Langham Creek defeats Katy 6-0 to close out great Tiger season

In a hard-fought series that show-cased some of the best area, if not national talent at the high school level, Langham Creek pitching ended up carrying the Lobos to a 2-game sweep of the Katy Tigers in the Region III quarter-final match-up on Friday evening.   An overflow crowd witnessed the 2 nationally ranked teams battle to determine who would advance to the State Sweet 16.

Through 3 innings, the game was a pitchers duel between Katy's Carter Jurica and Langham Creek's Corey Maines, with both pitchers facing just over the minimum, but it was the Lobos who broke on top in the 4th inning with 3 unearned runs, and then added 3 more runs in the final 3 innings to defeat the Tigers 6-0.   Jurica went the first 5+ innings, then was relieved by Keifer Nuncio in the 5th.  The duo struck out 9 Lobos, scattering 7 hits, while Maines went the complete game for Langham, only giving up 3 hits and striking out 2 to gain the victory.   Jurica, Andrew Stumph, and Kyle Canales collected the only Tiger hits.

Finishing this season with a 32-5 record, coupled with last year's 37 wins, makes this senior class the winningest 2-year class in Tiger history.   The loss concludes a great season for 15 seniors, many who will move on to play at the next level.  Our sincere thanks and appreciation goes out to these fine young men and their parents who gave of themselves for these past 4 years and created memories for all of us that will not soon be forgotten.

Our 2007 seniors are :
1 - Josh Tovar
2 - Bret Atwood
3 - Kyle Canales
4 - Carter Jurica
5 - Michael Fuda
7 - Pat Gorman
8 - Michael Sauceda
9 - Ryan Nietsche
11 - Tim Yager
12 - Andrew Dresden
13 - Robby Bishop
14 - Daniel Schram
16 - Zac Murray
23 - Aaron Daab
25 - Nick Pepitone

Katy sweeps Cy Ridge in 2 games on Friday Night

The Katy Tigers swept by the Cy Ridge Rams in 2 straight games on Friday evening at Katy High School to win the Bi-District round of the 2007 play-offs.   The Tigers won the first with another sterling shut-out pitching performance by Aaron Daab, as he only gave up one hit and struck out 7 in going the distance as Katy won 5-0.   In the second game, Keifer Nuncio got the win on the hill with Carter Jurica getting the save as Katy won 7-4.

The 2 victories extend Katy's winning streak to 23 consecutive games, and improves their overall record to 31-3.

The wins advance the Tigers into the Area round of play-offs against the winner of the Stratford / Lamar series next weekend.

The Katy Tigers defeated Katy Taylor 18-4 to capture the 2007 Kenny Crafton Tournament and defend their title as Champions.  Carter Jurica got the victory in the title game.

The tournament provided a showcase for Tiger pitching and hitting as the Tigers outscored their opponents 74-7 as they completely dominated the opposition.
Keifer Nuncio started the Tigers off versus Pasadena Memorial as he came within one out of a perfect game before giving up a hit in the 5th inning to capture the victory.

A trio of Katy pitchers defeated Waltrip on Friday night, as Andrew Dresden, Pat Gorman, and Andrew Stumph pitched the 9-3 victory, with Gorman collecting the win and Stumph getting the save.

Then in the championship game, Jurica combined with Gorman to pitch the Tigers to the title over Katy Taylor 18-4, with Jurica getting the win.
