Kansas City Legends World Cup '89-'90

KC Legends World Cup '89-'90
Welcome to the website for the KC Legends World Cup 89-90 boys premier soccer team. The Legends U18 boys have completed their year and are now beginning there respective college careers. Players were drawn from across the metropolitan Kansas City area and played at the highest levels in the mid-west. The team was a member of the Kansas Premier League and played in the A League/Champions League at Heartland Soccer, the Kansas City areas most competitive premier soccer league. The team traveled widely having played in Houston, St. Louis, Memphis, Austin, Phoenix, Rockford, Muscatine, IA and Indianapolis among others places. The team was a 2006 and 2007 Kansas State Cup semi-finalist.

Monday, October 6
Mid-Season Update

Here's a few tidbits from the mid season:

  • Reed Parker is playing major minutes and got his first goal for Dominican University this last weekend
  • Matt Newman has played in 10 games, starting 7, for New York University
  • Nick Alexander has seen action in multiple games for undefeated Trinity university
  • Dave Sievers has tallied three goals for Blue River CC
  • Zach England is playing significant minutes for 7 win and 4 loss Wartburg University
  • Jared Robinson has made at least 4 appearances for MidAmerica Nazarene
  • Nathan Seider has logged major minutes for William Jewell
  • Derek O’Grady and Alex Linthicum have been playing regularly for Buena Vista University. Alex has a goal and 2 assists and has played in all 10 games. Derek has 6 goals and an assist in 9 games, having missed a game as a result of a concussion

News

As promised, updates will be posted here from time to time.  This year's first update ---

 Alex Linthicum has enrolled Buena Vista University in  Storm Lake, IA, joining Derek O'Grady on a very youg team.  The Beavers will have 13 freshman on a team of 21.  Johnson County, Kansas will be well represented with 6 players on the team, 5 of them freshman.

College Commitments

Every player on the team deserves hearty congratulations and all the back slaps and "attaboys" we can give them. Every player on the team that wants to play college soccer is getting the opportunity. Not only are the guys good soccer players but, to a man, the team has excellent students. It goes to show that the combination of soccer skill, academics and community service coelesce to make these young men highly sought after players. They should all be very proud of their achievements. The college choices made are, in alphabetical order:

Nick Alexander - Trinity University (San Antonio, TX); the "Tigers"

Zach England - Wartburg College (Waverly, IA); the "Knights"

Alex Linthicum - Buena Vista University (Storm Lake, IA); the "Beavers"

Spenser Nash - Baker University (Baldwin City, KS); the "Wildcats"

Matt Newman - New York University (New York, NY); the "Violets"

Derek O'Grady - Buena Vista University (Storm Lake, IA); the "Beavers"

Reed Parker - Dominican University (River Forest, IL); the "Stars"

Matt Prather - Drake University (Des Moines, IA); the "Bulldogs"

Gordon Reiz - Trinity University (San Antonio, TX); the "Tigers"

Jared Robinson - MidAmerica Nazarene University (Olathe, KS); the "Pioneers"

Nathan Seider - William Jewell College (Liberty, MO); the "Cardinals"

Dave Sievers - Blue River Community College (Independence, MO); the "Trailblazers"

Trent Spindler - Emory University (Atlanta, GA); the "Eagles"

Devin Springer - North Central College (Naperville, IL); the "Cardinals"

 

Brendan Copelend, Josh Ogren and Gyer Vierthaler are all juniors and will undoubtedly make some coaches very happy this time next year. Mason Crouse and Matt Cunard both decided to end their formal soccer careers.
