garrett Sillanpaa who threw the ball to the third baseman as they had McGahan picked off between third and home. However the third basemen, rather than trying to get McGahan at the plate, decided to go to first, but Frayer had beaten the throw, McGahan scored and the Mohawks were on top 2-1.

The Mohawks would then take what would be at the time a commanding lead in the third as they batted around scoringn 6 times in the inning. Mike Thurow led the inning off with a walk and scored on a Matt Siekert single. Mike David Singled, allowing Siekert to go to third. Siekert then scored when Scott Garland ground to short, but the ball was bobbled by Steve Neil allowing all runners to be safe. Jim Galuska struck out and Angle Torres hit a ground ball to Neil, who threw the ball away which allowed David and Garland to score. Galuska would run for Torres and would later score. Jason McGahan singled and stole second and would score the Mohawks final run of the inning when Kevin Garrity singled, putting them up 8-1.

In the top of the fourth, the PIrates did get one back when with two outs Rodney Whitmore reached on an error by Scott Frayer. Whitmore would eventuall score when Steve Neil tripled to left to make it an 8-2 game.

It would stay that way until the top of the 8th, which was the final inning of the game. After Garrett Sillanpaa led the inning off flying out to center, Mark Hornickel and Todd Andrews both singled. They would score on a Miguel Tanuz single, who eventuall ended up at second and the score 8-5. Tome Carlson would strike out for the second out of the inning, but Tanuz during the at bat would steal third. Blaine Ballard sinlged Tanuz in making the score 8-6, bu that's as close as it would get when Scott Sandberg would fly out to right to end the game.

For the game offensively Matt Siekert was 2-3 with 1 RBI, 1 walk, 2 steals and 2 runs scored. Mike David was 1-3 with a walk, run scored and 1 RBI. Jason McGahan went 1-2 with a walk, 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases and Kevin Garrity was 2-2 with a sacrafice and 1 RBI. Siekert also pitched all 8 innings striking out 8 Pirates while getting the win.

Mohawks Lose Tough One
Sunday started off looking as though it was the Mohawks day as Sports PT had to borrow two players from the previous game to field a team and then Matt Siekert led the game off with a double and went to 3rd on a wild pitch. However that's as far as he got as Scott Frayer struck out, Scott Garland lined out back to the pitcher in which we still don't know how he got a glove on and Angel Torres flied out.
Mohawks starter Kris Kamakian was able to retire the first two batters of the Sports PT order, but walked Ed Wierzbicki, gave up a single to Johnny Passarelli, who both scored when Steve Mancusi doubled after one hopping the left field wall. Mancusi would score later score to put Sports PT up 3-0.
It was still 3-0 when Sports PT's leadoff hitter Frank Gagliardi led off the bottom of the 4th with a single and scored when Passarelli doubled to right to make it 4-0. It would eventually be 5-0 after 6 innings as Ed Wierzbicki would single and later score.
The Mohawks finally got on the board in the top of the 7th when Scott Garland led the inning off with a double, advanced to third when Angel Torres ground out to first and scored on a Jim Galuska ground ball that was bobbled by Mancusi at 3rd.
In the top of the 8th, Kevin Garrity led off the inning with a walk followed by Eric Dahlke getting hit by a pitch. Kyle Garrity laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt, moving Kevin Garrity and Eric Dahlke to 2nd and 3rd. Matt Siekert would then triple, scoring Garrity and Dahlke making the score 5-3. Scott Frayer was beaned and went to 2nd when Scott Garland ground out to 3rd. On a crazy play, both Siekert and Frayer would score when Angel Torres struck out on a dropped third strike as the ball got far enough past the Sports PT catcher, and the game was tied at 5.
In the bottom of the 8th Gagliardi led off the inning again with a double and went to third on a perfect bunt laid down by Ed Wierzbicki.. The law of averages from the top of the inning caught up to the Mohawks, as Gagliardi would then score what would be the winning run on a wild pitch by Kamakian. The Mohawks went down in order in the top of the 9th as Sports PT would win, 6-5, dropping their record to 6-2.
For the game Matt Siekert was 2-4 with a double, triple, run scored and 2 RBI's. Scott Garland went 2-4 with a double, stolen base and run scored, and Kevin Garrity went 1-3 with a single, walk and run scored.

Mohawks Improve To 6-1

The last time the Cubs and Mohawks faced each other, it was an emotional back and forth battle in which the Cubs ultimately came out on top. The sequal to that game was just as back and forth, but this time it was the Mohawks who came out the victors. After 3 1/2 innings of play, the Cubs had jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The Mohawks did not show any quit in this game, as they scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th to cut to lead to 5-3. In the inning, Scott Garland reached on a fielders choice and then stole 2nd, then reached 3rd on a fielders choice which ultimately was an error on the Cubs 3rd baseman on a ground ball hit by Angel Torres. Torres, listed as a non-runner for the game was replaced by Matt Siekert who stole 2nd. Kris Kamakian would then single in both Garland and Siekert to make it 5-2. Kamakian would then score on a Jason McGahan single making it 5-3.

The Cubs tacked on another run in the top of the 6th to make it 6-3, but the Mohawks answered back in their half scoring 3 times to tie the game at 6. Torres led the 6th with a walk and was then replaced by Garland who went to 3rd on a Jim Galuska double to left. Kamakian would then double driving in 2 runs, later scoring on a Scott Frayer single to tie the game at 6.

The score was tied going into the bottom of the 9th when Kevin Garrity led the inning off with a triple, but would then be thrown out at the plate trying to score when Kyle Garrity hit a shot to shortstop Angelo Marrone who made a perfect throw to gun him down. Kyle Garrity would then take 2nd on a Jim Ruffner wild pitch. Matt Siekert would fly out to center. Mike David hit a fly ball to right center field that fell when Tim Ruffner made a diving attempt at the ball, but could not come up with it and Garrity would score the winning run.

For the game Matt Siekert was 2-5, Jim Galuska was 2-4 with a double and run scored, Jason McGahan was 2-4 with an RBI, Kevin Garrity was 2-4 with a trip, Mike David was 3-5 while getting the game winning hit and Kris Kamakian went 3-4 with a double, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored.

David also pitched the final 3 innings of the game getting his first win of the year allowing no runs, 1 hit and striking out 2.

Moving Forward
After playing their worst game in team history while in their biggest game in team history, the Mohawks look to get back on the win column this week as they take on a tough Cubs team Sunday at Carthage College. Game time is 12:00.

Mohawks Have A Happy Fathers Day

The Mohawks played their overall best game of the year as they defeated to Bull 7-1 to improve their record to 5-0 on the season. With their highest single game hit total of the season of 12, Matt Siekert led the game off with a double and the hits just kept on coming when Mike David, Scott Garland and Angel Torres would follow with singles. Siekert, David and Garland would all score putting the Mohawks up 3-0 before an out was recorded. The Mohawks added runs in the 3rd, 4th and 2 more in the 8th to put the game away. Defensive was a huge improvement as the Mohawks, who committed 9 errors in the victory last week, only committed 1 error Sunday. For the game Scott Garland was 3-3 with 2 RBI's and a run scored, Angel Torres went 2-4 with 3 RBI's while Mike David, Scott Frayer and Eric Dahlke also added 2 hits each. Kris Kamakian improved to 3-0 pitching 5 innings allowing no runs with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk. David also pitched 3 impressive innings allowing 2 hits while striking out 5 Bulls.

The Mohawks biggest game of their existence come next week as they will face the only other unbeaten team in the league, The Lawmen at 9:00 at Simmons Field.

Mohawks Win In Ugly Fashion
Despite 9 errors, the  Mohawks improve to 4-0 by beating Square at Impact 6-5.

Mohawks Cruise Past Red Sox, Improve To 3-0
In a crazy day Sunday morning that saw a 20 minute rain delay with two outs in the bottom of the first, the Mohawks improve to 3-0 on the young season. They were in control virtually the entire game, but several squandered opportunities with men in scoring position and less than two out kept the game close at 3-0 until the 6th when they scored 2 runs to take a 5-0 lead. They would score another run in the 7th and then broke it open putting up a 6 spot in the 8th, topped by an Eric Dahlke grand slam. Angel Torres also went 3-3 with a walk and 3 runs scored. On the mound getting the victory was Kris Kamakian going all 8 innings, allowing only 2 runs, both unearned while giving up 4 hits and striking out 13 Red Sox.

Mohawks Improve To 2-0

The Mohawks improved their record to 2-0 Sunday by defeating the Javelins 9-2. The Mohawks took an early 2-0 in bottom of the first when Matt Siekert led off getting on base via an error and would eventually score on a pass ball. Scott Garland walked, advance to third on an Angel Torres single and score on a wild pitch. The defense fell apart in the 3rd for the Mohawks as 2 errors allowed the Javelins to tie the game 2-2. The Mohawks took the lead for good in the 4th when Garland led off the inning with a walk, Angel Torres belted his second hit of the game and Jason McGahan reached an error to load the bases. Eric Dahlke popped up to short, but there was a delayed infield fly called at the last minute. Garland didn't hear it called, so he ran home and scored making it 3-2. Torres and McGahan would then score as Kyle Garrity reached on an error, and would later score in the inning. It would stay 6-2 until the 7th when Mike Thurow, Scott Frayer and Jim Galuska would each single, and all would eventually score to make the final total, 9-2. Matt Siekert pitched and got the win. He started off a little shaky, but eventually settled down going 7 innings, allowing 2 runs, both unearned, giving up 5 hits while striking out 8. Scott Frayer came in to pitch the final inning, allowing 1 hit while striking out 1.

The Mohawks next game is Sunday at 9:00 against the Red Sox in Wilmot Field 2.

Mohawks Win Opener
With week 1 under their belts, the Mohawks squeaked out a 7-5 win over a much improved Somers House Slammers team Sunday. The Mohawks seemed to be in control the entire game, but some errors defensively played a huge role as 4 of the 5 Slammer runs were unearned. Overall, a case of the first game jitters for new players and dusting off the rust for returning, the Mohawks made the played they needed to make to come out on top. Leading the hitting attack was Scott Garland who went 3-4 with a double, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored and 1 stolen base. Kris Kamakian also helped his cause going 1-3 with 2 RBI and 2 stolen bases. Kamakian also picked up the win in the time shortened 7 inning game, going 4 innings while Mike David picked up the save pitching the final 3. The schedule will not get any easier as the Mohawks will take on the Javelins on Sunday, May 31st at 12:00.

Schmidt Coming Out Of Retirement, Also Sign Frayer

On Tuesday, the Mohawks announce the signing of Pat Schmidt to play on a part-time basis. Pat played with the Chicago Midwest Suburban League Cubs from 2001-2007 and was named as one of the team captains from 2006-2007. "Patto" is a catcher and can also play the two infield corner positions. In his solid career with the Cubs, 2006 was his best year offensively. He hit .396 with 19 total hits and 15 runs batted in while leading the team in hit by pitch with 10 as well as posting a team high on base percentage of .586. He also finished a close 2nd as the teams defensive player of the year. Pat is definitely going to be a new, positive energy to the team in 2009.

Also the Mohawks announce the signing of utility infielder and pitcher Scott Frayer. Scott comes to the Mohawks as a referral from Captain Kris Kamakian. He is sure to be a solid defender wherever he may be positioned and has great knowledge of the game and situations. The Mohawks expect great things from Frayer in 2009.

2008 Kenosha Mohawks Year In Review

2008 saw the first season of Kenosha Mohawks baseball come and go. Though the season didn’t end the way the team would have liked it to, they put up a good fight right up until the very end.

The Mohawks struggled to find themselves at the beginning of the season starting off 1-4. Missed opportunities at the plate with runners on base and lack of fundamentals on defense put the Mohawks on the map as a team that would not be able to overcome this horrible start.

Then July 9th rolled around when the Mohawks got their second win of the season by beating the Cubs 9-4. They started striking out less while putting the bat on the ball and started playing solid defense. The Mohawks would not lose another game (on the field) until September 3rd in round one of the playoffs against those same Cubs 7-6. They would end their regular season with a record of 9-5 (5th loss was a league forced forfeit).

The 2008 Mohawks actually began in September and October of 2007 when a few of the guys started working out. After taking November and December off, practices resume again in January at the Rec Plex in Pleasant Prairie, Gurnee Community Church and Warren High School.

The team was started by Scott Garland and quickly added a few guys that he had played with in the past. Guys like Mike Greco, Angel Torres, Mike David and Matt Siekert.

The Mohawks made their first move when 2007 Kenosha Cubs ace lefty Kris Kamakian joined the team. Kris brought leadership and experience along with a good fast ball, curve ball and change up. Kris didn’t disappoint as he was tough on the mound all year.

Not only did Kris bring leadership to the team, he also brought along infielder Jeff Alstadt, pitcher Shawn McDowell and catcher Eric Dahlke. Kris and Shawn were to be the Mohawks 1A and 1B aces in 2008. Unfortunately Shawn had to leave the team about a month before the season started due to personal obligations.

Jeff Alstadt stuck with the team and was a huge contributor throughout much of the season, especially with his glove on defense. On a Wednesday night in June, he made 3 diving plays in one game. Eric struggled a little to begin the 2008 season. He found his groove behind the plate and in the batters box from the 6th game of the season on.

The Mohawks also picked up outfielders Jason McGahan, Victor Castro, Steve Luna and the Garrity brothers Kevin and Kyle. Jason was huge for the Mohawks in 2008 in the field. Week after week making diving catches was a joy to watch. Victor started the season as a pitcher/outfielder. On his own will, putting the team first ahead of himself, to help the team he decided that pitching probably would not be best and actually finished up the season playing a solid 1st base. His bat also was big the second half of the season. Kevin Garrity was a great pickup in left field, splitting time with Jason McGahan and both Kyle Garrity and Steve Luna platooned in right field, and coming up with big hits at certain times during the Mohawks 8 game winning streak.

In 2008 the Mohawks also had Angel Torres, Mike Greco, Mike David and Matt Siekert. Angel was stellar at 3rd and at the plate in 2008, leading the team with 18 RBI. Mike Greco was solid at short and at the plate as well. He finished the season leading the team with a .464 batting average. Mike David was another good acquisition for the Mohawks. He gave them a couple quality starts on the mound. Matt Siekert was initially going to start his own team, but when that fell through decided to join the Mohawks. And the Mohawks are happy that he joined. He was stellar in the field, at the plate and on the mound.

2008 saw the Mohawks make history in that they, along with the Chicago Midwest Suburban League Cubs, were the first ever MSBL team (or any men’s league teams) to play a game at Miller Park, home of the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night, May 23rd. Though the Mohawks lost 9-5, the game was actually closer than the final score appeared in that they were leading 5-1 going into the 6th inning. A few defensive lapses here and their that the Cubs capitalized on and the Mohawks could not recover. The “Miller Park Game,” despite losing, was definitely the highlight of the 2008 campaign for the team.

The game had more than 400 people in attendance for this historic night, and anybody that knows anything about attendance to MSBL baseball games, 400 people is about 385 more people than a “normal” game attended. It was also more than the Milwaukee Brewer personnel were anticipating as well. The crowd was into the game from the 1st pitch to the last out. They were chanting and cheering all night for their respective teams. It was truly a night everyone will remember forever.

The Mohawks would like to thank all their sponsors throughout the 2008 season as well. Without your generous contributions for our fundraiser we had. If not for you, it would not have been a success and the team may not have played the “Miller Park Game.” So thank you to our sponsors. We hope to have your support in 2009.

We hope to see you again in 2009 as we intend on improving upon what we accomplished in 2008.

See you at the ball park.

Mohawks Take Disappointing Loss In A Thriller

Wednesday night saw the Mohawks 2008 season come to an end in a thrilling 7-6 loss to the Cubs. The Mohawks fundamentally were just not in the game the entire night. However, they did have the lead going into the 9th.

The Cubs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning, and scored another run in the 2nd putting them ahead 2-0. It would be that way until the 3rd when Scott Garland started the inning with a single. Due to a knee injury, Garland was declared as a non-runner for the game as Steve Luna came in to run. Matt Siekert then doubled as Luna was thrown out at 3rd. Victor Castro came up and battling with 2 strikes by fouling off pitches, eventually singled in Siekert to make it a 2-1 game. Castro would later score to tie it at 2.

It would stay that way until the 8th when the Cubs scored 3 times to take a 5-2 lead. Garland again led the bottom of the 8th with a single to left. This time running for Garland was Kyle Garrity, who would then steal 2nd and 3rd on consecutive pitches. The next batter Siekert walked giving the Mohawks runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs. As Siekert was on the move to attempt to steal 2nd, Castro came through again doubling in a run and later scoringing the tying run as Kris Kamakian reached on an error. Kamakian would steal second and reach 3rd when Jason McGahan and Angel Torres both got hit by pitches, then scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch giving the Mohawks a 6-5 lead going into the 9th.

The top of the 9th figured to be promising for the Mohawks as they brought in Matt Siekert to finish the game. The first batter of the inning singled to left and as he tried stretching it into a double was thrown out at 2nd by Kevin Garrity. Siekert would then walk the next hitter, hit the following batter and then walk the batter after that to load the bases. With the corners drawn in to cut off the runner at the plate, the number 9 hitter in the Cubs order hit a ground ball just past  Angel Torres at 3rd to give the Cubs a 7-6 lead. The Mohawks then went down in order in the bottom of the 9th when Kyle Garrity struck out, and Garland and Siekert both grounding out to end the game.

Overall it was thrilling game to be a part of. It's too bad there had to be a loser this night as both teams battled and fought hard, but unfortunately for the Mohawks, the Cubs took advantage of the final break given to them Wednesday night. The Cubs will move onto next Wednesday to face the winner of the Square At Impact vs. the Lawmen game.

Cubs vs. Mohawks In Round 1 Of Playoffs
The playoff schedule has just been announced and the Mohawks will take on the Kenosha Cubs on Wednesday, September 3rd. First pitch is slated for 6:30 at Simmons Field.

Sunday, August 24
Mohawks Win One For The "Dogs"

On Sunday, the Mohawks ended their regular season strong by beating the Cubs 12-2 at Nash Park. Though technically the Mohawks are at 9-5 due to a league forced forfeit, their on-field record is 9-4.

The Mohawks looked sluggish to begin the game Sunday against the Cubs. Guys were not ready to play. Offensively there were too many strikeouts and not enough hustle on the base paths.

The Cubs, who early in the game, looked like they wanted it more than the Mohawks, had a 1-0 going into the 5th when Scott Garland led the inning off with a triple. Garland would then score on a sacrafice fly by Jason McGahan. Angel Torres then singled and went to second on an errant pick off throw. Torres scored on an Eric Dahlke single to left, giving the Mohawks a 2-1 lead.

The Cubs would come back in the bottom half of the 5th tying the score at 2-2 on an unearned run.

Things then opened up for the Mohawks in the 6th when Matt Siekert led off with a walk then stealing 2nd. Victor Castro hit a ground to short that was booted that allowed Siekert to score. Mike Greco then got hit by a pitch, putting runners at first and second with nobody out when members of the Cubs started complaining about the dogs in the stands. After a discussion between the umpired allowing the dogs to stay, Kris Kamakian flied out deep to center. Garland then came up and doubled in a run and would later score to put the Mohawks up 6-2, never to look back.

Offensively on the day Garland was 2-3 with a triple, double, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Siekert went 2-3 with 2 singles, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. Castro doubled in the 4th inning off the center field wall. Torres went 1-4 with a run scored. Dahlke was 1-2 with 1 RBI, 1 run scored, a walk and 2 stolen bases, and Kyle Garrity went 2-3 with 2 singles, 1 RBI, 2 stolen bases and 1 run scored.

On the mound and getting the win was for Cub Kris Kamakian who went the distance giving up 2 runs, 1 earned allowing 6 hits, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.

The Mohawks now will be entering the 2nd season as the Kenosha MSBL tournament starts the week of Labor Day. As the number 3 seed, they will be playing on Wednesday, September 3rd at Simmons Field with a 6:30 first pitch. Their opponents are yet to be determined. Keep checking back for further updates.

Mohawks Win Again

On Tuesday night, the Mohawks won their 2nd game in 3 days, putting them on a 7 game winning streak while improving their record to 8-5 on the season by beating the Red Sox 7-2.

It wasn't an easy win for the Mohawks, who for the first time in 2008 finally played a 9 inning game.

The Mohawks took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, just to see the Red Sox get 1 back in the bottom half and eventually tie it in the 4th.

It would remain that way until the top of the 7th when Eric Dahlke led off with a double one hopping the left field wall and would later score on a wild pitch. Angel Torres double and Kris Kamakian also got on base via the hit by pitch as the Mohawks would eventually take a 5-2 lead. They would get some insurance runs in the top of the 9th as both Dahlke and Matt Siekert would reach base on errors and eventually score on wild pitches.

Siekert pitched a complete game while getting the victory allowing 2 runs with only 1 run being earned. Siekert also struck out 12 Red Sox.

The Mohawks look to end their regular season on a high note as they will play the Cubs Sunday at Nash Park. First pitch is slated for 12:00.

Monday, August 11
Mohawks Keep Rolling

The Mohawks won their 5th straight Sunday by beating the Red Sox 7-6 at Carthage College. By no means was this a pretty game however. It was a un-Mohawk like perforamce defensively as they committed 8 errors. "The game should never have been that close," said Scott Garland after the game. "We gave up what, only 4 hits? Yeah, it uh, it uh, it just shouldn't have been that close and I'll leave it at that." Mike David pitched a solid ball game going 5 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs, 1 of which was earned. Matt Siekert came in giving the Mohawks 2 1/3 innings striking out 5 batters while getting the save.

Offensively the Mohawks were spaked by Angel Torres who went 2-2 hitting a 3 run home run in the 3rd. Overall he had 5 RBI on the day, also getting hit by a pitch and was intentionally walked. Garland went 3-4 with a double, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base and 2 runs scored. Jason McGahan also had 2 hits with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Kevin Garrity, Kyle Garrity and Jeff Alstadt all went 1-3.

Even though it wasn't the prettiest game, everyone contributed in some way offensively as the Mohawks were able to pull away with their 5th straight win.

Mohawks Guarantee At Least A .500 Record

After starting the season 1-4, the Mohawks guarantee themselves at least a .500 regular season record by taking care of the White Sox 14-2 Sunday, winning their 6th straight game while improving their record to 7-5.

The defense got back to normal by only committing 2 errors. However, if there was any downfall for the Mohawks Sunday, it's that even though they scored 14 runs on 12 hits, they struck out a season high 12 times.

It was an overall excellent effort however. Offensivley, Scott Garland went 2-4 with 2 RBI, 2 stolen bases and 1 run scored, Matt Siekert was 2-2 with a double, 1 RBI, 2 walks, 2 stolen bases and 3 runs scored, Mike Greco was 2-3 with 1 walk and 1 run scored, Eric Dahlke was 2-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored and Kyle Garrity was 2-3 with 1 run scored and 1 stolen base.

On the bump getting the win was Kris Kamakian going a solid 5 innings allowing only 1 earned run while striking out 4. Jeff Alstadt came in the pitch the 6th inning allowing 1 earned run.

The Mohawks have a quick turn around as they will play Tuesday night at Simmons Field against the Red Sox. First pitcher is 6:30.

Mohawks Forced To Take Forfeit
Monday night the league forced the Mohawks to take a forfeit agaist the Lawmen when they were told the game scheduled for August 2nd could be made up at a later date. The Mohawks would not have been able to field a team, and though they gave the league 5 days notice of this and the league stating they would find another date for the game to be played, the league still penalized them. Though the team is not happy with this decision, the Mohawks will continue to play out the rest of the season as they have been improving every week.

Wednesday, August 6
Mohawks Win 4th Straight
For the second straight week, the Mohawks took care of the Javelins, this time in less dramatic fashion with an 8-4 victory.  The Mohawks scored all 8 runs as they batted around in 3rd inning, capped off by an Eric Dahlke 3 run home run. Mohawks starting pitcher Kris Kamakian pitched the entire game going 6 innings allowing 4 runs, 2 of them earned. A couple of the Mohawks offensive standouts were Victor Castro going 2-4 with 2 singles, 2 RBI and a run scored, Matt Siekert going 2-4 with 1 RBI, a run scored and a stolen base, Mike Greco was 2-3 with 2 singles, a run scored and a walk, Jason McGahan going 2-4 with a single, double and run scored and Steve Luna going 1-2 with a single, walk and run scored.

Mohawks On Winning Streak
This was a great game between the Mohawks and Javelins, which saw the Mohawks pull off an 8-7 win Sunday. The Javelins got off to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. In the bottom of the second, the Mohawks would score 3 times on hits by Kris Kamakian, Jason McGahan, doubles from Eric Dahlke and Angel torres and Mike David also getting credit for hit by pitch. It would stay that way until the top of the fifth when the Javelins scored 4 times to take a 5-3 lead. The Mohawks would answer in the bottom of the fifth scoring 4 runs of their own  to go on top 7-5. It would stay that way until the top of the seventh when the Javlins would tie the game at 7-7. The Mohawks would take the lead for good in the bottom of the 7th on a Matt Siekert flyout to right that scored Steve Luna from third. It was a great game overall with Siekert getting the win pitching 7 innings, allowing 7 runs, 2 of them earned while striking out 5. Kris Kamakian would shut the Javelins down in the 8th getting the save.

Mohawks Win 2nd Game This Week

Before the game, the Mohawks wanted to get a little revenge on the Square At Impact from their last meeting which was a complete mess of a game one Thursday night in June. They did just that by beating Square At Impact 5-3 Sunday.

The Mohawks began Sundays game already behind the eight ball, starting with only eight players for 2 1/2 innings. They showed a lot of heart and played some gritty defense behind starting pitcher Mike David not giving up any runs, despite having only eight in the field. The game really was not as close as the final scored indicated. Offensively the Mohawks had their chances to score early and often,  but they just could not capitalize. Then the 6th inning came around when the Mohawks batted around, scoring all five of their runs, and never looked back.

The story for this game however was the pitching and defense. David pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing 7 hits, 2 strikeouts, no walks and no strikeouts. David would however receive a no decision.

Kris Kamakian came in and pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs on a late 3 run home run to Ken Dentina, gave up only 3 hits, struck out 3 and walking 3. Kamakian got the win.

Defensively the play was pretty solid.  Center fielder Matt Siekert made a diving catch in the bottom of the 5th and in the bottom of the 2nd while still only having 8 defensive player, the "right center fielder" Jason McGahan made a great catching on a fly ball hit to straight away right. McGahan had to run a long way to track it down to save a possible run from scoring. On the infield, the Mohawks turned another two double-plays. The first came in the bottom of the third when second baseman Steve Luna flipped the ball to shortstop Scott Garland who threw to first baseman Kris Kamakian to end the inning. Garland then turned a 6-3 double-play to end the game. After the game, Garland stated that in his now 11th year of mens' baseball, he has never been on a team that has turned as many "routine-type" double-plays in one season as they have this year. Meaning of the 6-4-3 or 4-6-3 variety.

It was an overall solid performance by the Mohawks who look to finally be coming around a little bit. It's not going to get any easier however as they will face the 2nd place Lawmen this Sunday at Carthage College with a 9:00 am start time.

Thursday, July 10
Mohawks Earn 2nd Win!

In their first game since mid June, the Mohawks came out Wednesday night looking more relaxed than ever as they went on to beat the Kenosha Cubs 9-4. Matt Siekert took the bump for the Mohawks Wednesday night throwing a 7 inning complete game giving up 4 runs, 2 of them earned while striking out 9 Cubs.

Siekert helped himself offensively going 2-3 with a walk, 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, 2 stolen bases and 3 RBI. Other offensive notables were Victor Castro going 1-4 with 1 RBI, 1 stolen base and a run scored, Kevin Garrity going 1-3 with a single, 2 stolen bases and 2 RBI, Scott Garland going 1-2 with a single, 1 stolen base, 1 run scored and 2 RBI, and Kyle Garrity having his best game of the season going 1-1 with a double, 2 walks, 2 stolen bases and 3 runs scored.

Overall the Mohawks stole 9 total bases while cutting the strikeouts down from an average going into the game of 8.25 to only 6 Wednesday night.

The Mohawks next play Sunday at Simmons Field against the Square At Impact. First pitch is slated for 12:00 with Kris Kamakian the tentative starter for the Mohawks. The Mohawks will try to avenge an embarassing 1 run on 3 hit performance after the last time they met the Square At Impact.

Finally, Baseball Will Be Played Again
After the ridiculous scheduling of June with not one but two long layoff stretches, the Mohawks will finally be back in action and try to get in some kind of rhythm this Wednesday night against the Kenosha Cubs. Game time is 7:00 at Simmons Field.

Friday, June 27
Game Postponed

Mohawks Drop Another One
In the second game in consecutive nights, the Mohawks could not muster up more than 1 run on 3 hits the entire evening. As has been the case all season long, the Mohawks had opportunities, but 10 strikeouts pretty much killed any rally the Mohawks could muster up. Offensively Victor Castro went 1-2 with a double, stolen base and run scored, Eric Dahlke went 1-1 with a walk and 2 stolen bases and Jason McGahan went 1-1 with a walk and a stolen base.

Thursday, June 19
Flat Mohawks Lose To Javelins

The Mohawks played their first game in 18 days Wednesday night and the long layoff didn't help them at all. The Mohawks came out and looked pretty flat the entire game with very little enthusiasm or energy as they fell to the Javelins 11-5.

Starting pitcher Kris Kamakian didn't pitch bad, but unfortunately he didn't get much offensive support and 4 errors behind him in the field didn't help either. One bright spot defensively was from the Mohawks second baseman Jeff Alstadt who made 3 sparkling plays, 2 of which he had to leave his feet.

Offensively the Mohawks did have their opportunities loaded the bases twice in the game. Both times however, Scott Garland killed the rally by hitting into double plays. Overall Matt Siekert went 2-3 with a double, Kevin Garrity went 1-1 with two walks and two runs scored, Mike Greco was 2-3 with a double and an RBI, Angel Torres was 1-2 with an RBI, Garland was 1-3 with a double, stolen base and run scored, and Kevin Garrity went 1-3 with an RBI and stolen base.

Mohawks First Win

The Mohawks came out Sunday with everything against them. After an embarrassing loss in week two, the Mohawks were only able to field 9 guys Sunday. That didn't stop them from getting their first win in franchise history, beating the Red Sox 16-7. Everything seemed to click Sunday for the Mohawks from the first inning when they scored 5 runs. They never looked back as they got a solid performance on the mound from Kris Kamakian who pitched the entire 7 innings allowing 7 runs on 7 hits. In this league, allowing 7 runs is impressing. Defensively the Mohawks improved from week two as well with only 2 errors all game. Offensively while cutting down on the strikeouts, the Mohawks got major contributions from Matt Siekert who went 3-6 with a double and 2 runs scored, Mike Greco went 1-2 with 3 walks, 4 runs scored and a stolen base, Kamakian went 3-4 with 1 RBI, 2 runs scored and a stolen base, Angel Torres ripping the cover off the ball going 3-4 with 3 runs scored, 5 RBI, Eric Dahlke going 1-2 with 3 RBI, 2 Runs scored, and two walks and rounding it out was Mike David going 3-5 with 3 RBI.

The Mohawks will have a tough challenge this Sunday as they take on The Source Point Javelins. First pitch is slated for 4:30 at Simmons Field. Mike David will take the bump in hopes of giving the Mohawks back even in the standings.

A Game To Forget

In a game in that the Mohawks seemed to have no energy, it was reflective in week to of the season against the same Sports Physical Therapy team they played in week one. The Mohawks did see some new faces in the Sports PT team since facing them just seven days prior in that they had picked up some new players from the old Salvi Law team that folded earlier in the week.

It can be said that Sports PT caught the Mohawks at a good time in which it is possible they spent all their energy in an emotional game just two days prior at Miller Park.

Of the 19 runs the Mohawks allowed, only 5 were earned. It's a good bet that this effort or lack of will happen again in 2008.

On the positive, the Mohawks did double their run total from week one.

Next week the Mohawks will take on the Red Sox at 12:00 at Carthage College.

Mohawks Lose Opener

It was a cold somewhat overcast evening at beautiful Simmons Field in Kenosha, WI. The Mohawks looked to get off to a promising start to begin their first season of existance in the Kenosha MSBL. The Mohawks season looked like they were going to score early as leadoff hitter Matt Siekert singed to start off the game, followed by a bunt single by Scott Garland. Unfortunately for the Mohawks, they would be left stranded. The Sports Physical Therapy team came up in the bottom of the first and scored two runs. Mohawks starter Mike David was effective for the most part, but was getting squeezed by the umpire behind the plate, forcing him to throw pitches over the heart of the plate as he saw players Sazbek and Reese each hit home runs in the bottom of the third. Victor Castro came in the fifth and was welcomed to the league by Sazbeks second home run of the game. Castro pitched well, but the jitter bug got to him for at times he looked cool and relaxed, and at other times was a bit wild. Now with his first game on the bump behind him, Castro is sure to be effective the rest of the season. Siekert came in and pitched two thirds of an inning not allowing anyone on base while recording a strikeout.

Offensively for the Mohawks it took a few innings to get acclimated but they did manage to break through in the 7th when Garland led the inning off with a base hit to left. He then stole second and went to third as the ball got through to the outfield. Kris Kamakian on the next pitch blooped a base hit to left, recording the first RBI in Mohawks history. Kamakian would then steal second and score on a ringing double over the right fielders head by Jeff Alstadt. Alstadt would later score the third and final run of the ball game for the Mohawks.

Overall offensively for the Mohawks Matt Siekert fininshed the game going 2-4, Scott Garland went 2-4 with a stolen base and a run scored, Kris Kamakian went 1-3 with an RBI, stolen base and run scored and Jeff Alstadt went 2-3 with a double, 2 stolen bases a run scored. Former Kenosha Twin Mark Ericson played his first game at Simmons Field in nearly 20 years, and just missed a home run by a few feet.

Overall the game was closer than the final score came across. The defense played pretty well overall as the offense finally got going late in the game. The Mohawks will chalk this one up to experience and will be coming out ready to play some effective ball come next weekend.

On Sunday, the Mohawks announced the signing of Matt Siekert. Matt played last season with a few guys on this years roster on another team in the league. Siekert was initially going to try and start up his own team in the new Kenosha MABL, forntunately for the Mohawks he decided to join them instead. Matt will be a tremendous asset to the team with his left handed bat and his ability to track down balls in the outfield. The Mohawks are hoping to be able to utilize him on the mound in 2008 as well.

Monday, March 17
MOHAWKS MAKE 2 BIG SIGNINGS!!!

On March 16th the Mohawks signed two more players to the team. The first signing was David Perry. Perry comes to the Mohawks after playing a few years some leagues out of Chicago. He was referred to team by CF Jason McGahan. Perry plays shortstop and second base, and brings a tremendous bat from the left side.

The Mohawks other big signing was that of catcher and first baseman Mark Ericson. Ericson is no stranger to playing in Kenosha as he played the 1987 season with the Kenosha Twins, then a minor league offiliate of the Minnesota Twins. Ericson stated that the itch of playing ball was back, and the Mohawks are happy to have him.

MOHAWKS PICK UP 2 PLAYERS

The Mohawks picked up 2 players over the weekend. They picked up Jeff Alstadt and Shawn McDowell. Both players came as a referral from pitcher and first baseman Kris Kamakian. Alstadt comes to the team having played ball at Western Illinois University. He will most likely be used in the middle infield and can pitch in relief if needed.

McDowell comes having formally playing ball for 2 years at Augustana. He is primarily going to pitch, but he can also play the corner outifled positions as well as 3rd base.

Both players figure to be big pickups for the Mohawks in 2008. Their next practice is gong to be held on Saturday, January 12th from 5-7 pm at the Rec Plex in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

Saturday, December 27
A Little About The 2008 Mohawks!

The Kenosha Mohawks will begin their inaugural campaign in 2008 in what will be the leagues third year of existence.

The team will be led by Scott Garland who began playing in the old Chicago MABL in 1997 with the Cary Yankees. In 1998 he moved to the Tigers of the old Prairie State League before the team folded and went to then the Chicago Mohawks, which folded in 1999. In 2000 Garland was one of 5 guys from the old Mohawks to start up a team in the Chicago Midwest Suburban League called the Pirates. He left the team in 2002 to join the Crystal Lake Cubs. Garland played with the Cubs until 2007 when he decided to start up this team so he can be closer to home. In his 5 years with the Cubs he went to 2 All-Star Games, won 2 MVP awards, 1 batting title, 1 defensive player of the year award and 1 sportsmanship award, and was team captain for 3 years. Garland also played about 12-14 games in 2007 with Square At Impact in the Kenosha MSBL. He hopes to fair better in 2008 with the Mohawks than 2007 with S.A.I.

Scott will be joined on a part-time basis by the current manager of the Crystal Lake Cubs of the MSL C.J. Bergdahl. Bergdahl has been managing the Cubs since 2001 and has made his club one of the most well respected teams in the entire Midwest Suburban League. Garland hopes that the hard work that Bergdahl put into the Cubs will rub off on himself and make the Mohawks a respected team in the Kenosha MSBL.

Also joining the Mohawks are two 2007 teammates of Garlands from S.A.I. Mike Greco and Angel Torres. Greco and Garland were also teammates in 2006 with the Cubs. Greco brings a quick bat and a lot of stamina to the field. He will be a very welcomed addition to the team.

Torres surprised a lot of people in Kenosha last year. Don't judge a book by it's cover when it comes to Angel because he is athletic. Garland has said that Angel probably has the best attitude he has ever seen on and off the field which is more important than anything else.

Yet another Cubs teammate of Garlands will also be joining the team in 2008 and that is starting pitcher Mike David. David spent 3 season with the Cubs and was one of the most consistant pitchers in the league. He doesn't walk a lot of people and get's ground balls. Mike will make an immediate impact in the league once the season begins.

Kris Kamakian will be joining the Mohaws in 2008. Kris played with the Kenosha Cubs in 2007 and made the move for he works with a mutual friend of his and Garland. Kamakian brings a solid stick to the plate and his left handed presence on the mound will sure be help out the Mohawks staff. Kamakian will turn out to be a huge pickup for the Mohawks in 2008.

Another pitcher that will be joining the Mohawks is Victor Castro. Castro played in a scrimmage game last season with S.A.I, but decided that he wasn't ready to go in 2007. Therefore with plenty of practice during winter workouts and getting his arm strength back from his glory days pitching at Carmel High School, he should be pretty solid in 2008.

Kevin and Kyle Garrity will come into 2008 ready to play as well. Scott met Kevin in 2007 through his church where they played softball together. Kevin will be sure handed with the glove and a nice switch hitter at the plate. Kyle will be a nice utility infielder and once he gets a little more practice under his belt will be a good ballplayer in the league.

Matt Archibald "Archie" will be another part-timer in 2008. Another person Garland met through church and softball, Matt comes to the team with a great attitude. The Mohawks will most definitely benefit from Matt when he can make games just on his attitude alone.

Pete Arterburn was to play in 2008 for the Mohawks but found a new position in which he will be moving to North Carolina. Garland stated that Pete is one the most enthusiastic people he has ever known and that enthusiasm, his athletic ability, and is overal true leadership will be missed. As long as this version of the Mohawks are in existance, Pete will always be a member of the team.

Jason McGahan will also be playing with the Mohawks in '08. Jason comes as a referral from Pete. Jason is an outfielder and has the itch to play ball again. The Mohawks are excited to have him on the roster.

The Mohawks are still looking for more players for 2008. If you are interested in playing and would like to tryout please contact Scott Garland at scottgarland@wi.rr.com or by calling 847-217-1037. Please provide your age, position and previous baseball experience.
