Katy Rebels Girls Basketball Association: Welcome

UPDATED INFORMATION AS OF 2/12/2012:

The 2012 Katy Rebel Developmental Training Academy will be offered to Katy ISD girls  in grades 2-7.   Any KISD girl may participate.   2012 Katy Rebel players in grades 2-7 may also utilize these training sessions as supplements to their own team practices.  The program fees are the same for all attendees.

Girls who attend the Developmental Training Academy will participate in one or two weekly two hour training sessions with the top skill development coaches in the Katy Rebel program (Matejowsky, Morris and Howe are the primary instructors in this program).  Coaches from some Katy ISD High Schools may also make guest appearances to meet the Training Academy participants and teach them a few age appropriate skills and drills that are used at their High Schools.

Every training session will include skill development work on:

•  ball handling
•  shooting
•  playing defense
•  passing
• rebounding
• offensive footwork and movement
• agility, quickness, coordination, strength, flexibility
• 3 v 3 games to utilize new skills in live game situations

The objective of the Program is to help each player improve her current skill set, learn more about the game of basketball, have fun, and prepare her for next season's recreation league (make the A team), junior high school basketball tryouts or making a Katy Rebel team.  EVERY 2011 Katy Rebel player made her draft league recreation team or junior high school A or B teams this season.  

Program Fees:    $250 for all 10 training sessions paid in full online before Session 1.

                         $30 per training session paid at the gym or online as player attends.    

Use the "Add To Cart" button below to make payment through PayPal using a credit or debit card.  You do not need a PayPal account to utilize this online payment option.  Print a copy of your receipt and bring it with you to the first training session the player attends.

Verification of attendance in Katy ISD schools will be conducted for all participants.  Girls in districts outside of Katy ISD may not participate in the Developmental Training Academy due to Facility restrictions by the School District.  For those girls outside of Katy ISD, we recommend attending training sessions with John Herndon "CH".  His contact information and website are listed under the "Recommended Trainers" link to the left.  Elementary players may attend the Middle School Training sessions as long as their attention span will allow them to work on skill development throughout the 1.5 hour training session.

Tryouts for 2nd-5th Graders  has passed.    All spots for the 3rd & 5th grade teams have been filled.  There are still a few spots open for the 4th grade team.   If interested in trying out, call 281-831-7780.

Final Day of Tryouts for 6th-12th Graders will be held on February 19, 2012.   Cinco Ranch Junior High.   23420 Cinco Ranch Boulevard   Katy, Tx.  77494.       6th & 7th graders will tryout from 1pm to 4pm both days.     8th grade and High School will tryout from 4pm to 7pm both days.  Registration/Check -In begins at 12:40pm for 6 & 7 graders and 3:40pm for 8-12 grades.   If your player missed the first day of tryouts on February 12th, they may still attend tryouts on the 19th.

Our tryout location will NOT change on February 19th.  Many different AAU organizations are holding tryouts in the Katy area this same weekend.  Make sure you come to Cinco Ranch Junior High on Cinco Ranch Blvd near Grand Parkway/Hwy 99 to tryout for the Katy Rebels.

All documents MUST be submitted at registration.

All tryouts are closed to anyone other than Katy Rebel coaches and appropriate grade level players trying out for our teams. Once tryouts begin, all gyms will be closed to spectators.    Please make plans to check in your player, submit all documents, then return at the end of their tryout session.   Areas parents can go during tryouts:  Katy Mills Mall, La Centerra (across the street from tryouts), the Shopping Center at Westpark Toll Road and Grand Parkway, Cinemark Theartres at I-10/Grand Parkway, plus more. 

You must attend you current grade level tryout sessions unless given permission from the administration prior to tryouts.  Play-ups are not common with the Katy Rebels since we have different skill level teams from 5th-8th grades.  All High School girls (9th-12th) compete for teams based upon skill level first and not grade level.  If the coaching staff feels a player in grades 3-8 would be best served by playing above her current grade level, then the administration will discuss this move with the parents after the first tryout session. 

Forms needed from all players to attend tryouts:   2012 Tryout Form, Birth Certificate copy, Report Card copy (NOT a progress report or an online grade report.....MUST have school letterhead and grade level visible).   A $25 tryout fee will be collected for each player. NO scholarships for tryouts.  Players are welcome from any school district.  All 2011 Katy Rebel players will also need to supply all forms listed above.  Previous copies of birth certificates will NOT be used in the 2012 season.   DO NOT INCLUDE SOCIAL SECURITY CARD INFORMATION. 

EVERY PLAYER NEEDS TO BRING THEIR OWN BASKETBALL TO TRYOUTS....28.5 INCH GIRL'S BALL. Do NOT wear your basketball shoes to tryouts.....change into basketball shoes once inside the gym.

Season = March thru July for most teams.  Practices begin the first full week in March.  No practices during KISD Spring Break.  Tournaments begin in late March or early April for most teams.  Practice twice per week for 2-3 hours each.  Locations/Days/Times TBD. 

 Players who wish to pay their Tryout Fee by credit/debit card need to use the button below before 9am on the first day of tryouts.   Only cash and checks will be accepted at the gym.  NO credit/debit cards will be accepted after 9am on the first day of tryouts.  A list of those players who have paid online will be at the check-in table.  Print a copy of your payment receipt and staple it to the tryout form.   When paying online, make sure to include the full name of each player you are paying for.  You may pay for more than one player with a single transaction.  You do NOT need a paypal account to make an online payment.  Click on the statement  "Don't Have A PayPal Account?" to pay with the listed credit cards.

NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH MEMORIAL HERMANN SPORTS MEDICINE

The Katy Rebels and Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine have entered into a partnership that provides many wonderful benefits to the players in our Katy Rebel organization for the 2012 season and beyond.

Included benefits for the 2012 season, at no charge to our Katy Rebel players, are:

• A standing injury evaluation clinic one day per week during our season. 
• Year round access to an athletic trainer hotline for parents and coaches.
• Athletic trainer coverage at Prime Time Nationals in July 2012.
• ImPACT Testing for all players in Grades 6-12.
• ACL injury prevention education and exercises for Katy Rebel coaches.
• Coach Clinic for education on stretching, injury prevention, first aid, etc.
• General injury prevention and athlete welfare education for Katy Rebel parents.
• Donation to the Katy Rebel General Scholarship Fund.

The Katy Rebels are proud to be the only AAU basketball organization in the South Texas area to have a partnership with Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine.  We feel our new partnership offers our athletes the best care possible if injuries occur.  But more importantly, it will help our coaches and parents prepare their athletes for a lifetime of proper care of their bodies as high level athletes.

The Katy Rebels Girls Basketball Association is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that is affiliated with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and oversees the selection and training of AAU/Select basketball teams for girls in grades 2-12 in South Texas.

In accordance with the Internal Revenue Service Code Section 501(c)3, the Katy Rebels Girl’s Basketball Association (KRGBA) is recognized as a non-profit organization as described in sections 509(a)(2).  Donors may deduct contributions to KRGBA as provided in section 170 of the code.  Our Tax ID Number is 80-0313796. 

Your sponsorship/donation helps offset the cost of facility rentals, uniforms, tournament entry fees and team travel expenses. Most important of all, it enables KRGBA to provide scholarships to those girls who demonstrate a need for financial assistance in order to compete at the AAU level.  Our goal is to never turn away a deserving athlete due to a lack of financial means.

Congrats to all our Katy Rebel players!    EVERY 2011 Katy Rebel player in grades 7-12  made her Junior High or High School team this season.  This is the 4th year in a row that we have had such great success during school basketball tryouts.   We have Katy Rebel players on "A" teams and "B" teams in Junior High Schools across the city and surrounding communities.  We also have Katy Rebel players on Freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams all across the city and the surrounding communities.    Chances are good that if you are watching a skilled player during a game, she is a Katy Rebel in the off-season!  We had 158 girls in Grade 2-11 during the 2011 AAU season.  All of these players are positively impacting their school teams or recreation league teams right now!

The Katy Rebels 2017 Elite and 2016 Elite teams are just learning of the loss of OSU Coach Budke and his assistant in a plane crash yesterday.   Both teams had the opportunity to visit with the OSU coaching staff in 2009 and 2010 when they attended the MAYB National tournaments.   The 2017 Elite team had the opportunity to sit behind the OSU bench in 2011 when they played Texas A&M in College Station.   The photo is of some of the girls and Coach Budke following this game.
