Welcome to the Kenmore Little League Web Site!
The operation of this site and the information presented by it are brought to you by the volunteers that make up the Kenmore Little League Board of Directors (people just like you volunteering their time to support the Youth of our area). We're hopeful that you locate the information you seek about our program and that your visit to our site is beneficial. Sunday, July 13 update on the fields Hey Folks-
For all of the ‘downers’ that I send your way (I’m talking ball fields and emails, not cattle) it’s a pleasure to be able to forward you the following email with a link to the Kenmore Blog site. I received the email this evening and I think it’s worth clicking the link and catching a glimpse of what took place at the City Council meeting last night.
The Council voted 4-3 in favor of completing the design and construction documents for a new ball field at Wallace Swamp Creek Park. I don’t have complete info on what this means but my guess is that once the docs are completed then the Council will have to make a determination on how to proceed…or if at all.
Voting in favor: Mayor David Baker Randy Eastwood Glenn Rogers Allan Van Ness
Opposed: Laurie Sperry John Hendrickson Milton Curtis
We should be appreciative and supportive of what Baker, Eastwood, Rogers and Van Ness have done. There is still a lot to do to move this forward but this is a large step in the right direction. Since my email is not being sent league-wide please take the time to send these four a “Thanks”…if you don’t, likely nobody else will.
Also note on the blog about the Bastyr construction and the field impacts. Per my recent conversations with David Odiorne and Daniel Church they intend to commence construction on the dorm units without impacting the ball fields. This includes no loss of fields for the construction staging area or the actual housing unit locations. The construction of the dorms fall under a conditional use permit and existing zoning and can be constructed without going through the master planning process. The ball fields will be impacted in this master plan (it is to be submitted to the City by the end of the year). Bottom line: Bastyr is proceeding with their plans to create on site housing and their long term master plan while at the same time creating minimal disruption or adverse impacts on the ball field users. This bodes well for continuing use of the fields on a short term basis.
Bastyr’s efforts are also worth an acknowledgement and Thanks! [David Odiorne – dodiorne@bastyr.edu]
State Parks Commission meeting is still scheduled for Thursday, August 7th at Anacortes. This will be the deciding vote by the Commission on whether to proceed or not with the ball field renovation plan at St Edward.
Thanks, Brent
Tuesday, June 24 Great Baseball Summer Camp click here for BaseballPositive.com On Monday June 23rd Mark Linden of Baseball Positive gave a clinic for all 3 of KLL's All Star Teams. Among the coaches in attendance were Mark Mayberry, Todd Short, Eric Clarke, Stephen DeCourcy and Gregg Fothergill. The introductory baseball clinic was very informative and provided the players with many insights on how to improve their skills. If you are looking for a camp for your baseball player, then this just might be the perfect one for you. Baseball Positive 'Play the Game' Camps are held from June 30th - August 22, for players 12 and under at locations throughout King and S. Snohomish counties. Baseball tips, drills, coaching clinic information and nutritional/conditioning information is also available on the Baseball Positive website. Camps for 13+ will be added in August. The camp is unique in its content. Structured instruction is provided throughout the week based on game occurrences. The vast majority of camp time is spent playing live games. Each team has its own instructor/coach. The instructors do all the pitching, which keeps the games moving at a fast pace. Participants will get 50+ at-bats during the week and hundreds of base running and defensive situations. It is a seasons worth of play packed into a week. Please see and use the above contacts for the City of Kenmore. Issues and concerns areas follows: • Remedy the lack of community ball fields as Bastyr fields go away. • Recognize the responsibility that a city has to provide parks and active recreation. • Solutions require dollars. Recognize the need for funding (council would not support a parks bond issue). • Provide leadership to remedy the situation – there has been a complete lack of leadership on this issue.
Below is the contact for 32nd District Rep Maralyn Chase. Concerns about Rep Chase: • Acknowledge that this park is heavily used for community recreational purposes. • Why will she never support ball fields in this park and yet ball fields have been a part of the original architectural design? • Why is she ignoring the will of the community, advisory committee, state parks commissioners and city?

Washington State Parks – Don Hoch, Puget Sound Region Manager, don.hoch@parks.wa.gov
Feel free to send Don Hoch a constructive email on your support for the proposed ball field plan at Saint Edward State Park. Don and his staff are working hard to address all issues satisfactorily. See points of discussion below:
• With the loss of the Bastyr fields the community is inneed of new ball fields. • This field has been used for decades for organized youth sports. • St Edward State Park was designed for and has been used for active recreation. • Washington State Parks commissioners approve management plan allowing for up to three fields. • St Edward State Park Advisory Committee recommended allowing for up to three fields. • Community overwhelmingly supports renovation plan allowing for up to three fields.
