2009 DEFENSIVE DANDIES
 |
|
|
 |
Congratulations to KC Power 16-1, TAYLOR MIGLIAZZO, who was selected by Prepvolleyball.com as one of the top "Defensive Dandies" for 2009.
http://prepvolleyball.com/content/view/2191/384/
Taylor Migliazzo, Fr., St. Teresas (Kansas City MO) Heres what KC Power coach Mike Stowell had to say about the libero who has led Power to the top of the 16s national rankings: Taylor is the driving force behind our offense with her impeccable serve receive skills. She wants to pass every serve that comes over the net and leads the charge of running a balanced and temp driven offense. She passes incredibly well off line and when using her hands. Defensively, she frustrates opposing teams by consistently digging the extremely hard driven swings and then will follow that up by chasing down the most elusive of short tips. She is disciplined enough to hold her base when she's supposed to and makes difficult plays look effortless. Her hitters can swing away and know that she is always there to cover every swing. She is just as tough mentally and has a calming effect on her teammates.

POWER 16s PLAYERS RECOGNIZED BY PREP VOLLEYBALL
Top High School Sophomores:
HIGHEST HONORABLE MENTION (50)
Hanna Forst, 5-10 MB, St. James Academy (Lenexa KS) – Forst used her agility, mobility and jumping ability to dominate the net for the Thunder, one of the nation’s top teams. She finished 2008 with 219 kills, which ranked third on the team; and 81 solo blocks, which placed her second. Forst also set a school record for hitting percentage at .510. She was named to the state tournament team and was a Second Team All State selection in Class 4A.
Grace Whitley, 6-0 MB, St. Teresa’s Academy (Kansas City MO) -- Whitley was a force in the middle and back row for the Stars in 2008. She led the team in kills, blocks and service aces before her ankle injury sidelined her until the end of the year. She averaged 3.5 kills per game and 1.2 blocks per game and played her best against the Stars’ fiercest rivals.
Michaela Boehm, 5-9 MB, Archbishop O’Hara (Kansas City MO) – Named First Team All State despite missing significant time due to injury, Boehm still managed 280 kills and 72 blocks in 2008 and was on the floor when O’Hara won its second consecutive Missouri Class 3 title. Boehm also was Honorable Mention All-Metro.
Top High School Freshman:
THE FROSH 59!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shelby Workman, 6-0 RS/S, Bishop Miege (Shawnee Mission, Kansas) – Workman took over the right side for graduated Gatorade Kansas Player of the Year Kathleen Ludwig and played like a Ludwig clone, leading the Stags to the 5A title in 2008. She finished the year with 315 kills, 100 more than anyone else on the team, while adding 81 blocks, 156 digs and strong serve-receive passing to the cause. She was First Team All State 5A, the only freshman so recognized, and a member of the all state tournament team.
