The UNOFFICIAL Kannapolis Football Website, WONDERland, USA.
This site is dedicated to the coaches, players, and fans, who over the years, have made WONDER Football what it is today.
Wonder Football is a Tradition for my Wife and I. I can honestly say that we haven’t missed more than 5 or 6 games in 47 years. We really look forward to Friday nights in the Fall and sitting on the Hill. I graduated in 1963, my Wife in 1966. We have 3 sons, two that graduated in 1987 and 1989, and 1 who graduated in 2004.
A.L. Brown, was opened, in 1952. This made the old high school, know as Cannon High, the Junior High, which held the 8th and 9th grades. I personally went to Centerview Elementary School for 6 yrs., then to Aycock, which held all the 7th grades at that time, on to Cannon Junior High for 8th and 9th grades, then to A.L. Brown High School for grades 10-12, as I said, graduating in 1963. Centerview has been long gone, it was closed in June 1960 and burned to the ground 12 years later in the spring of 1972. Cannon Jr. High burned down too. I don’t remember the year but I got over there about the time they got it put out. It was so cold the fireman had trouble keeping the water from freezing. Lot of things to remember about the old days.
Since that time, many new elementary schools have opened, along with
new 2005 Kannapolis Middle School. Now it’s kindergarten, elementary school, Kannapolis Intermediate School( (which will have the 5th and 6th grades) and the new middle school (7th and 8th grades), with the High School having the 9th through the 12th. Time sure does change things, but WONDER Football will go on and on!
BTW, A.L. Brown turns 57 yrs. old as of the year 2009. Take a Tour in the History section, then go through the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, etc. Take a look in the photo albums with lot's of photos. Look at how Kannapolis Memorial Stadium came about. Lot's of other information that might interest you.
Also, I offer my apologies to the hundreds of people left out. If you will e-mail me with information, I will try to include it. I personally know that each and everyone is important to the team. GOD Bless All You WONDERS!!!!
