Bandits Claim NWCART Regional Title

KEARNS, UTAH: The Kennewick Junior Bandits claimed the Championship Trophy on Tuesday at the Northwest Class A Regional Tournament (NWCART) at beautiful Gates Field in Kearns, UT.  The day began with a matchup against the Pioneers of Powell, Wyoming. The Bandits opened the scoring with 1-run in the top of the 1st-inning.  The Bandits led 1-0 at the end of 2-innings and then scored 5-runs in the top of the 3rd to make it 6-0.  The score remained 6-0 until the bottom half of the 8th-inning when Wyoming was able to push 4-runs across to make the score 6-4 at the end of 8-innings.  Wyoming held the Bandits to no runs in the top of the 9th.  In the bottom of the 9th, Wyoming was able to push one more run across to make the final score 6-5 Bandits. The Bandits were led by the pitching of Bryce Jackson (7-innings), and Adam Sanders, Julian Rojas, and Ty Jackson in relief.  Matt Mendenhall was 2-4, 2B and Mike McAdie was 2-3, 2BB for the Bandits. The win set up a re-match with Montana for the Regional Title.

In the Chanpionship game, the Dodgers from Laurel, Montana opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd with a 3-run homerun by Clay Graber. The Bandits answered with 5-runs in the top of the 5th to take a 5-3 lead.  Montana answered with one run in the bottom of the 5th to make the score 5-4 Bandits at the end of 5-innings. The score remained the same until the top of the 8th-inning when the Bandits scored 2 more runs and held Montona scoreless in their half of the 8th to make the score 7-4 at the end of 8-innings.  Montana held the Bandits scoreless in the top of the 9th.  In the bottom half of the 9th, Montana was able to score 2-runs and had the bases loaded with 2-out when Brian Bowe got the last batter to ground out to A.J. Henderson at 2nd base to secure the win for the Bandits. The Bandits got 7-1/3 solid innings of pitching from Brock Marston and 1-2/3 innings of relief from Brian Bowe in the win.  Clay Graber was 3-5, HR, 4-RBI, Joe Binstock was 2-5, 2B, and Brian Flotkoetter was 2-4 for Montana. Mike Tsoukalas was 2-5, 2B, Matt Mendenhall was 2-5, Mike McAdie was 2-4, and Bryce Jackson was 2-5 for the Bandits.

Bandits Get Back On Winning Track

KEARNS, UTAH: The Bandits rebounded from their loss at the Northwest Regional Class "A" Regional Tournament (NWCART) in Kearns, UT with a 12-7 win over the Alaska State Champions in a loser-out game.  The Bandits got seven solid innings of pitching from Gregg Lowery,  followed by one inning each frm Adam Sanders and  Ty Jackson.  The Bandits will face Powell, Wyoming at 12:30 on Tuesday in a semi-final game.  The winner of that match-up will face Laurel, Montana for the Northwest Regional Championship about 30-minutes after the completion of the game.  Montana was beaten by Wyoming on Monday, 11-5.

Sunday, August 9
Bandits Suffer First Loss At NWCART

KEARNS, UTAH: The Bandits suffered their first defeat of the 2009 Northwest Regional Class "A" Regional Tournament (NWCART) in Kearns, UT with a 2-1 loss to the Dodgers from Laurel, Montana. Laurel was led by pitcher Clay Graber who threw a complete game against the Bandits. Laurel opened the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Bandits held them through 5 innings to that 1-0 score. The Bandits evened things up 1-1 in the top of 6th when Mike McAdie scored Matt Mendenhall on a sacrifice fly. Unfortunately, the Dodgers answered in the bottom of the 6th with their 2nd run, which proved to be all the insurance they would need. The Bandits got a stellar 6-inning performance from Brian Bowe and 2-innings of shutout relief from Brock Marston in the defeat.

Saturday, August 8
Bandits Cruise Over Powell, Wyoming

KEARNS, UTAH: The Bandits continued their winning ways at the Northwest Class "A" Regional Tournament (NWCART) in Kearns, UT. The Bandits cruised to a 24-7 win over the Pioneers from Powell, WY. Wyoming opened the game with one run in the first inning. The Bandits answered with one run in their half of the 1st. The Bandidts scored 5 in the 2nd to take a 6-1 lead after 2 innings. Wyoming rallied to within 6-5 in the top of the 4th. The Bandits anwered with 15 runs over the 4th and 5th innings to put the game away. The 10-run rule after 7-innings was invoked in the win. Julian Rojas (4-innings) and Adam Sanders (3-innings) combined on the mound for the win. The Bandits will face the winner of the Montana and Alaska game at 6:00 pm Sunday.

Friday, August 7
Bandits Get First Win At Regionals

KEARNS, UTAH: The Bandits opened play at the Northwest Class "A" Regional Tournament (NWCART) at Gates Field in Kearns, UT with an 8-7 win over the Utah State Champions. Bryce Jackson pitched 5 solid innings and Gregg Lowery threw the final 4 innings to get the Bandits the win. Utah opened up an early 3-0 lead. The Bandits rallied to tie the game at 3-3 at the end of 3 innings. Utah took a 5-3 lead and the Bandits answered with one run to make it 5-4 Utah at the end of 5 innings. The Bandits then plated 3 runs in the 6th to make it 7-5 at the end of 6 innings. Utah answered in their half of the 7th with one run to tie the game at 7. In the bottom half of the 7th, Brock Marston singled home Mike McAdie for what turned out to be the final margin of victory, 8-7. Lowery held Utah to no runs over their final 2 at bats to seal the victory. The Bandits will face Pioneer, WY, winners over Bonneville, ID, on Saturday, 8/8.

Tuesday, August 4
Bandits Claim Jr. Legion State Title

The Bandits are the 2009 Junior Legion "AA" State Champions! The Bandits, winners of the Cheney Bracket faced Chehalis, winners of the University Bracket, for the Washington State Championship.  The game was a 9-inning game, instead of the regular 7-inning games played during the regular season and in the District and earlier State Tournament games. Bryce Jackson and Spencer O'Neil combined on the 9-5 win that will send the Bandits to the Northwest Regional Tournament in Kearns, UT. Brock Marston was voted the State Tournament MVP. The Bandits begin play at the Regional Tournament on Friday, August 7th. Game time is tentatively scheduled for 9:30 am (8:30 Pacific Time)

Wednesday, July 29
Bandits Win Cheney Bracket - Will Play for State Title

The Bandits suffered their first loss of the 2009 Jr. Legion State Tournament, falling 7-1 to the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles.  Since it was the Bandits first loss, that gave tham a bye for the first championship semifinal in the Cheney Bracket.  The first game featured a rematch from earlier in the tournament between the Eagles and Lakeside Skyline.  Lakeside had won the earlier game 10-4, sending the Eagles to the losing bracket.  The game was tied 1-1 at the end of 7-innings.  The teams battled back and forth with Graham-Kapowsin pulling off an incredible 3-1 win in 12 innings!.

That set up a re-match with the Bandits for the the champion of the Cheney Bracket. The Eagles opened with 6-runs in the first inning.  The Bandits battled back, tying the game at 7.  The Eagles had an 11-10 lead in the bottom of the 7th inning when the Bandits completed the unbelievable comback with a 3-run walk-off homerun by Ty Jackson. The Bandits will play Chehalis for the state title.



Tuesday, July 28
Bandits Continue Winning Ways

The Bandits kept their run in the winners bracket alive at the 2009 Jr. Legion State Tournament with a 13-2 win over Lakeside Skyline.  The Bandits got six solid innings of pitching from Brian Bowe and a scoreless 7th inning from Gregg Lowery to seal the win.  The Bandits will play Graham-Kapowsin in a semi-final game on Tuesday, 7/26 at 4:30 pm.

Wednesday, July 22
Bandits Headed to State

The Junior Bandits qualified for the 2009 State Tournament by taking the third seed from our district.  The State Tournament consists of 16 teams and will take place in two locations; 8 teams at Cheney High School in Cheney, WA and 8 teams at University High School in Spokane, WA.  The Bandits will be playing in Cheney, WA. Below are links to the bracket at each location.

Monday, July 27
Bandits Open State with 2 Wins

The Junior Bandits opened the AA State Tournament on Saturday with a 7-0 win over the host team Cheney Summer Hawks. Bryce Jackson threw a complete game shutout for the Bandits.

On Sunday, the Bandits were matched up with the Anacortes Steamers, a 14-0 winner over South Kitsap.  The game was tied 4-4 going into the bottom of the 6th inning.  The Bandits scored 4 runs and held the Steamers to 1 run in the top of the 7th to seal the 8-5 win over the Steamers.  Ty Jackson, Julian Rojas, and Spencer O'Neil combined to pitch for the win.

The Bandits meet Lakeside Skyline today, 7/27 at 4:30 pm at Cheney High School.
